A few quick questions....What other modes of transportation are available besides the WDW buses and monorail (and their cost)? If we have breakfast at Contemporary (for example) can we drive there for a 7:30 breakfast and then leave our car there for the day as we go to the parks? Do buses run early (say 7am)? Thank you all for your help. This is the first time either of us have been to Disney for a stay in over 20 years so we'd like to be as efficient and cost effective as possible. If you happen to have a reservation at a restaurant INSIDE the park, how do you get in if the ropes haven't dropped?

No. Parking at resorts is reserved for people actively at the resort or those staying there. Cars have been towed from the Contemporary parking lot. You can leave it there all day if you pay for valet.

Technically the buses start running a hour before the park opens but I've seen them start earlier than that. If you have a PPO (pre park opening) breakfast, there is a special line for you with a CM stationed there. Your name will be on a list and you will be allowed in, parts of the park will be blocked off but there will be access to the area your breakfast is in. The modes of transportation are taxis, uber and the new Mini Van, which is only available right now to guests at deluxe resorts. I'm not sure about the cost of taxis, the Mini Van costs $20 one way. We took uber from the Dolphin to GF for dinner one night and it was around $7 one way. If you have breakfast at a resort other than your own your options are to drive then move your car to a park, take Disney transportation to a park then to the resort or take a taxi or Uber. I'd probably just Uber then take Disney transportation to the park afterwards.

You can get pretty accurate price estimates for taxis, Uber, and Lyft at RideGuru.com. The different categories of service are also listed and explained.

In addition to being limited to Disney Deluxe guests, MinnieVans only provide transportation between Disney properties, parks, and Disney Springs. They will not take you offsite, or pick you up offsite. All MinnieVan rides are $20, regardless of destination.
