Has anyone heard anything about Gran Destino Tower being without power since 8am this morning?

Someone on Facebook said they are there now and management has no info but is considering moving guests to other accomodations.

DS last week and now Gran Destino. Rather than state my usual about energy storage for backup, I think there are real concerns as WDW expands.

At Grand Destino now. Room on 9th floor has been without power since 7ish Am. We are being offered rooms in the Casitas to stay in while they resolve power issue in the tower. Room will be comped for one night. Public areas of Tower seem to be ok other than the Dahlia lounge which is also without power.

We have an ADR for Toledo for tomorrow night and planned to go to Dahlia beforehand ... Hope it is fixed by then

Toledo was in the half of the hotel that had power and was operating as usual.

Someone staying there is reporting the power just came back on.

Funny thing. Dined at Toledo, went back to dark room to pack clothes and essentials to move to a Casitas room at around 10pm. Stood on line to get key, got key, walked to Casitas 2 and found room. Key didn't work, walk back to lobby in Tower, and was told power was back on in room at 11:30.

We were there when the power went out. What is so disturbing is that no one knew what was going on. No sort of communication. The security doors closed & everyone thought they were locked, meaning no access out of the hallway or into the elevators. But who in their right mind would get on an elevator during a power outage anyway?? Certainly not me! We eventually did discover that you could open the security doors & get out of the hallway to the stairs or elevators.
We met many others who were confused by what was going on.
We walked from the ninth floor up to the fifteenth floor lounge- pant, pant! I had previously texted the concierge number given us to call for problems, etc but received no answer concerning the blackout until 3 hours later, after we had checked out. I’m extremely claustrophobic & this whole incident disturbed me greatly. I accidentally became hysterical when asking a club level CM about the safety of the elevators. She ended up escorting me on the elevator back down to our floor, which was appreciated so very much. But, as lovely as the tower is, my personal experience was pretty much ruined by the unexpected turn of events.

I’m not sure what communication could be had when an unexpected power outage occurs. It’s not like they can call the rooms without power. Maybe an alert on MDE? People won’t always check that either though.

I feel like they could have at least sent a mass text to the main person on the reservation letting them know what was going on. Surprised they don't have a plan for situations like that.

That’s not necessarily something you can do either. With international guests they may not have an international plan to receive those texts. I’m sure they have plans in place but this is a brand new building so I’m guessing kinks are still being worked out.

A voip or PBX phone system should have battery backup to keep running without power.

I guess my point is it's almost impossible to reach everyone. Yes Disney probably could have done better in terms of communication but in an unexpected situation like this there will always be hiccups. Disney is typically pretty good communicating planned downtime.
