Loaned Toll Transponder . . .

Just wondering how this has worked from anyone using it (especially Alamo renters!) We would love to try this for our trip in February and always rent from Alamo.

We used this with Alamo in May (see my post above) and we are currently using it now again with Alamo. Super seamless process. No charges for tolls at all from Alamo.

p.s. ALAMO cars (and Enterprise and National and most other large rental companies) do NOT have a physical transponder in their cars.

These cars are 'fleet registered' ....

The way the system works, there is a priority ordered set of steps that happens for processing the toll

in the greater Orlando area when you drive thru an electronic 'gate':

1. System tries to read a transponder .. if found, assign the toll and DONE .... if not:

2. TAG is read and the database of registered TAGs is checked. If the TAG is found to be associated with a personal account the toll is assigned and DONE:
(this is why you want to put your TAG info - even a rental's - in the system ... it is a backup for cases when your transponder might not be read correctly)

3. If not found in a personal account, the FLEET database is checked next and if found the toll is assigned to the FLEET owner (ALAMO) this is when you would be 'opt in' to using their service for the next 24 hours, at a fee of course. (most rentals are fleet registered and the rental company uses a third party company to connect your contract to the tolls incurred and collect the $) (NOTE: the 24hr 'opt in' is an ALAMO/Nat/Ent thing ... different rental companies may require you pre 'opt in' for the entire rental period {$$$} see https://www.sunpass.com/en/tolls/rentalVehicles.shtml)

4. If all this fails, the system IN ORLANDO will process a toll violation using the TAG info.

This system differs in the greater MIAMI area where there is NO cash payment option (Orlando usually has a cash lane). Here no 'violation' is processed but rather a monthly bill will be sent using the TAG info (plus a service charge). Failure to pay this bill can result in a violation.
