Could use a little help!

We are considering a cruise in July 2021 out of New Orleans and this itinerary sounds pretty interesting. Our biggest concern is that this ship sounds dated. We are not super picky but want to have a fun experience when on board. Has anyone been on this ship lately?

She’s one of the smallest and oldest. Very few bells and whistles. If you need a lot of diversion on board, you will most likely be bored

Thanks, I was afraid of that. To me the diversion is key, it is the whole reason that we cruise vs going to an all-inclusive resort.

I noticed that too. Never been on Majesty, but even if you look at the bars and restaurants, there is very limited choice compared to even some of the other basic ships. If you are ok with that, then it's still a Royal cruise so can't be bad (I'm Royal biased)

We just booked to cruise on the Majesty leaving from New Orleans next January. It's just my husband and I and are okay with fewer bells and whistles since I was more interested in the itinerary. And the price was very reasonable. We have only sailed DCL but am interested in trying Royal. So also interested in any insights/advice on cruising on the Majesty.

Following this thread. We're thinking about going on one out of New Orleans June 2021 for my 40th.

I don't need many bells and whistles at all, but I absolutely hated the Majesty. The casino belches smoke all through the atrium (and is right next door to the Schooner Bar--ugh), lots of bad smells at various places in the theater. Very tired staterooms and few places to relax. Lots of broken chairs on the promenade deck and smoking allowed on the entire starboard side there. Not enough staff at the bars--we constantly had to go to the bar to place and wait for our order. I will say that the food in the dining room was good. Yes, it was very inexpensive, but still not worth it, IMO.

Full disclosure: I've never sailed the Majesty but two of our early cruises were on the Monarch - an exact replica. If all your cruising experience has been on ships built in the past 15 years or so, you will be shocked at the Majesty. It's one thing to say you don't need "bells and whistles" and another to actually sail on a ship devoid of them. I imagine it to be more like a classic ocean liner of yester-year when nobody expected to do anything on a ship except eat, drink and sit on deck in the sun.

What's wrong with eat, drink and sun? Im a simple guy. Give me a drink, Im good to go. Having said that, Im fine with bells and whistles but I wont pay through the nose for them.
