June 2019 Check In

Bright Suns everyone

Day 14 of the reservation system for anyone wishing to visit Batuu.

That means there is just 10 days left before Star Wars Galaxy Edge will be open to everyone.

I'm pretty sure our reservation day is going to be packed! I received an email letting me know we could add people to our existing SGE reservation. Up to 4 people! Per reservation. I called and was told that they are increasing crowds the final weekend to better prepare themselves for the post reservation crowds. I totally get it, but dang I wish we had gone earlier in the reservation period!!

Edited to add that we'll be there 6/21 at 8am.

I figured that would happen as I got that same email. I certainly understand why they want to do that, but it's definitely a bummer for me that those with earlier reservations will get a less crowded experience. They could've just allowed the same amount of people into the land on June 24th and then started the queue when it reached the reservation capacity, and then gradually increased the amount of people who could be in the land before the queue system started.

I'm taking my family to visit Batuu on 6/23. We're staying at the HOJO for the night of 6/22 since we have an 8AM reservation and everyone is saying to be there by 6. Anyway, I'm surprising my oldest son for his birthday. We live about 2 hours away. Any ideas on how to surprise him? I want to just throw the kids in the car and drive down there, but I feel like there needs to be some sort of huge reveal since my son will probably figure it out when we get to the hotel.

Just wanted to say thank you to all for the help in planning for this trip. Yesterday (June 15th), arrived there around 5:30am and found at least 20-30 people already in line at the Disneyland gate. Waited until 6am to be let into the park. Checking in was smooth at Launch Bay and waited in Tomorrowland by galactic grill until 7am to be escorted to Fantasyland by Red Rose Tavern. We were told that we can enjoy Extra Magic Hour, but none of us budge. Around 7:50am, they let us into Frontierland to the SWGE entrance and was scanning our wristbands right away. Afterwards, it was a mad dash to the cantina.

There were cast members there that were telling us which direction to go to Savi’s and to Oga’s cantina. My intention is to go to cantina, so I went directly right. Thanks to the message board, I followed the path, going to the right and following the lady with the flag. Definitely make a hard right because they were trying to create an organized path to the cantina (tape already in place to form the line). We initially got told to only have one person represent the group but as we got closer, they said to have everybody in your party be with you. We were guaranteed to be part of the first group to go in which got us so excited. We didn’t get to do Savi’s and the droid building but was able to enjoy all the shops and rode the millennium falcon twice with almost walk-on during the 3rd hour.

Thank you again 🙏🙂👍🏻

Only 30 minutes until we get to Anaheim and reservations for tomorrow. How early would you recommend arriving for a 8am slot. I don't want to build a lightsaber and still up in the air on if the Cantina is worth it for us.

The general recommendation has been to arrive at the gates around 6am if you want to do Oga's or build a lightsaber. The poster above you did that and was able to make it into the first group at the cantina.

Day 18 of the reservation system for anyone wishing to visit Batuu

We are almost at the end of the reservation system. This day next week, Monday 24 June will be the first day of general opening.

Bright Suns everyone

Day 19 of the reservation system for anyone wishing to visit Batuu. After today there is only 5 days left of the reservation system.

Just a reminder for any preparing a visit to Batuu

The Star Wars Universe is not all a shiney futuristic, metallic world. Some planets like Coruscant and Naboo are, while others are snow covered and others are forests. In simple terms, the Star Wars universe planets take inspiration from various countries on earth.

Batuu is called Galaxys Edge, meaning it is a trading outpost at the edge of the Galaxy. It is a new planet, with its own story and characters in the style of the dusty Moroccan Tatooine.

The timeline of the land is AFTER the original trilogy and AFTER the second film of the new trilogy, The Last Jedi. This means that Darth Vadar, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Yoda are dead. You will not see them in Batuu.

Star Wars Galaxys Edge is a new type of theme park experience. It is very different to Fantasyland. It is a complete immersive experience which uses technology in the rides and in the land with smart phones and Apps to give guests an very unique experience. The CM's are more characters than CM's. Just as you would with Aerial or Tiana, interactions, and language is land specific. You would not expect Aerial or Tiana to talk out of character, so dont expect the CM's in Batuu to talk out of character.

Again this is not Fantasyland, Batuu is a much more adult themed land. Children are of course welcome and many enjoy their time in Batuu just as much as the adults. HOWEVER, the price and quality of some of the merchandise, and price and type of food and drinks are more for adults than children. Many of the higher priced items are not toys and are not meant for children.

A big thanks to all who posted information about Galaxys Edge we had our reservation on Monday (June 17) and we had a fantastic time. Little tidbits of information about staying to the right for Ogas for the 8am helped us get in almost right away. Hope you all had a great trip!

But, do not be afraid! CMs on Batuu are kind. If you make it clear that you are clueless and in need of assistance, they will communicate with you clearly in a way you can understand. :) Just relax and enjoy the new land for what it is -- a very fun place full of Disney wonder! As with any other land at DLR, Batuu is full of as much magic as I am willing to see. If some people refuse to see it, that doesn't mean the magic isn't there. For those getting ready to visit this week, have a great time!
