'OHANA 'IMI LOA NĀ HŌKŪ EXPLORE THE STARS

Yes! It was a great experience. My partner and I were joined by a father and his young daughter, so it was almost a private guided stargazing experience.

The astronomer shared lots of interesting folklore and pointed out constellations in both their more familiar western names, and in their traditional Hawaiian names. We lucked out and even got to see Jupiter and its giant spot. Despite the nearby resort lights, we were able to see a lot of stars and planets.

Thanks so much!

Just a few weeks ago my daughter did this. She described it as awesome.

From our trip report from our trip last August:

Once everyone was checked in, the entire group was escorted outside to a designated space between the fire pit and the infinity pool. There, we found our instructor with two telescopes set up, as well as a good number of seats along the entire perimeter of the space. Once settled, he introduced himself, talked about the equipment he brought, and detailed what we were about to see. For lack of a better word, it was stellar! Saturn (we could see the rings!), Mars, Jupiter, and different types of star clusters were made visible between the two scopes as we took turns looking through each for about an hour or so.

Sorry that I cannot recall the price. It was more than I expected, but we did it anyway...and we were so glad that we did. It was really enjoyable. In fact, we enjoyed it so much that while on the Big Island the following week, we skipped visiting the observatory....though also being tired that night helped make that decision too. :)

Yes, $40pp for this premium activity. We LOVED it and would highly recommend it.
From my trip report:
The cast member told us we were the only ones signed up but we waited until just after 8pm for any additional drop ins. No one else came so she escorted us down through the pool area and out the gate that leads down to the beach. On the path just outside the gate (near Little 'Opihi's) there was a local astronomer set up with his very cool GPS guided telescope. With the telescope we were able to actually see the rings on Saturn! He pointed out several key constellations and showed us a small galaxy, several stars with unique properties, and several other interesting sky features. Near the end, he showed us the moon on which you could see amazing detail. This photo was taken with my iPhone through the telescope eyepiece

I would suggest to plan this on the early part of your stay, so if it gets cancel due to weather, you can reschedule. Unfortunately for us, our's was cancelled due to weather and the following 2 evenings we already had other activities planned.

I'm very interested in this activity, but does anyone know what the policy is for weather (cloudy nights)? I'm guessing they would cancel it or move the reservation to a different night, but I don't see anything specific. I guess I could also wait to book until I'm at Aulani and know the forecast.

We're signed up later this month. I thought about waiting until we're there but most of them were already booked (spring break time).
