OK - with POFQ closing, where should I make my rezzies?

Just got home from work and had a message from my travel agent that POFq was closing. My trip is December 15-20th and I will be traveling by myself. I don't have anything against children (after all, it is DISNEY!) But I would like a quieter resort (a moderate) that is convenient to things and not a lot of walking (I figure I'll get plenty of that in the parks).

Any suggestions?

Well when we looked at moderates for our trip at New Years (cancelled the week before due to illness) it was such a hard choice but I did in the end go for CBR - mainly because the rooms looked real nice and each group of rooms had a quiet pool and obviously the new refured food court oh and finally it's proximity to the Boardwalk.

Unfortuantely we never got to go :(

Coronada Springs is another moderate that is a hit with adults because it's used for a lot of conventions and therefore I would imagine would have less kids but probably still not that quiet with all the conferences going on. I personally don't think it's as convenient as other Moderates.

Did your agent say why it was closing? Renovations? Cost-Cutting? Did your agent say if it was temporary or permanent? This is my FAVORITE moderate and I'll be pretty perturbed if it is a permanent closure.

As for another moderate, the rest are pretty spread out in size, so you may want to keep this in mind. I would have your agent check to see if this is a permanent closure or not. The last time they "temporarily" closed POFQ, they gave guests the option of either going to another moderate or upgrading to either the Animal Kingdom Lodge or Polynesian for $20 more a night. They did this last year when they closed Caribbean Beach for renovations. I had booked CBR at a discount code rate, so I was getting it pretty cheap. I then found out about the closure and got the Polynesian for $20 more a night. With the discounted rate, plus the $20, I ended up paying $109/night (including tax)!!! If this is not an option and you had to choose another moderate, I guess I would recommend CBR. Coronado Springs is very spread out, as is POR.

Yes, I understand it is closing for renovations - I guess I'll try CBR
unless my travel agent (who is an Orlando/WDW specialist) recommends something else.

I would recommend holding off on making any changes right now. I'm guessing that they may offer the upgrade like they did the last time they closed POFQ, but don't quote me on it. I would sit tight for a few weeks, keep checking the resort board and see if this happens. If it does not, then I would recommend Caribbean Beach. I think you'll like it there. I would also recommend having your agent put in a request for Martinque bldg #25 or 26. These are very close to Old Port Royale (main building) & the main pool. I would also have your agent mention that you are going solo and would prefer to stay as close to the main building as possible. I've made these requests and have always been very close to the main buildings. Not that I don't feel safe there, but just a little safer. :smooth:

I'm alittle worried myself because we are staying at the POFQ for our honeymoon (Dec. 19-30) and I haven't received a call from Disney yet saying the FQ is closing for 2 years! Just found out by reading this thread...

I thought Disney was booked in every resort during Christmas week, where would they move us? Looks like I won't be able to call Disney until tomorrow....I work night shift.
