Poignant single moments in parks?

My DD's school band recently performed at DL & I chaperoned. Her dad was never a Disney fan; she and I did most trips solo even pre-divorce but we did have 5-8 family trips while we were together. My DD & I have been more than 20 times & think of Disney as "our" place.

For some reason (I will kindly characterize it as typical insensitivity rather than malice), he and his replacement wife (we were together 20 years) decided they needed to be there "to share this moment with her." They did not see her any other part of the trip & have never taken her to DL or WDW themselves (even though they all flew in & out of MCO on a Feb FL trip this year).

I have dealt very well with the divorce & think it was for the best. My DD & I even went to DL the weekend he moved out (which was also my b'day) as a distraction. (Thinking back on it, we also took her to see a Disney movie together after we told her about the divorce.)

It hurt me so much to stand there in the back alone watching her perform on a stage where we first went together as a family when she was 3. (As a chaperone I was backstage getting them ready & helped escort the group onto the stage; all of the seats were taken. Ex & wife were front row center.) I would have been OK with it if he was there solo or not at all but instead it just made me feel very, very alone. It should have been a moment for us to share & instead it felt very hurtful.

Thanks for letting me share this with others who might understand.

I do understand. I go through pretty much the same experience with my children's activities. You are not alone, and I sincerely hope you are coping okay.

That sounds awful, I'm sorry this happened to you. You didn't say how old she was but if she's in band I assume pre-teen or teen. Kids are perceptive! She knows what happened here and who was there for her all those times!
