November 2019 - Girls Trippin’ Again! - Completed 3-8-20!

11/10

Today was my birthday... and we woke up to another glorious morning at the Yacht Club, where we just couldn’t get enough of this view...

F58D1602-054B-4DFD-9A66-1FC482981903.jpeg

It just never gets old. This morning, we did a bit of lazing around and then wandered through the Yacht and Beach Club lobby shops, where I bought some adorable holiday PJ’s as a birthday gift to myself. We then headed to our first destination of the day, which of course was Epcot! This time we headed left when we hit the World Showcase and came across these adorable teapots in the UK pavilion...

12002B53-E994-4AAC-BAA3-722D905434D2.jpeg

So cute! We didn’t linger long though, because niece had a hankering for something she saw in the F&W booklet...

0F1A5E2C-02F8-48FD-A249-B38B7C40B245.jpeg

A Barbecue Bloody Mary with Smoked Garlic Sausage and House-made Pickle Skewer served with a Mustard and Barbecue Rub Rim From Refreshment Port! Holy cow, that sausage was awesome, and the sweet rub on the rim was a perfect offset to the spicy drink. I’m not a huge Bloody Mary fan, but this was really good.

Next up, we headed toward Future World and stopped for some dessert to start our foodie journey... after all, it was my birthday! We split not one, but two of my favorites...

A7BD469A-19E6-4741-964D-DC73EBFA1177.jpeg

Ah, yes... a new favorite, the Maple Bourbon Cheesecake with Maple Bourbon Cream, Caramel and Pecan Crunch from the Cheese Studio, and an old favorite, the Liquid Nitro Chocolate-Almond Truffle with Warm Whiskey-Caramel from the Chocolate Studio.

That cheesecake has surpassed the chocolate dish as my new favorite, although I still do love the chocolate one. This time, the chocolate one was more melted than usual so the texture was different; normally it’s almost like an ice cream and this time it was more like mousse... but still delicious!

After all that sweet, we needed to go with some savory, so we headed to...

2C3FDDD9-8515-4A90-9378-B1582136D672.jpeg

Flavors from Fire! This is a great booth... a little out of the way down in Future World, but well worth the walk to get these babies...

F419E0CE-7157-48EF-9AB4-0D21141DDB42.jpeg

The Smoked Corned Beef with Crispy Potatoes, Cheese Curds, Pickled Onions and Beer-Cheese Fondue and the Steakhouse Blended Burger: Blended Beef and Mushroom Slider with Brie Cheese Fondue, Arugula, and a Truffle and Blue Cheese Potato Chip on a Brioche Bun.

That corned beef dish might just be my favorite savory dish of the festival... salty, crunchy, and creamy all at once... a perfectly balanced dish. It’s also huge and great to split. We were pleasantly surprised by the slider, too! It was savory and had a little bite from the arugula. Overall, we really love this booth!

Next, we wandered to the most crowded food booths that we had hit so far... the three “Eats” booths. It was packed (and hot!) in this area, but we managed to snag a table in partial shade.

D5B36383-4342-43BD-9C51-602E75EA9C6D.jpeg

From Active Eats, we got the Spice-crusted Verlasso® Salmon with UNCLE BEN’S® Quinoa & Ancient Grains Medley, Crushed Avocado and Sherry Vinegar, and an Evolution by Sokol Blosser Pinot Noir. From Earth Eats, we got the IMPOSSIBLE Burger Slider with Wasabi Cream and spicy Asian Slaw on a Sesame Seed Bun.

We loved the salmon... it was cooked perfectly and the avocado really added a special something. The ancient grains underneath were fine - nothing special. I’m not a big fan of Pinot noir, but the others liked it a lot. We were surprised by the yumminess of the burger - you’d never know it wasn’t meat! It had a great texture and the wasabi cream was delicious.

While we still had our table, we figured we’d round out the trip of “Eats” booths, so I hopped over to Coastal Eats and got...

A08C52B3-A687-4225-BA9F-D5334CA96A44.jpeg

The Lump Crab Cake with Napa Cabbage Slaw and Avocado-Lemongrass Cream, the Baked Shrimp and Scallop Scampi Dip with Sourdough Baguette, and the Short’s Brewing Co. Mule Beer.

Now we have had some good crab cakes at previous festivals, but this one unfortunately was not that great. It had a lot of filler in it and just wasn’t very tasty. The dip, on the other hand, was fantastic... warm and gooey with lots of seafood in it... yum! We also really liked the mule beer - it tasted like a good ginger-lime Moscow mule.

Man, that was a lot of food! After all of that, we wandered through World Traders for a bit and then headed back towards the IG. On the way, we stopped and hung out in the Canada pavilion for a while to relax. We found a seat and just enjoyed the sunshine, the atmosphere, and people watching... oh, and these...

E88CE39E-78D6-44AE-BD20-E5BAB19124CF.jpeg

One of our favorites - Moosehead Beer! I know it’s nothing fancy, but we always enjoy it... nice and cold and light. We also finally tried the maple popcorn, which was awesome! I can believe we’ve never had it before, but from now on, it will be a must do. I love the combo of salty and sweet.

After we all gained some energy back we headed to check out something none of us had done before... can you guess what it was?

So what was the thing none of us has tried yet?

423840AA-5C88-4EE9-ADCF-50EBD5948DB9.jpeg

Yep, the Skyliner! We exited Epcot through the IG and jumped in the very short line for a gondola. The loading stations are really impressive!

56F499E8-BE44-45A4-B215-4B194B238AED.jpeg

I love the aliens from Toy Story... oooooh! We waited just a few short minutes and then we were on our way! We got a car without the window wraps and the view was awesome... here’s a look at the construction in the France pavilion. I can’t wait for the Remy ride and the new creperie to be open!

9F6C6188-F5A0-459A-87E2-5828ADF73614.jpeg

Here is the absolutely gorgeous Riviera resort... this was just a few weeks before it opened.

0414D31E-FEC3-4C31-BF36-84191928EF53.jpeg

We kept going to the CBR station, where we switched over to the HS line. It was a quick hop off of our car and onto another... took just a couple of minutes. On our way back up, we had a beautiful view of CBR’s Port Royale and the tippy tops of the yellow Jamaica buildings. We’ve stayed in this section before and loved it, and now it’s so convenient to the Skyliner station... we will be back there someday!

65E207F8-0FD1-4D35-9FD6-BD7399D6CC10.jpeg

All in all, we had a beautiful ride. We only paused for just a couple of minutes once while in air, presumably to load a handicap car on the line, and the ride was super smooth and quiet. The breeze through the vents was lovely. Niece was a little nervous because she’s not a huge fan of heights, but she did ok.

We entered into HS and headed for our first FP... a show that sis-in-law had never seen!

8106A66B-E071-47FA-9083-8A6DDD467AC5.jpeg

Yep, the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. As usual, Indy narrowly escaped the big rolling ball. We were really close to the front and could feel the heat from the explosions...

E78640C8-03D6-4449-80BB-88184272105A.jpeg

We also got a great view of the crew from where we were sitting, which was fun! They were interacting with the audience a lot.

Next up, we had another reservation at Oga’s for a birthday drink! This time, we didn’t get a table, but we got a great view of this guy...

19BC8C7C-4864-4AF5-964E-B1856D7F3C11.jpeg

Sis-in-law wanted to try the Batuu Bits, which were interesting, for sure! There was a mix of different kinds of crunchy bits and the dip was kind of like a salsa, but had a totally different texture. We were glad we tried the dish but it’s not something we’d necessarily have to get again... definitely more of a novelty “while you’re in Galaxy’s Edge” must do.

B31784F7-2B3E-476A-8AC8-9ECA829610BB.jpeg

This time, our drinks weren’t quite as impressive because they were out of the carbon bubbling glasses (we literally got a plastic cup for that drink) and some of the other fancy shaped ones, but they were still tasty! Here we have a Yub Nub, a Jet Juice, a Jedi Mind Trick, and a Bespin Fizz with no bubbling action. Like I said - tasty, but not as fun as the first time. If it were our first time here, I think I’d be a little disappointed.

C65A2B8B-1EE4-4922-B8E6-A6B7F91F15FF.jpeg

While we still had fun this time, we definitely enjoyed our first experience more... having the table was awesome and we had great table mates the first time, plus our server was really into it. This time, we were squeezed in the middle, one of our neighbors didn’t respect our personal space and kept bumping into us, and our server was pretty much absent. Like any place, consistency is always an issue, but we still had fun and we will go back again. I will say that I don’t think it’s a great place for very small children and babies... it is really tight in the standing area and the skinny tables in the middle are at an odd height for little ones. I personally wouldn’t bring in kids any younger than eight or so, but to each his own!

After our drinks at Oga’s, we wandered back out of Galaxy’s Edge to get to our next FP. The area is so cool at night...

120082AD-398F-4FE1-927C-FF62EEDFFEEF.jpeg

Slinky Dog Dash! I had been on it once but the others hadn’t, and everyone loved it. It’s such a great coaster! Just enough thrills and lots of awesome theming. We love the “slinky” bumps the most!

B7963281-BE17-4BC6-9504-45AC95490941.jpeg

Toy Story Land was super crowded so we didn’t hop in line for Alien Swirling Saucers or Toy Story Mania, unfortunately. Instead, we headed back out, and saw Woody all decked out for the holidays...

1E23F082-E11B-4486-AB1A-4BBC7092F92B.jpeg

We were all feeling pretty hungry by this time so we headed over to Sunset Boulevard and hit up Rosie’s All American Cafe for cheeseburgers and fries. Niece got a fried green tomato sandwich and loved it! We all forgot to snap a pic because we were so hungry, but everything was tasty. There’s something about those salty Disney fries... yum.

While we were eating, we listened to the Sunset Seasons Greetings show that runs on a loop on the Tower of Terror and the nearby billboards. It’s a great show, and after we ate, we found a good spot to watch the show in full...

it’s amazing what they can do with projections!

Love this one with Miss Piggy and Kermit!

5ADEEB12-BC9E-49E6-836C-5A0360037F9A.jpeg

The line for ToT was only 30 minutes and we had a little time to kill before Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam!, so we decided to take one last drop on our favorite elevator. Niece freaked out as usual and we laughed at her like always! I love when the doors open and you can see the whole park all lit up.

We wandered to the Chinese Theater and got ourselves a spot to watch JBJB!, which is such a cute show...

CF0A5490-8F29-4218-B0B5-5120A76A756A.jpeg

It‘s got awesome Christmas music and special effects...

6BC2DF52-5DC4-498D-B016-4584998CEE38.jpeg

And the best part? It snows! In fact, it snowed the entire time we walked from the Chinese Theater to the park entrance, and people were singing Christmas songs and just having a great time on the way out. It got me in the holiday spirit, for sure! It was a great ending to a very fun birthday.

We took a beautiful walk back to the hotel to rest up for what we thought was our last day of the trip... but the weather back home in Western New York had other plans for us! Stay tuned to find out what happened!

We woke up to what we thought was our last day with plans for a delicious breakfast, a visit to MK, and one last walk through Epcot before catching our bus to the airport around 7:45 for our 10:55 pm flight home. As we packed up and said goodbye to our beautiful Yacht Club room, we were so glad we had made the choice to stay there. It’s definitely not something we can afford to do every trip, but hopefully we will be back there someday!

We dropped our bags off with Magical Express and hopped on a bus to MK, and from there we walked over to the Contemporary for our 10:30 brunch ressie at The Wave. We checked out the gingerbread display...

45BDF534-497C-453B-8BE5-2183211E6006.jpeg

It’s very cute - certainly not as impressive as the house in the GF, but lots of work nonetheless...

B27FF176-09CB-4EEF-BBAE-EC436F25AD00.jpeg

We headed downstairs for our first ever visit to The Wave, where three of us decided to get the breakfast buffet, and sis-in-law got a frittata. Two of us got mimosas and two got Bloody Mary’s, and all were delicious! The buffet was fantastic - everything was super fresh and they have a couple of specialty dishes that we really enjoyed... the sweet potato pancakes were divine, as well as their cheesy potatoes and cheesy grits. I’m such a carb girl. Here’s a pic of my first plate, yogurt parfait, and delicious drinks, which included a POG juice as well. That stuff is addictive, I tell you.

31618E45-CFC3-4C7E-885E-B74EBAABFF96.jpeg

I highly recommend this for a nice breakfast away from the parks... it’s not a super “themed” place, but the food and service were fantastic, and it’s a relaxing atmosphere.

Next we walked back over to MK (by the way, security is set up towards the Contemporary and went really quick, so we bypassed the long security lines by the bus stops - bonus!) and were met with this glorious sight once inside...

There is nothing like Main Street when it’s all decked out for the holidays. The tree, the garlands, the wreaths, these guys...

96BE3303-98F9-4C4F-8E9C-B9908011440C.jpeg

We happened to walk in just as the first parade was finishing, and got a glimpse of the king and queen of the parks...

Every building is just beautiful!

66373742-19A7-4710-8B8E-F55FAB76BD73.jpeg

Then we turned and headed up Main Street towards our first FP in Fantasyland. On the way, we of course had to take a pic of the iconic Cinderella Castle...

11/11 Continued...

I realize now that I didn’t do a very good job of taking pics this day... I think it’s because throughout the day we were monitoring the weather at home, fielding texts from our family about the weather, etc. Niece was supposed to be at work the next day so she was more concerned than the rest of us that had taken the day off... she’s a teacher and doesn’t get a lot of time off.

As we made our way though Fantasyland, we admired Beast’s castle...

63E57DBD-266B-4DE1-9224-5E0E73F3CA0D.jpeg

...and used our first FP at one of our faves, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! We love that coaster... it always puts me in a great mood. The line for The Little Mermaid was only 20 minutes, so we decided to jump in that once since it’s my niece’s fave movie. The theming in that area is so great!

11ED60BD-AC37-4AC6-98C1-14187594A8E1.jpeg

It was about this time that we got our first text from Southwest saying our 10:55 pm flight was delayed to 11:15... so far, not too bad. Late night, but at least niece could get to work.

Next up was another favorite...

F6D79F0A-ABDB-45F8-83C9-A56894587D70.jpeg

Mickey’s Philharmagic! This one never gets old for any of us. My favorite scene is the magic carpet ride.

Fantasyland was getting really crowded so we moved on to our next FP for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. We checked out the line for Splash Mountain, but it was up to 75 minutes so we decided on a snack instead...

5562DA91-7ECE-4A70-BBDC-1608576FAC81.jpeg

Oh Dole Whip, how I love you. Sis-in-law and I got straight pineapple and sis and niece got pineapple and raspberry swirl... both were so delicious. We got a good giggle over our upside down Donald waffles! By the way, those waffles are really yummy!

We decided to head to the Haunted Mansion, but on the way, we got blocked by the parade... and niece got a great view of her favorite princess...

17DD8A1A-1276-44D6-A4EC-72388FFA0112.jpeg

Sis got a good glimpse of her favorite character, too...

556A3E7E-2A41-4C2B-84A8-C27E0BD7A99A.jpeg

And sis-in-law and I liked these guys...

5A6316DD-9EA5-4A7B-BCE3-F61FB349EAEF.jpeg

And of course, the fire breathing beast!

7B214DA0-1AE0-4BC2-9A84-3E7EAAC37A6E.jpeg

Once the parade had passed, we were a little disappointed to see that Haunted Mansion was temporarily down... so we subbed in the ride my sis hates the most, but the rest of us love!

F623A8C3-0B45-4862-8D54-526C110AEF7A.jpeg

Sis took the time to check in on the weather while the rest of us totally enjoyed our ride through the nations!

11/11 Continued...

After our relaxing ride on it’s a small world, we headed to Tomorrowland for our last FP at Space Mountain. Good thing we had one, too, because the line was 110 minutes! It was getting really crowded all over MK so it was time to go. We took one last wander through the shops on Main Street and then we hopped on the monorail to our last park visit of the trip, Epcot.

We headed straight to Mexico to try a place we hadn’t before - La Cava del Tequila! We didn’t get a table, but could go in to order our drinks... what a cool bar!

FBD76A47-C8ED-4E97-955E-A0452F28A965.jpeg

The drinks are expensive, but they are made individually, and man, are they awesome!

EDD72BF3-37BA-4974-A058-E1CB5C2276CF.jpeg

Here are the margaritas we had: two Avocado, a Wild One (the orange one), and a Strawberry Basil... YUMMMMMMMMMM! These were all fantastic... perfect for a stroll around the Wolrd Showcase.

By this time, it was around 5:30 and the texts were coming fast from our family saying we probably weren’t going to make it home that night because of the wind and snow. Southwest, though, was still just showing our flight as delayed. We decided to hit a few more food booths around the world before catching Magical Express back at the Yacht Club. First up was Spain, where my niece wanted to try what she was affectionately calling “sh*t in a cone”. Ha!

9D652D5E-EFE3-4276-859D-2506EB795875.jpeg

We got a
Charcuterie in a Cone with imported Spanish Meats, Cheeses and Olives with an Herb Vinaigrette and a Spanish-style Paella with Botifarra and Roasted Chicken. That “sh*t in a cone” was delicious! 8-) The herb vinaigrette on it was fabulous... we could have eaten a bunch of those. We also liked the flavor of the Paella, but it was a little dry... no matter, we gobbled it all up.

Next up, a perennial favorite booth... Italy!

058CFD79-90E0-4B72-A26C-8F48778309B3.jpeg

We got our favorite Limoncello Margarita, which was delicious as always - it’s like a jacked up frozen lemonade and it’s super refreshing on a hot day. We also got a Ravioli Carbonara: Parmesan and Pecorino Ravioli, Egg Yolk, Cream, and Bacon. Oh, my... this was wonderful with that rich cream, salty bacon, and yummy pasta. Another winner for us!

Our last booth was Belgium for what it certainly the most unappetizing picture that I may have ever taken...

AAD93E9E-B18F-4F91-9288-2C299B85A9A8.jpeg

But let me tell you, this was absolutely delicious! It’s a Beer-braised Beef served with Smoked Gouda Mashed Potatoes and is always a favorite, but boy, it really doesn’t photograph well!

We wandered through the shops in Japan to pick up some last minute candies and chopsticks for the fam, and then we headed out to the Yacht Club.

Our flight was still only showing as delayed so we hopped on our bus to the airport around 7:45, where we waited... and waited... and waited... with our plane sitting at the gate... and they still ended up canceling our 11:15 flight, but not until around 10:45. Sigh... I wish they would have just canceled it way earlier so we didn’t have to sit there for hours.

People of course were rushing our gate attendant to rebook, so I avoided the line at our gate and walked a little further away, where I found another gate attendant and got us on the next available flight home, which was 10:55 pm the next day - so we would have another full day to enjoy! I got on the phone with Disney right away and ended up getting us a room with a passholder discount at All-Star Movies. The rep on the phone was so great!

We had to wait a bit for the airline to unload our luggage from the plane, so by the time we got that, got back on Magical Express, and checked in at the hotel, it was around 1:45 a.m. when we got to our room, and we all passed out, exhausted from a long, long day.

So what did we decide to do on our bonus day? Stay tuned to find out!

11/12 - Our Bonus Day!

After we all slept like the dead from our very long previous day, we had to figure out what to do with our bonus day! Sis and I have annual passes, but sis-in-law and niece were out of tickets. Since we had already spent tons of time in the parks, we decided to enjoy some pool time, see a movie at Disney Springs, and then explore the Animal Kingdom Lodge!

I called housekeeping and was granted a late checkout at 1 pm, so around 10:00 we moseyed over to the Food court to grab some pastries and wine, and then hung out and enjoyed our breakfast and a nice swim. It was such a beautiful day!

CC6554F4-1F39-4C9F-A9F0-09106FCCC524.jpeg

After a couple of hours, we changed, dropped off our luggage, and hopped a bus to Disney Springs. Niece bought us all tickets to a movie at the AMC, and it was the first time any of us had tried a dine-in theater! I didn’t take pics, but we got some stuff to share... loaded bacon tots, ultimate chicken nachos, and a boatload of popcorn. Everything was absolutely yummy! We also got their cucumber mojitos which were delicious!

We wandered through a couple of shops and then hopped a bus to the Animal Kingdom Lodge, where we explored the beautiful lobby...

I can’t wait to hang out by this fireplace on a future trip!

We spent a bunch of time checking out the savannah overlooks, taking lots of pics. Here are a few of my favorites... these wildebeest were cool!

Giraffes are niece’s favorite and she was in absolute heaven. This resort is just breathtaking...

We wandered through the gift shop on our way back out to the bus stop, where we caught a quick one to AK and then hopped right on one to All Star Movies... each cheesy!

Then we just had an hour to wait to catch ME to the airport, so we hung out by the pool once more and enjoyed a beautiful sunset...

C9DA5D82-209B-4ADC-B6E9-D5EBF2F04801.jpeg

We got to the airport and our flight went off without a hitch this time, thank goodness!

We really had a great trip, even with our travel glitch. After all, there are worse things than getting stuck at Disney for an extra day!

I’ve got two trips planned this year... one is in 11 days (!!!) with this same set of girlies from 3/19-3/23, staying at All Star Movies again. We really liked the resort on our bonus day and since this is a quick trip, we don’t need anything fancy. Since they renovated and the rooms have two queens, they work fine for us. We are going for a quick visit to Epcot for F&G, HS for Galaxy’s Edge (fingers crossed for a RoR boarding group), AK, DS, and MK... packed days, but it will be fun!

The second trip is my hubby’s idea... we will be married 25 years in October, and since we honeymooned at Disney, he wants to go back for our anniversary celebration! Better yet, since sis and her hubby will be married 30 years this summer, they are coming, too! Yippee! We decided to go 11/14-11/19 to catch F&W and the Christmas decorations, and we rented DVC points to do a split stay - two nights at AKL-Jambo (savannah view) and three nights at BoardWalk Villas! We are so excited! The hubbies have never been to a festival and we know they will love F&W, both are pumped for AKL, and brother-in-law is a Star Wars freak so he will go crazy over Galaxy’s Edge. Sis and I are going to plan a couple of nicer meals for our anniversary celebrations, and I’m also going to surprise them with tickets to the Star Wars virtual reality experience at the VOID at DS!

I’ll be doing trip reports for both, so if you’ve enjoyed this one, I hope you come back and read again! And in case you’re interested, here are links to my last two, as well.

Happy travels, friends! May all your Disney dreams come true!

Yikes! It stinks to sit at the airport like that and end up with a cancelled flight but you certainly made the best of it! Glad you got to enjoy an extra day of Disney out of it!

Just found your report & read it in one sitting! Thank you! I'll be watching for your next report!
