My trip includes myself and the husband, both of us in our early 30’s, with our two boys, ages 8 & 5. Our flight left Milwaukee around 6:15pm CST, about 30 minutes later. We landed at 9:47pm EST, made up the 30 min delay. I tried this new holistic sickness patch, I have serious motion sickness, and after 20 min of it not working and I was now feeling ill I popped 3 Dramamine. It was a Frontier flight and of course the front bathroom was out of order. Otherwise nothing unexpected. We headed down picked up bags and headed over to the rental car area. We rented with Budget and scored an awesome deal by linking it to our amazon account. I did sign up for their fast break rewards, and thank goodness bc the counter inside was going super slow. I headed up to the booth outside and since I hadn’t rented with them before we had to stop for paperwork. Also the lady told us we didn’t need to pay extra for an additional driver since it was my spouse. Score! We got a Ford Explorer and can tell why we got a deal. The car’s outside was unwashed, inside was fine. Took us 25 min to get to Storey Lake resort community, like 3 tolls with the last one costing $2! Almost as bad as Illinois.
We checked in at the gate and got our paper badge for the gate. We rented a 4 bed, 3 bath townhouse with splash pool off Airbnb with rental company Fvh. Now the original listing was moved because the property is being sold or some reason. They contacted me and asked if I would accept a similar unit for the same price, basically the same unit but different owners. I said ok. After getting here around 11:30 and finally getting the kids to bed. When we looked around we found a number of things that maintenance staff and cleaning staff is slacking on. I reported all of this through Airbnb. And they sent someone out the same day to look things over but I will give a more through review under the hotels thread. The husband ran out to the Walmart that was closest to get a couple essentials for the morning, like milk and cereal. He said the Walmart was shady. We went to bed around 2 am.

8/13 - Day 2 of 10. We slept until the kids woke up at 8am. Somehow DS5 set an alarm on his tablet that woke them up. After that we slowly moved around. Had to get the stroller from Orlando stroller rentals so once everyone was functional probably not until around 11, took us 15 min to get over there. And it poured. Got the stroller and since Target is right next store we got a few more things. $$$ Target is like a black hole. Headed back to the townhouse and decided to eat lunch and head to the community pool. We had to drive and when we got there it was closed due to lighting in the area. So we decided to go back and jump in the splash pool even though it wasn’t the greatest it was something. Realizing that my boys probably need to be in a bigger pool. After we chilled and then the boys ate more food, never ending hunger. About 3:30 we realized we should get a move on. So at 4 we headed to MK. I had changed our fast passes the day before after realizing we’d be too tired to do RD. 1st FP was 5-6 for buzz lightyear. However after 15 min in the car then tram ride, security and the monorail the boys were starving and it was 5. We made a pit stop then while walking I mobile ordered food at cosmic rays. We grabbed a table inside got the food and finished with 10 min to go to buzz. The FP actually had a line out the door with a curve, I was surprised. Got through and out at 6:20 and headed to teacups for the 2nd FP. Didn’t really need it but we had it so why not. Then after we realized it was 6:38 and our next FP wasn’t until 7:20.

So we did Mickey’s Philiharmonic, my boys love this, plus sitting in A/C. Got done it was still 6:55 and dh looked like he was going to pass out. He’s a big guy and of course decided to go on the keto diet while at Disney....idiot. So we went to Pinocchio’s for blue slushees as a treat for the kids. By the time that was finished we could finally go on Peter Pan! Woo hoo! The stand by line was 85 min we got on in 10. I failed to mention to dh that this was an up in the air ride and he was shooting me daggers. The last 2x we’ve done this ride he wasn’t with us.... oops! He says never again. Lol. He is scared of heights. One more bathroom stop and then we headed out. Got to the car and left the park around 8pm. It didn’t feel overwhelming crowded at MK to me but dh was complaining. I think it’s mostly this stupid diet and dehydration that made him think that, also 2 rides were down so that doesn’t help.

We forgot a couple things from our Target run and stopped at Publix near Storey Lake. It was clean and of course DS5 had to pee. Got back to the unit at 9 and the kids ate some more.... baths around 9:30 and they were sleeping by 10:10ish. I of coarse run on little to no sleep on my Disney vacations..... it’s just excitement and caffeine.

8/14 - Day 3 - DH and I got up around 7:45am. Made coffee and waited for the kids to get up. That took a whole 15 min. We had fast passes scheduled for 9:30-9:45 for lion king at AK, which I could have rescheduled had they slept in. Instead we rushed them through getting ready to be out the door by 9ish. Got in through the gate at 9:30 and booked it back to lion king. Made it by 9:45, realistically we didn’t need a fast pass. After the show we made a pit stop and got croissants and a muffin and drinks and got a photo by the fence area near the train.

Since the MK train is not running we promised to ride rafiki’s planet train. It started to rain after we left the station and we hadn’t put the rain cover on the stroller....oops. We just rode it around since our next fast pass for the rapids ride was at 11:20. We covered the stroller and left it. We waited about 7 min for the ride. I didn’t tell them is was going to be a wet ride and a little rough but DS5 survived and even asked when we could go again. By this time it had stopped raining. After that we had a FastPass for Pandora river ride so we walked back by the train to get the stroller. We got there at 12:15pm and had about a 10 min wait with the FastPass.

After the ride the drum group started to play and we watched for a few minutes before heading out of the park. We made it to the front right as the tram was saying no more boarding but then like 10 ppl got on. That was annoying. We waited 2 min for the next tram and went back to the car. We got back to the unit about 1. The boys jumped in the splash pool and had some lunch. We forgot our beach towels and there are like a total of 8 towels in this whole unit and 4 of them for us as regular bathing towels and then used 4 for the pool. I then decided to go get some from Target.... and $70 later.

Now the boys are starving and it’s 4 so we’re making dinner. Not sure if we’ll go to a park tonight. TTFN.

8/14 - Day 3 - The other half of the evening. So after dinner the kids mentioned wanting to see fireworks. So we did all the normal pre bedtime stuff and left the unit at 7:50. Got inside the park by 8:30 and at our viewing spot for fireworks by 8:45. After fireworks we headed out. Really kinda seemed like too much driving for an hour. Did manage to catch some of the electric light show while waiting for the monorail. We had a detour, thanks navigation, and made it back at 10:20.

8/15 - Day 4 - Hollywood Studios day and we had fastpasses starting at 10 so we slept in until my mom called at 8:15. We got ready and headed to the park. It took about 10 mins. We split up with ds8 going with DH on star Wars the adventure continues and I took ds5 took frozen. Ds5 didn't like the star Wars ride last time so I figured he'd be ok skipping it. Frozen was ok but I don't feel the need to repeat it. Glad I have boys.

DH said they changed the ride a little bit. They had to wait for us to get out of frozen. So they got 2 donuts and juice $19. The next FP was Indiana Jones but we had 15 min before we could enter so we got a t-shirt for ds5.

Upon entering ds5 was wearing his Indiana Jones hat and a CM asked if she could talk to us. She asked the boys if they wanted to be the junior directors for the show. Ds5 was like what? ds8 - awesome! Pixie dust all the way. We got to sit in the 2nd row and they give you popcorn.

So exciting to see them up there. After the show ds5 conned DH into getting a bull whip. $40... My wallet is sad. We left after that bc it was HOT and humid.

Taking the night off and hanging out in the splash pool.

8/16 - Day 5 - Realized just now we're halfway through our trip already. Where does time go? Today we went to MK. Got up at 7:30 boys were slow going and we didn't get inside the park until 10:20 which meant we missed the first FP for Buzz. The second one was the Speedway at 11 so we DH and kids did ppl mover and then we went to the Speedway. Ds8 is finally tall enough to ride alone!

After we had a fastpass for pooh's ride but I found a fastpass at 11:40 for pirates so we made our way over. Ds5 wanted to do the range first so I took ds8 to see country bears jamboree. We just caught the show. After we got to pirates and ds5 refused to even go inside the line so I waited in the gift shop with him. While doing that I found a fastpass for jungle cruise at 12. DH and ds8 got off at 11:55 and we walked right over to jungle cruise. We waited 15 min for the boat. After many, many dad jokes - very few laughs, we got off at 12:25 and decided to head out. We got back to the unit around 1:10.

The boys ate then went swimming in the splash pool. This splash pool is seriously awesome. The kids love swimming and honestly I really don't want to walk to the community pool. So after chilling out at the unit until 4 I said we should hit Hollywood Studios in the evening. After some 'dinner' type food was eaten ds8 was having tummy troubles, so I took ds5 took HS while dh stayed with ds8. We left around 5 and walked in 5:20. We went over to see Lighting McQueen, which I honestly had no idea was even there. After we walked through the shops and hung around. Ds5 wasn't willing to wait in any lines so we left at 6:40. A very short visit but it's better not to push the kids to far. We got back and I let the kids go swimming for an hour. Then showers and bed.

DH left around 9 to go get his dad from MCO. His dad is working on a job in Orlando and came down early to spend time with the boys. So read the car rental agreement from Budget carefully, because apparently in the rental agreement you automatically agree to the e-toll payment system. Which I didn't realize and now we have double paid tolls! Of course I brought cash and paid not realizing that they were paid.

8/17 - Day 6 - We got up and left the house at 9. Got to Epcot at 9:15. We had to make a pit stop and then headed to living with the land. We finished that and decided to go see Pixar shorts. On the way we saw a sign for Ralph Breaks the internet meet. Detour to there inside the end of Figment ride. Ds5 was refusing to meet the characters. So ds8, grandpa and I waited in line. We got to meet Ralph and Vanellope. Made like muscle man poses. It was fun. Then we headed over the the Shorts films. We didn't realize it was going to be in 3D. The boys liked it. So it was around 11am at that point and the kids wouldn't stop saying they were hungry. DS8 wanted to eat at the Biergarten restaurant. I have no idea why because we live in the Milwaukee area. Seriously a ton of German food and a big Germanfest we go to ever single year! The kid still insist. We didn't tell him that we'd made a reservation there the night before for 12. So we told ds8 if you can get us in we'll eat there. We casually made our way over and arrived at 11:45am. We got in line to check-in and ds8 got to give our last name and say 12pm. That's all we told him to say. HA he totally thought that his puppy eyes got us a reservation! It was so cute. We sat down in the front. No one else sat with us. Did the buffet and then at like 1 we were done. No music or anything so we left. Well of course it's August in Florida so there's mid-day ran, this was a torrent. The kids and I would run when it slacked off but then we'd have to duck for cover. By the time we got the the Africa area and were waiting there 5+ min I caved and bought ponchos. Ds5 was in the stroller with a rain cover so he was ok. Finally made it out and to the car by 1:40.

We got back and went swimming and ate dinner for about 3ish hours and then decided to go back to Epcot to see Guardians of the Galaxy and the fireworks. DS5 fell asleep in the stroller, ugh and of course was a crab when he first woke back up. The Guardians came on and at this point we'd gotten popcorn, slushies and a funnel cake so everyone was happy. The boys didn't know any of the songs but seemed to like it and they danced. We got to go through the AP holder entrance. Felt somewhat special but it really didn't matter. There wasn't a line at all on the non-AP area so we could have just walked up to the front. I thought the show was fun and not too long, especially since it was very hot. After the show we hit the bathrooms and started to make our way back towards the front. I didn't realize that the Kidcot wasn't open later in the evening so ds8 was slightly disappointed but we'll try to go again. Saw 1/2 of the fireworks but we were getting bit by bugs so we left.

8/18 - Day 7 - Our morning started with a reservation at Whispering Cayon Cafe at WL at 9:45am. We left about 9:15am got to WL at 9:35am and checked in. There was some guy coughing by the kids 'playarea' so we went and sat in the lobby. They text us at 9:45 and we were seated in kinda the middle, my FIL asked if they could seat as at a smaller table, jokingly. DH order the meat skillet, ds8 ordered a kids skillet and ds5 got waffles and bacon, FIL order regular eggs Benedict and I got toast. Dh and ds8 shared their food and they each got one refill on the skillets. The server was fun and even laughed and played along with DS5 and him saying I got your nose. We ate our fill and I took the kids to look in the gift shop while dh and FIL paid the bill. I got 2 solar gels from the gift shop bc these work great for the worst sun burn as dh discovered last year.

We went back to the townhouse to get changed and head to the waterpark. By the time everyone was ready to go it was 12:30pm, we got to Blizzard Beach at 1pm. We had fastpasses for TSM at 5 so we only planned to be at BB until 3pm. We went in the wave pool and lazy river, then at 2pm the kids said they were hungry and I had brought lunch for them. They ate lunch while grandpa floated in the river then I took them over to the kids area, not the toddler area. They played around and then we went and found grandpa and dh and left at 3pm.

We just went back to the townhouse to change and get water and snacks. Of course the kids were hungry again so we had them eat food at the townhouse. Then we headed off to HS for TSM fastpass. Got there at 5:20pm and went to our fastpass. For some reason most of the 'inside queue' was closed. Not sure if someone had an accident or something but we went around the outside of the building and then back in to pick up glasses. Weird. The boys had fun. We got off and the alien swirling saucers were only a 20 min wait so the boys, dh and grandpa went on that. I got water and waited in line to see if I could see Jessie. They got off when I was 5 ppl away but they didn't want to wait. We had a fastpass for Fantasmic at 8:20pm so we started walking that way. We went and hit Lighting McQueen and took some pics with the cars after the show. Then it was 8pm. DH was hot and crabby and didn't want to wait for Fantasmic so I cancelled the fastpass and we left. It looked like it was going to storm and as we were driving back we saw some serious lighting.

8/19 - Day 8 - SWGE AP Preview DAY! I have added a link here ----> Click Here I didn't want to double type or have to do more work on it. But basically the preview was great. MF is awesome, I would choose Pilot every time, doesn't make a difference which side to me. Ds5 being a crabby pants cut our visit short which stunk for the rest of us. I can't wait to go back there in November! The boys wanted a lightsaber so we walked over to the store at the end of Star Wars - Adventure continues and had them make their own there versus paying $200 for one inside SWGE. We left the park around 12pm.

Since we had got up so early, 7am(which is 6am our time) for the AP preview I made ds5 lay down after we ate lunch and take a nap. He slept 2 1/2hrs, ds8 did not sleep but just laid in bed. We got up around 3:30pm and I started making dinner at 4:30pm. DH had thrown chicken in the crock pot in the morning so I only had to make sides. We ate some dinner at 5pm and got ready to go to AK. We got into the park around 6:30pm and didn't realize that they were closing at 8:30pm that night. So we headed over to the dinoland area. We had a FP for Dinosaur, which we hadn't been on before, that ended at 7:30. We got up there and I realized that this ride had a ton of motion and I didn't take dramamine. I just walked through to the exit while everyone else rode. Yeah both kids came off crying. DH was like *** did you put us on this for!? At this point it was 7:15pm so we went over to the dino play area and let the kids run around. 3 min in and ds8 said he hurt his leg and proceeded to sit down. We let ds5 play until it closed at 7:30pm and then left. We got ice cream bars, let ds8 sit in the stroller, which of course ds5 complained about. We got in line for River of Lights - standby but CMs were telling ppl they were having technically issues and might be late. So we left the line and went back to the townhouse. We have a FP for it on Wednesday night anyway.

8/20 - Day 9 - Everyone slept in and took it easy since it was the MNSSHP that night. We decided that’d we go to Typhoon Lagoon for a couple hours. After slowly putting ourselves together we finally left at 10:30am. We had run out of sunscreen the day before and decided to stop at Publix. I normally do all the shopping for the sun screen and stuff but since I wasn’t wearing a coverup I sent dh in. He comes out with Coppertone which I’m allergic too. I only have 3 allergies compared to dh who has like 50. No joke dh is allergic to basically Planet Earth. Idk how he cannot remember mine. So after he said I threw away the receipt and me yelling at him to just get in the car we left.

Got to the water park at 11:30. Finally. So we did the wave pool, grandpa decided 1 wave was more then enough for him and he went in the lazy river the rest of the trip. We stayed in the wave pool for 30ish min and then went to go down a slide. Ds8 and I went on Mayhem falls which took 15 min to get to the top after waiting for a tube and waiting in line for the actual slide part. Ds8 enjoyed it but said it was very bumpy on his butt. Lol. I then took the boys on the lazy river to find grandpa. One circle and no grandpa in sight. Got out of the river, decently crowded and went to the locker bc the kids would be hungry. I took a wrong turn somewhere and had to walk forever to get back to the lockers. From there we went to find dh. He was hanging out on one of the bridges by the wave pool over the lazy river.

We went to the first food place we saw. I honestly don’t remember the name but it was the one with a Cuban burger on the menu. Dh and DS5 were waiting at a table while I got food with ds8. 30 min later.... 2 chicken kids meals and one chicken wrap kids meal and $37. We ate and at this point it was almost 1:30pm. I told the boys they could go in the wave pool for 4 more waves.

We found grandpa by the chairs while the kids did their waves. They had a photo pass person hanging out in front of the center of the wave pool and of course we had to stop. We got a group photo and one with just grandpa and the boys. It was now almost 2pm and the kids were crabby. Grandpa needed to change his shoes, yes to walk out to the car in the parking lot. Since we had already had that same long experience at Blizzard Beach I went and got the car. By the time I pulled up to the entrance of the water park they were waiting there.

We got back to the townhouse after 2pm and I made the boys change and go nap. They both napped, DS5 until 4:30pm and DS8 until 5:20 when I had to shake him awake for dinner. We ate at 5:30pm and went to put our costumes on. DS5 was Indiana Jones, ds8 was a camp kikiwaka counselor from the show Bunk’d, and I got a Disney Hades dress from Hot Topic. Dh didn’t dress up and grandpa wore his shirt that said “just an ordinary Demi-grandpa” with an outline of Maui. After all was said and done we left at 6:50pm.

We arrived at MK at 7:05pm walked into the park at 7:10pm. Now all of us have multiple magic bands and on this day DS5 decided to wear a different band then he’d been using while there. So of course his ticket didn’t come up. Thank goodness for the hard tickets which I had in my purse, just in case! We walked in but no one gave us wristbands for the party so we had walked all the way back to the trick or treat bag pick up when a CM finally said, hey where’s your bands for the party? Cue grandpa complaining about it.... we walke all the way back to the front to have our magic bands scanned again. More grandpa complaining......

After a lot of indecision we entered the park and then made the first pit stop. We went into Tomorrowland and the boys wanted to ride the people mover. After that I took them to a trick or treat stop, they got an applesauce which they were like no candy?! Dh and grandpa had disappeared and when I asked ds8 if he knew where the answer was no. So we tried calling and then headed towards the teacups. Dh called me back when we got by the speedway and we waited for them to catch up. He had gotten the special drink with cotton candy on top but by the time he got by us it had melted into the drink. Ds8 said gross, a recurring theme for all the special Halloween items, DS5 liked should mention that DS5 has been on a pretty strict diet lately so this was like the best night ever for him.

DS5 wanted to go do the teacups but ds8 didn’t so grandpa did teacups with DS5. Took 10 min to get on. He was happy. We then heading towards the back of the castle and dh wanted to get the malificent ice cream. Ds8 and I didn’t care for the lime flavor. DS5, Dh and grandpa liked it. Ds8 really just wanted to do the treat stops but dh was firmly opposed. We did get him 2 agree to a few more stops.

We did some of the special photos but for some reason they’re not showing up in MDE. Not sure why. We rode it’s a small world and then headed to the liberty town area. Dh informed us that he was trying to collect the 3 ghosts from the haunted Mansion. Geez.

While walking I saw another photo op by HM so we stopped plus the 1st parade was going on. After that we tried to make our way over to the popcorn stand to get the first ghost. Decently long line so we took the kids through a treat stop at diamond horse. That line was busy too. Dh got the ghost, no popcorn and 1 wedding cake. The boys didn't like the cake but I thought it was good. When we got done with the cake we headed towards Pecos bill to get the 2nd ghost. We stopped at the treat stop in country bears. Then I waited like 15 min for a blue powerade and ghost cup. At this point we needed to pee so half of us waited on the porch area. Then the fireworks started so DH ran around the corner to get the last ghost. When he came he had apple cinnamon donuts. They were hot so the kids would not try them.

To be continued

Day 9 continued - After the fireworks I told dh I wanted to make my way over to the front of the castle for the villain show. We got there and of course the whole front area was crowded and we managed to get a spot on the very corner left side of the stage. DH was complaining his back hurt and he was talking about going to sit down in front of the Crystal Palace while the show was going on. However while him and grandpa were discussing this the show started. They stayed through the whole thing. DS5 and ds8 enjoyed it, ds5 kept asking who all the villains were. After the show the parade was going to start in a few minutes and we would have a front row spot to the parade so I said we were staying put.

Cue lots more complaining from dh and ds8, mostly ds8 just wanted to sit down and ds5 was not letting him sit in his area. It was a battle. At this point it was 11:10 so I understood we were at the overtired and super full of sugar from the candy and treats. While we were waiting the headless horseman rode through and ds5 got a little scared. I assured him that the horseman was a costume and not real and he was fine after that. It was now 11:20 an dh was like I thought this was supposed to have started already. I explained it has but at the other end of the park. He was like "***" and yes he said that out loud and another dad looked over like, hey don't swear but yes we're all thinking that. DH was at this point very annoyed and grumpy... always making it extra fun. 🙄 Finally the parade made it to our area around 11:25ish. All the floats went by and both boys were super excited! After it finished ds5 asked where Jack was.... IDK. At the start of the parade the Mad Hatter stopped and told ds5 he had an awesome hat! DS5 just smiled so big at that.

We then headed towards the bathrooms by Casey's Corner and Crystal Palace. We made it just in time before the lines appeared in the bathrooms. We got out and decided to just let some of the crowd get out before making our way towards the front. While everyone was sitting there dh wanted to get the jack and sally push pops so I walked over to the popcorn cart selling them. Neither of the boys like them, dh and grandpa ate them. After that it was around midnight and we headed to the monorail. Got back to the townhouse like 12:30am and put the kids to bed. We went to sleep around 1-1:30am.

Overall for us the party was fun with the extras but it isn't going to be a thing I feel we need to repeat with the whole family. I would probably go by myself if I really wanted to do the party again.

8/21 - Day 10 - The plan was to hangout and slowly pack and then go to AK in the evening for the River of Lights. Cue plans out the window. After sleeping in, you know until 8:30am when the kids bounced into our room like Tigger :tigger:. We dragged ourselves out of bed and put coffee in. When I asked the boys what they wanted to do they said go to 'our pool', meaning the splash pool, and AK later. Cool. So we lounged by the pool and then just slowly packed some things and cleaned up as we went. Not really doing anything. Finally around like 1pm I said I needed to return our stroller and it was a 20 min drive. Grandpa and kids came with, dh stayed behind and napped. Lucky him! Ds5 fell asleep in the car and while we were out we stopped at Target for some souvenirs, cheaper then WDW. After grandpa wanted to see where Windsor Hills was since we told him that we've stayed there a number of times and it was good. He couldn't believe how close it was to Disney. We have a Nov. trip planned and he's thinking we should switch resorts. Woo Hoo! Headed back to the unit and did some more packing and such. As it got closer to dinner we realized that we really didn't want to go back to the parks because we really needed to clean up the unit and we were tired. So I cancelled our FPs and we hung out and watched a movie.

8/22 - Going home - Check out for our unit was at 10am. We rush cleaned/got ready and then out the door at 9:40am. We didn't make breakfast there so we stopped at a Denny's around the corner. Bad food and worse service. The waitress was so mad because we didn't want to sit underneath a missing panel that had hot air pouring out of it. Literally we asked to be moved to the table next to it. She wanted us to move to a corner booth and dh refused bc he's like 360 lbs and doesn't fit at a booth. It was annoying. After that we just headed to the airport. We were there 4 hours early! DH refused to let us stop to get snacks at Walmart or anywhere else that would have been cheaper then the airport. Nope like $50 later with snacks. Also why does Starbucks at the airports always take 10x longer then any other Starbucks?!? Is it just me thinking that? Anyways we got on the plane around 2:30pm, the boys were invited to sit in the cockpit. OMG made the kids day! Thanks to Frontier for the awesome photo op! Everyone on and doors locked 10 min before scheduled take off. We had rough air and I was ill. Ugh 3 dramamine tablets later.... I really try not to eat or drink stuff on the day of travel from anywhere questionable, no I didn't eat anything at Denny's that morning, because I have such a hard time flying. We landed about 40 min earlier then scheduled, thank goodness, and got our bags and went home.
