Me (the 29-year old)

I woke up and packed up for a trip back to Columbus later in the day. First, I had to ride some more rides at Cedar Point. I missed the Wildcat and Power Tower yesterday. I planned on riding those and possibly watching some shows. I wore my Florida Coaster Club t-shirt again. With all the attention I got yesterday, maybe I can find some single women!

I headed down to the breakfast buffet in the Coffee Shop. I believe it costs $7.95. TGI Friday’s had one for $8.95. Eggs are eggs, so I might as well do the cheaper one. The selection at the Coffee Shop wasn’t large. There were eggs, pancakes, French toast, sausage, bacon, bagels, and pastries. I’m used to the buffets in Orlando that advertise over 80 selections. Not that I would eat all 80 selections, but the selection at the Coffee Shop seemed rather paltry.

The park was opening at 9:00 am and it was around 8:30, so I hung around the lobby for a bit and watched people wander back and forth. I was planning on doing the Express Checkout, which means that I put my keys into the Express Checkout box. I bought some postcards in the gift shop. One man was buying ponchos. It was cloudy, but I didn’t think it would rain.

I headed to the entrance at around 8:45 and it started raining. I had to hide under the roof at the arcade by the putt-putt golf course. I waited for the rain to die down a bit. I walked into the park and as I passed by Power Tower, the rain just hosed down. I hid under the Power Station roof and watched the rain. After a few minutes, I broke down and bought a poncho. The price wasn’t bad – it was $3.99 – and was pretty thick. It wasn’t just a garbage bag with a hood!

I headed to Millennium Force and it was drizzling. The line for Millennium Force was so short that I walked right on! I was quite surprised! As I rode the coaster, drizzling rain came down. It wasn’t bad as we went up the lift hill, but when we came down, the rain stung on my face! Imagine being hit by tiny drops of water at 93 mph. I wasn’t screaming because I was scared, it was because the rain stung! I couldn’t pull my hood up because it ripped somehow. I had to keep my eyes closed because the rain stung so badly. The person who sat beside me said it was raining harder earlier and hurt even more!

Since the line was so short, I rode it again and I walked right on! The rain still drizzled and stung my face. The rain stopped during the third ride. I could now open my eyes and see where I was going. I rode Millennium Force two more times and now the wait was about 10 minutes. It drizzled again and it was time for pain again.

That was enough Millennium Force for me. It stopped raining and I threw away my poncho. I thought that I knew when it was going to rain, but in Ohio, I couldn’t feel it in my bones. I was in a foreign land that I was not used to.

I wanted to ride the Wildcat, but it was closed. I headed to Power Tower for a ride. Power Tower has two sides you can choose. One drops you 240 feet in the air and another shoots you up 240 feet. The one that shoots you up seemed a lot like Dr. Doom’s Fearfall at Islands of Adventure, which I have been on a lot. I decided to try the side that drops you.

The wait was about 15 minutes. During the wait, I could watch people being shot up and down. I could also hear the accompanying screams. Finally, it was my turn to ride. I didn’t find the drop exciting or scary. The ride took me up 240 feet and went as fast as an elevator. I could look down and I knew I would drop, but I didn’t know when. The initial second of drop is surprising, but the rest is just a drop. Ho-hum!

I tried the side that shot you up. I waited around 15 minutes for this side. I liked this side better. The initial shot up really took me by surprise. Most people look forward or at their friends. They don’t look up to see how far you’re going up. They’re jabbering away and – pow – they fly up! It’s a short, but exciting, ride!

Mantis and Raptor were running about 45 minute waits. Wildcat was still closed. I headed to the Cedar Point Cinema for the showing of Michael Jordan to the Max. It was included with my park admission and it beats paying $5 at an IMAX theater to see it. I didn’t really find the film all that interesting. The Michael Jordan shots didn’t seem to work the best on IMAX. The only one that really was amazing was the bullet time shot at the opening. The only real insight I got into Michael Jordan was during his baseball phase. Even though people were pooh-poohing him for doing baseball, he still got up and practiced the longest. If only we could all learn to do that…

I was thinking of seeing the diving show next, but it sounded kind of boring. I think it would have been more fun if I could bring an air horn. As the diver was going into his dive moves, I could blow the air horn to see if I could mess him up. If I did, I could laugh and high-five the people around me! Then security would escort me out of the park for sure!

I decided that I could make it to Paramount King’s Island. It was a four-hour drive and I would arrive in time for twilight admission. I really wanted to ride Beast and Son of Beast, regardless of the wait.
