Opinions on Boma buffet?

Been thinking of trying this dinner buffet at AKL. I've heard some good comments. Anyone care to add theirs? :D

My fiance and I went to Boma last May, and we loved it!! The food was great, and the choices were wonderful!! There was a great mix of African food and more traditional food for the less adventurous. We're planning on taking our families when we go next May for our wedding.

There is SO much food to select and try!
MORE than anybody can eat! For example, there is usually 4 or more soups!
Lots of salads, I can't impress enough how many different selections that are available!

BUT, it's a very noisy place. It is very hard to carry on normal conversation, especially at the tables in the center of the room.

Aside from that, I have dined twice there for dinner and still remains high on my list.

Boma is well worth the time and the money - my husband and I love it there - so many delicious and interesting dishes to try - we highly recommend this restaurant! (my mom loved it too)

This was one of my favorite restaurants from our last trip. We dined out at many, but unfortunately it didn't get to the list for our upcoming short and sweet trip.

My DH was alittle nervous when I told him about the food, but he did enjoy it quite a bit. Alot of the food is made for you to add flavor to. Weither it was spicey or sweet but with a different flare. I tried all the soups, they were delicious. And the desserts were to die for...especially the zebra domes.

I let DH pick some new restaurants to try this trip, but next year we are going back. That gives me an extra year to loose some weight so I can really have fun with the desserts.;)

Maybe expectations are everything, but we had heard nothing but MARVELOUS comments about Boma before we tried it last May. So of course, when we went, we didn't understand what the big deal was. Most people we saw around us were eating mostly items off the kid's buffet (mac and cheese, spaghetti, etc.). We thought it was a lot of money for mac and cheese.

Atmosphere is less than desirable also. Most tables for 2 offer no privacy - many tables are tiny tables that stick out from a big long bench that offers a hard chair on the other side of the table (hard to describe).

I know many people love it, so odds are, you probably will also. Good luck!

We enjoyed Boma, as well. There is SO much from which to choose on that buffet!!! We came out of there feeling as if we had eaten Thanksgiving dinner... a couple of times!!! It is not, however, a restaurant at which we feel we need to eat every trip, but it is really good, and should be experienced!

We ate there a couple of trips ago. It was buffet, so of course you can stuff yourself. I didn't care for the line to get my meat. We tried several "African" items but didn't care for them..although there is a lot to choose from, so we were able to find "plainer" food that we did like (kids stuff made it's way to our plates). We liked some dip stuff, and the salads were good. Soup was good..no better or worse than any Dis restaurant. The noise is prob what bothered me the most..it's big and cavernous...we sat near the front for one breakfast buffet, where the servers struck up song as you come into the seating area, many times..very loud. We've been there 3 times..most likely won't go back, as we always came away with a headache. Servers were good, and took away our plates often. We were against the wall (farthest from the buffet). Lots of kids (and parents seem to let them just run around..when we had kids with us, we escorted them to the buffet, and they remained seated until we left), and it seemed a lot of stuff kept getting dropped, which made for more noise.
We tried the breakfast buffet twice. The first time, the omelet line was so long and crowded, our server went in back and got us an omelet. Second time was better, but it was just like all the Disney breakfast buffets IMO...just about the same food. I'm getting a headache just thinking about the noise.

Many thanks, everyone, for the comments and opinions. They are really helpful. I think we will definitely give Boma a try. I am most curious to see all that it has to offer and although I'm not crazy about the noise factor, hopefully the meal will make up for that!

Now to make a PS for dinner....

It was probably the best buffet I have ever eaten at in terms of fresh and high quality food.

Is Boma any quieter for lunch or dinner? We would like to eat there on our next visit in December, and don't mind a certain level of noise, but wouldn't want it intolerable! - what would be the most comfortable, quieter time?

Is the same food served at lunch and dinner? I'll check prices out at Deb's board.

Thanks for any help.

Ann.

It's one of the best meals we've had at WDW. I was very impressed with the quality of the food on the buffet as it's been my experience that usually buffets are lower in quality-- sort of a quantity over quality scenario. But we were WOWED. There was a flank steak there that night that I completely pigged out on. The thing is, I'm not really a steak person. Whatever spices they used on that steak was out of this world and it was fork tender too.

Try some of the African wines too. The servers are very educated about the wines and it was interesting to hear what they had to say about them.

When we were there in June Boma was only open for breakfast and dinner.

We had an early dinner seating, didn't notice the noise and had a quiet intimate table with a view of the pool. Maybe because they knew we were celebrating our anniversary. We got a card and special desserts too with our anniversary written in chocolate.

And we loved the food. There was only one thing I didn't like and several we really enjoyed. I asked for the recipe for two of them and it was emailed to me before I got home. We usually don't enjoy buffets, but this one was great.

We tried it for breakfast and loved it- it really was fantastic. We are going to try it out this trip for dinner.

We loved our dinner there and also did not notice much noise. We sat right near the buffet all the way to the right. The soups, salads, desserts and sauces/dips are fantastic. It is so easy to head over to AKL after a day at AK for dinner too.

When we went we had an early dinner ressie. About 5-5:30. We were one of the first people in the restaurant. It took a while for it to get noisy and fill up. But we were actually seated way in the corner(party of 8 with 4 kids) on the side of the kitchen.

I would suggest going earlier if you are concerned about the noise. I think it has to do with the fact that the ceiling is really way up their...

Thanks to all for the great info and tips....just booked our PS for the Boma buffet. Can't wait! Really looking forward to this one...

;)

We had the coconut curry seafood soup the other night and it was awesome. Leave room for the zebra domes!
