January 26th, 2018 5-Night Bahamian on Magic

My Gold Castaway Club check-in window opened at midnight. I've been watching the baseball game, so why not check in ...

Other than the regular family cabanas, I didn't see anything sold out. All of the port arrival times are available at this time (first one for Miami is 11am). They even currently have one Serenity Bay Cabana (adults only) and one Grand Family Cabana (the big one that is ~$1000 for 10 people). I doubt those will survive the day tomorrow, but you never know.

Thank you so much adamki! I was going to to ask if anyone had the update today. I didn't stay up to watch the entire game but looks like it would have been worth it, an exciting postseason so far.

So Happy Gold Day! 15 days until Silver Day, 30 days until open check in, and 105 days until we sail! Hoping those 11:00 times stay open. Come on Gold people, you deserve a good rest and a casual stroll to the port, stick us Silvers with the early PATs ;) And want to remind everyone to keep an eye out for cabanas opening up in the last 3 months. Because of the way DCL works (reserve now, pay later) people will snatch them up right away and then decide if they really want it. One thing I will say RCCL does better IMO, they make you pay for things up front. You can still cancel for a full refund up to a few days before sail date, but it cuts down on people reserving a $700 cabana "just in case". A small gripe though, point is remember to check back often and consider getting on a wait list at guest services when you board if you are still unable to snag one. People might decide to give up their cabana if the weather doesn't look great, or they hit the casino in Nassau and suddenly can't afford it, or any other reason. If DCL has someone else to rent the cabana to then the original person can get out of the payment, so really you are doing them a favor!

No problem. I'll keep an eye out for PAT changes as Silver Day approaches. As predicted, the Grand Cabana is gone now, but Serenity Bay #4 is still available.

So my check-in window opened a few weeks ago and I started it but then got stuck:).

For anyone that has done this cruise before, how much money did you allow to each person? What do you use the money for?

Sorry! Forgot to add this!

For anybody that has been in concierge before, do you automatically get the earliest check-in?

Thank you all for being so patient with all my questions! You have all been so helpful! Its just that this is our 1st cruise and we have no idea what to do:)

Yes, you get to 'priority board' as concierge guests.

See the DCL description of your stateroom for all the concierge amenities: https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/ships/dream/staterooms-concierge/

Yep, Concierge and Platinum essentially have open boarding all day. When you arrive go to the concierge check in desk, get your papers, and they should have a concierge waiting area set up for you if boarding hasn't begun. Once boarding begins concierge will be called first, then platinum, then the boarding groups. If you arrive after boarding begins you check in and basically head straight to the ship.

104 days!!!

Is anyone interested in a "cabana share"? We were able to reserve cabana #7 for Castaway Cay.......but we are now thinking that maybe a "cabana share" with another family may be more fun - would allow our kids to have other kids to hang-out with and would allow others to use the cabana as we will come/go a bit (doing 5K, snorkeling, etc.) Is there anyone interested in a "share"? If so message me and we can discuss :)

Thanks!

So I am trying to get the check-in out of the way and was wondering something (I know, what a surprise:)). For anyone that has done a Disney Cruise before, how much money do you usually give to each person? What do you use the money for?

Spend varies greatly. I think we're pretty middle of the road. Some people spend A LOT more than us, others spend almost nothing extra other than tips.

Here's our break-down.

For my son:
  • We allocate souvenir money to him prior to the cruise, this is money that he gets to spend as he chooses.
    • Some to spend on the ship (maybe for a toy and some pins) = $40
    • He might kick in some of his spending money too
    • some to spend at the ports (depends on the ports, usually $5-10 x number of ports) = $30
  • We will usually buy him a shirt or two (port or ship) so maybe $50
  • He doesn't buy the smoothies, but I see your kids are a bit older, so that may come into play for you.
I'll round that up to $100 in kid spend.

Side note: The ship's gift shops accept Disney gift cards, so if grandparents or anyone wants to gift the kids some souvenir money in cards, they can spend those directly in the shops. Everywhere else on the ship, you have to charge to the room using your 'Key to the World' card.

For adults we generally plan on the following:
  • Palo brunch- $30 per person = $60 + tip = $90
  • Specialty coffee - Is actually pretty reasonable on the ship so between the two of us it will be less than $10/day including tips = $50
  • Alcohol - We're not big drinkers so maybe $20/day = $100 for the cruise x 2 = $200
  • On ship souvenirs - on our last cruise we didn't buy anything (the merchandise doesn't change that much) but I plan on buying a shirt and maybe a christmas ornament, so that's about $100 per person = $200
  • Port souvenirs - I don't see us buying much on this cruise, maybe an ornament from Key West. Super conservative guess is $30
  • Tastings - I like to do a tasting (Whiskey, Mixology, Tequila, etc), that's only $20
  • Popcorn - For the shows/movies for the whole family $20
Total for the adults is $580

Excursions are going to vary by what you want to do, but you'll know before hand how much that costs. Remember to factor in tips for your guides, bring cash for that.

Then we plan for our next sailing:
  • OBB - We book a placeholder on board to get a discount on our next sailing $250 x 2 = $500
    • x2 because we usually buy two to encourage someone else to come with us

Then there's tips @ $12/person/night = $36 x 5 = $180 we usually increase the tips for the Servers and the room host, it depends on the level of service.

So, rounding up again, the total is in the range of $1000 plus excursions, if any and then the $500 OBB towards our next vacation.

So what you are saying is that you give permission to everyone to spend money off of the "Key to the World card"?

Yes, but you can choose who to give charging permission. My son hasn't had that ability yet. I'm not sure if there's a way to limit the amount a child can charge.

You can set those permission up right now if you log into your reservation and go into the update Check-In section. You should see everyone in your party and check boxes for weather or not they can charge on their card.

@mimi2ty Hello, can I join the fish extender group?
@Roschewski---Yes, absolutely. You can private message me after you have 10 messages (8 more to go!) or post info on here-.
Please send me name of each person participating, title (mom, dad, daughter, son), age (if you desire), cabin number and if you want to include any fun information (fav. character etc)
My son works for the entertainment dept at Hershey Park in PA so if anyone has a favorite Hershey item please let me know that too-that will just be for my use :) and it will be straight from Chocolate World!

I will be going with my husband and DD5. It is our first Disney Cruise. We wavered a lot between this and another Disneyland trip as DD5 had her heart set on going to DLR again.
Welcome aboard! If this is your first cruise, I'm sure your daughter will have a blast.

Thank you! DH and I did go on a South Caribbean cruise with Princess for our Honeymoon 7 years ago. This cruise seems drastically different - between the cruise line, itinerary, and having a kid this go 'round, I feel like a total newbie!

Welcome to the group poseys and Roschewski!

DCL will be a bit different from Princess I'm sure, but you will get the hang of it. CM's are as good or better on the ships than at Disneyland (though no Maynard unfortunately, lol) so if you ever need help finding anything or any questions ask them. Your DD will have a fantastic time, she might have her heart set on DLR but I bet once she sees the ship she will want to stay forever. Our DD7 is very excited, maybe they will meet in the kids club. And on top of that, it really is a fantastic line for adults too. But you are part of Disboards so clearly you aren't afraid to let your Disney flag fly ;) Other lines are great, we have others scheduled for the next couple of years, but there is nothing quite like a Disney Cruise.

Which reminds me, as of 1:00 AM EDT today, it is 99 days until this ship sails!!! Double digits!
