Even though my trip was only three days in the parks, plus some time in downtown Disney, it was a major project, so it’s going to take me a few posts to do this report.
First off, I want to set the stage, and give a little backstory. I currently live in San Antonio, Texas with Shelley, my wife of 21+ years, with our 19 year old son Austin, and our 7 year old autistic son, David. I also have a 25 year old daughter, Maddie, who lives in Reno, Nevada.
Over the years, I’ve made my way around Disney. I grew up in Redding California, so I went to Disneyland a few times growing up my first trip was probably 1976, and my last trip there was 1996. I spent 20 years in the Air Force, and because of that I was able to visit Tokyo Disneyland twice, once in 1990, and once more in 1992. I spent part of 2004 in Germany, and during that time I did get to the Disneyland park in Paris. In 2003 and 2008 I visited Walt Disney World.
I have always been a fan of Disney, and over the past 10 years or so, I have really been into Mickey Mouse. I own a lot of stuff related to him, and in 2014 I decided to document my collection on a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jermshouseofmouse). At first, I would post a whole bunch of stuff, but eventually, I decided to post once a week, and just share one item. I tried to mix it up, one week, I would show a toy, the next week I might show a t-shirt, and so on. If I shared a t-shirt, I would try to show a clean shot of it by itself, paired off with an “action” shot. Preferably one taken with family, or at a park.
Last August, I shared a picture of a shirt that I bought for my 2008 trip. It was a shirt, that my wife, my 1st son Austin (11 at the time), my daughter Maddie (17 at the time), and I wore on our first day of the trip. The picture was taken in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom. It was more or less the 7th anniversary of the trip when I posted the pic, and I mentioned that. My sister Rachel, who lives in Redding, commented on it, saying that we should all meet up in Disneyland the next summer.
I thought about it, a lot. Shelley and I talked about it, and decided that we needed a vacation, and Disneyland would be perfect. So that evening, I created a Facebook event, and invited my parents, my sister, and my daughter to a trip in July.
