Polynesian Pixie Dust: A Love/Hate Vacationship. An October 2017 TR *updated 2/12x3 and Complete*

He's only like five years younger than me or something, so if DH dies before me when I'm around 85ish, and Zac Efron is still a young, spry 80, I'll be waiting. OMG, please don't ever tell him I said that. DH I mean. You can tell Zac Efron if you want to, that's cool.

:rotfl:

I don't know Zac Efron personally, so I probably will just keep this info to myself.

I did take a selfie with his face behind me once though when we were in NY watching the taping of one of the outdoor morning shows, and he happened to be on the show and came over to shake some hands.

We were on our way back over to shop in the Muppet shop - which is pretty misleading b/c there is barely anything Muppetty for sale in there.

Teehee muppetty.

I could tell immediately afterward that she didn't deal with Star Tours as well as she had all of the other rides so far.

I'm not surprised about this. I don't even bother with this one. It would definitely have me out of commission. But good for her for trying I guess.

A dole whip vanilla/pineapple swirl of course! Hey, I had a salad for lunch, it's fine!!

But like, did you even stay at the Poly if you didn't get a dole whip??

That one encounter basically makes you his best friend, and you should make sure he knows that. Nothing scary about that to a celebrity at ALL :rotfl:
I have to share this now, b/c my mom would have actually been serious if she'd said the same thing I just typed, lol. When I was 19 I met a famous Nascar driver, Tony Stewart. He hit on me during an autograph signing. My mother EMAILED him (or his "people" via the contact email listed on his website) and basically gave them all this information about me and said he should date me. I'm 1000% serious. That is my mother.

LOL, I thought muppetty was one of the better words I've invented lately :rotfl2: And that lady by Cruz Ramirez thought I was a grownup. Joke's on her!

Star Tours even kind of gets to me every once in a while. It's a recent development in the last couple of years. It makes me sad b/c I love it!

Dole Whip is a Poly must do!! Stacy should do a whole segment JUST on Poly Dole Whip. I was so excited to get the swirl since it had been gone from MK for so long...although now I think it's back there too??

Hey girl, hey! I've been out of the Dis for a while but I'm back and so glad to have found your TR! It's taken me two days to get all caught up, so I apologize about the number of quotes! lol!!

I brought my mom along for her FIRST EVER Disney World trip.

YES! What a great daughter you are!

The parking was free though, and you can't beat that!

Free is the best !

We got some Polynesian pixie dust! We'd been upgraded to Club Level. Yep, we'd be residents of Hawaii and the King Kamehameha Club for the week.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

And she says, "I didn't see it before!"

Um...what? How did you miss the GIGANTIC castle?

hahahahahhahaha!!

I. Love. Pirates. Of. The. Caribbean.

Love.

Same

I present to you, Awkward Selfie With Bear. See you soon art museum. #Quality

so cute tho! lol!!

It was the Declaration of Independence one that I always end up seeing...someday I vow to catch the Paul Revere one!!

ahhh I always end up seeing the Paul Revere show!

My mom is a ride chicken. But she also knew I was going to test her with Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in a few days.

I can totally relate to her chicken-neses!

Looks like that little girl was really thirsty :rolleyes1

There was an oddly placed regular shower head and a handheld option. We both just settled for the less messy handheld option and I decided I would mess around with the regular shower head later and see if I could come up with a solution. I'm pretty sure I was texting Raeven at this point and stressing out about asking for a room change. The door was annoying, but the shower was a huge disaster. It wasn't just us being idiots who couldn't work a shower either, there was discoloration and swelling of the wood on the back of the bathroom door showing that this was a regular occurrence.

AHHHH! This has happened to my mom and I as welll... well, not in Disney, but in a hotel we stayed at before. I was just telling my mom about your experience and siad she couldnt handle that... guess what lady, if we get updated to CL, we're roughing it with the darn faulty shower

My margarita?? Well, it was kind of disappointing. I

NNOOO!

took a screenshot of our FP plans and made it my lock screen, so I wouldn't have to keep opening the app.

genuis

we're going to put our house on the market this spring and hope to move into a new home closer to the lake *or* do a custom build

so so exciting!

We were too late for dessert service

too late for dessert? is that a thing?

got my mom on Big Thunder. She said she felt ready for the next step up after surviving Mine Train, and I told her this was the next step.

Awesome!! I feel like 7DMT is 'worse' than BTMR

es, she IS actually wearing a shirt that says Save the Hooters

hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahah

Can you believe it??? She did it!! And she didn't hate it! But she didn't want to ride again either

LOL I can relate to her #neveragain #onceisenough

#GirlPower (yes, I also was really into the Spice Girls when I was 15. Scary Spice was the BEST spice)

Spice Girls is where it was AT for sure #ifyouwannabemylover #youbettergetwithmyfriends

My photoshoot was cut short when a lady told her kid, "It's ok, go up, she's just a grown up."

Just a grown up. Please. Do you even know me? I wear mouse ears and have Peter Pan on my shirt.

HOW RUDE (said in a Stephanie Tanner voice, naturally)

Thank you for being a friend, Betty!!

I like what you did there!

I'm so motivated! Let's keep going!!

Chapter Six Part Four

My mom felt a lot better after her nap, and was already awake and getting ready when I got back to the room. We were planning to go back to Epcot for the evening. I had made a Fast Pass for Spaceship Earth since we'd missed it on our previous Epcot day, and we wanted to eat at more Food and Wine booths for dinner since we skipped a bunch of those, too.

We walked to the TTC and took the monorail directly to Epcot. Soon, we were taking in this beautiful sight!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Walking inside and seeing that big, beautiful Spaceship Earth just makes me so darn happy!!

We were so excited and happy in fact, that we decided to get crazy and try one of those "I am holding up Spaceship Earth, OMG I am the strongest person ever" photos!!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Eh. Close enough!

We had about 20 or 30 minutes before our SE fast pass was set to open, so we went to the Art of Disney to kill some time.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I love the artist desk. No one was sketching at this time, sadly.

There was a visiting artist there though, selling and signing. I like to buy Disney artwork for DH, so I picked up a piece by the artist for him. We've been lucky enough to meet Larry Dotson the past three visits and have him sign for us, so it was fun to mix it up with this guy's work:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I guess I didn't take a picture of the artwork itself, but it has all four park icons and says "Four parks, one world".

Our fast pass time opened so we headed back up to ride Spaceship Earth

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Here I am in my bubble car!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

And apparently I live in the middle of the ocean

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

at least I'm not alone out there!

I'm not sure if my mom cared about Spaceship Earth at all, but it's one of my favorites, so to be honest, I wasn't too concerned with her opinion of it :rotfl:

We were hungry so we double teamed it and I went to one booth while she went to another (and I got the little AP mini buttons at each)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

This was the loaded mac and cheese and the avocado crema from Active Eats. The mac and cheese was DELICIOUS. It included bacon, cheese, onion, and peppers. The avocado crema had strawberries and yellow cake in it and a crunchy crushed tortilla topping. Sounds weird but was amazing. We also had the Ricotta and Zucchini ravioli with rustic tomato sauce from Earth Eats. This was just ok. It was boring after the yummy yummy mac and cheese and the crema!

We kept walking and kept our eyes out for any food items that seemed irresistible. Our ultimate goal was the Mexico pavilion, so that's the direction we headed.

Greece caught our eye

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I knew I wanted the Taste of Greece from here

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

This was, from the left, stuffed grape leaves with lemon dill sauce, grilled octopus, and feta dip with warm pita.

I love stuffed grape leaves, and these were ok. My mom liked them the best. She wouldn't touch the octopus, so it was all mine. The octopus from Tiffins is like food of the gods, and while this didn't live up to that, it was a million times better than I dreamed octopus cooked at a tiny temporary kiosk could ever be. The feta dip tasted more like store bought pimento cheese dip (which I don't care for) than feta (which was sad b/c I LOOOOVE feta cheese). We didn't eat all of it.

We also picked up the spanakopita there:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

It wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't good either. Kind of bland and greasy. Mom liked them more than I did. I feel like they may have been the end of a batch. Maybe if they'd been more fresh they'd have been better.

I was anxious to get to Mexico for the Grand Fiesta Tour. I know not everyone shares my love of this ride, but it's one of my favorites!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

Fiesta Hoy!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I always exit the Fiesta Tour a little happier and a lot more sing-songy than when I got on. It usually involves me bopping around and singing Three Caballeros for another half hour or so ::yes::

Up next we stopped in the Stave Church in Norway to check out some of the Frozen displays. My mom is forced to watch Frozen every Thursday when she stays with my three year old niece, so she wanted to take a look.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We sauntered toward China and I noticed some commotion - the acrobats!

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We watched them finish their performance before admiring the China pavilion. It was really showing off tonight:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

I like the China movie, but I knew if mom had issues with Impressions de France this would be worse since you have to stand. And after Star Tours, I figured it would be safer to skip it.

My feet really started hurting for some reason around this point. It was to the point where I was complaining about it. If I complain about something hurting me while at Disney World, it must be really bad. My mom knows I'm not a complainer, so she was kind of concerned about me. I suggested maybe just going as far as the International Gateway and then hopping on a Friendship Boat to one of the resorts, and taking a Minnie Van or uber from there.

She agreed...but when we passed Germany she wanted to stop for...

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

This is the Schinkennudeln, pasta gratin with ham and cheese. She loved it, and I thought it was ok, but we both agreed it was waaaayyyy too heavy and not the best idea for us to have picked up.

I kept limping along the world showcase, we eventually made it to the Friendship Boats. First stop was the Boardwalk, so that's where we got off. I told mom this is where we had stayed in December 2016. She thought it was very pretty. When I was there last it was the week before Christmas, so it was nice - though a little odd - to see the lobby without all the Christmas trees and gingerbread houses.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We thought about taking a Minnie Van, but the wait time was shorter for Uber so we did that instead. Before we knew it we were back at the Polynesian, walking toward our Hawaii home. They were getting the movie started on the lawn:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

It was Lilo and Stitch, and I considered staying to watch, but I settled for just watching the opening credits because He Mele No Lilo is a beautiful song, and it always makes me tear up for some odd reason.

When we got inside, we didn't go back to the room...we went to the lounge.

Yes, if you can believe it, we ate MORE food. I feel sick just thinking about how much I ate on this day :crazy2::crazy2:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

But in my defense, it was passion fruit panna cotta night again!

And my mom loaded up on the mocha tarts:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/143888229@N08/

We somehow managed to roll ourselves back downstairs to our room and went to bed. We had another big day ahead of us - our last full park day at the Magic Kingdom!

Have a good night, Friends!

I like what you did there!

Oh my gosh I totally hear you about being away from the Dis for awhile. I was reading so many TRs and I know when I go back to find them they're all going to send me back to the first page and I'm going to have to figure out where I left off!

I was SO ANNOYED about the shower and stuff in the room. I was definitely not feeling the upgrade for awhile. But eventually we mostly got the shower figured out...well, at least it flooded slightly less of the floor than it did at first, LOL. Having the lounge was really nice. Although, now my mom thinks that's just how Disney is, she's ruined now :rotfl:

I felt a lot of pressure to make sure she was having fun, but I was proud of her for risking it on some of the rides!

Or maybe...for the time being, I could produce a video of my cat, who's name just happens to also be Stacey J. Aswad (total coincidence!), and she could do some kind of a dubbed glowing review of Poly dole whip.

Yeah...now that's probably going to be a thing. :cat:

We walked to the TTC and took the monorail directly to Epcot.

I love this about the Poly!

Oh Spaceship Earth! You big beautiful shining ball of hope and joy! I never get tired of taking pictures here.

I guess I didn't take a picture of the artwork itself, but it has all four park icons and says "Four parks, one world".

I like the style of his artwork! Neat!

And apparently I live in the middle of the ocean

Woah, this totally messed with me that the land was blue and the water was green! For a moment I was like..."She's not in the ocean! What's she talking about?" Oops. Colours matter!

Yummmmm! These are the two things I'd absolutely want to eat!

She wouldn't touch the octopus, so it was all mine. The octopus from Tiffins is like food of the gods, and while this didn't live up to that, it was a million times better than I dreamed octopus cooked at a tiny temporary kiosk could ever be.

Oooh, her loss! I love me some good octopus! My mom's husband is Greek and still has family there, so they go over to Greece every couple of years in the summer. They went for their honeymoon, and she said she had the best, freshest seafood she'd ever tasted (and we live on the east coast in fishing/lobster country!) Especially the octopus. But she said the octopus appetizer at Tiffins was almost to that level of perfection.

Mmm...I love me some good octopus.

Yes, if you can believe it, we ate MORE food. I feel sick just thinking about how much I ate on this day :crazy2::crazy2:

I'm not surprised, because I'm pretty sure we would have done the exact same thing. I don't even understand how it's possible to eat so much at Disney. But we always do.

That whole Hiram/Archie thing was so weird!! And last night's episode :scared1: You'll have to let me know when you watch!!

I'll try to watch this weekend!

I was REALLY glad Mater wasn't a spy. That whole storyline was ridiculous. I feel like that movie was only made b/c of how popular the first one was and how well the toys sold - it came out when I worked at the Disney Store, and people were insane about collecting some of those cars. I was yelled at so many times when we didn't have certain ones in stock. Like I was personally responsible for all the Clown Maters being gone!

:rotfl: I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was made just to sell merchandise. Clown Mater sounds adorable! BTW Josh is confused by my love of Mater he does not like him at all.

I agree that it's really bad in front of the trees! I don't understand the attitude that kids should go first. Learn to wait, kiddies!

Oh yeah we saw people who had dressed their kids in matching outfits doing a full on photoshoot at the Grand, and the kids were too young to really cooperate so they were there for like a half hour!

It didn't take too long to be seated - we were hitchhikers. But we didn't murder anyone.

Good to know :rotfl:

This was the loaded mac and cheese and the avocado crema from Active Eats. The mac and cheese was DELICIOUS. It included bacon, cheese, onion, and peppers. The avocado crema had strawberries and yellow cake in it and a crunchy crushed tortilla topping. Sounds weird but was amazing.

Ooo I was wondering if you got this after I texted you the pictures when we went. I'm glad you liked it too! It was my favorite booth.

It was really showing off tonight:

Glad to hear you and your mom aren't murderers ;) Glad it was a good lunch!

I'm sorry your mom didn't feel well after Star Tours. And a bummer to miss out on Olaf!

You two are so cute posing with the awards!

Ugh that dole whip picture is making me salivate right now (I don't care if it's not even 9am, I'd eat that for breakfast!)

Your photos of the China pavillion are so pretty!

Ah I'm sorry your feet started to hurt! Haha I do not blame you for stopping by the lounge to end the night though!!

Yes, if you can believe it, we ate MORE food. I feel sick just thinking about how much I ate on this day :crazy2::crazy2:
This is how we felt last saturday...

Sorry you missed Olaf and that your mom was feeling unwell.

Yum! Poly Dole Whip :love:If I ever stay at the Poly I will probably get one every day!

I’m so glad your Mom liked FOP it’s such an amazing ride
EE too so much fun
ST bothers me sometimes too even though I love it
SciFi is a lot of fun but the last time we went the food was not good but that’s been a few years
May need to revisit it
Love the Poly so much when you return from the parks is so relaxing and beautiful there
Such a beautiful picture of the China pavilion with the sun setting

Just binge read your report in two days. The title caught my eye since it had Polynesian in it. We just bought DVC points there but we haven't stayed there yet :upsidedow.

Love the report, especially the poly pics and the Halloween decor. We already knew we wanted to try a MNSSHP sometime soon. But now I really want to go just to see the Halloween decor. We've been there for the Christmas decor the last two years, which I love. But Halloween is my second favorite holiday.

Planning to hop over to your most recent TR next. :)

For a stupid moment, I saw the name Stacey and thought you were about to talk about my cat! Stacey should do a segment on Poly dole whip! Human Stacey, not Cat Stacey. I'm not surprised, because I'm pretty sure we would have done the exact same thing. I don't even understand how it's possible to eat so much at Disney. But we always do.

I feel like your cat would make an awesome "Must Do Dole Whip" video - she might not like the pineapple, but if she's anything like my dogs, the vanilla would be right up her alley. Penny and Olive, my chihuahua and shih tzu, see ice cream and flip out. It's not because I've fed them both the dregs from the bottom of a bowl with a spoon or anything...:rolleyes1

Poly's location is such a winner! That and the food choices are the two main things it has going for it.

I love hearing that Tiffins octopus is right up there will the good stuff from Greece!

Maybe it's because we walk it off?? Matt and I were talking about it last night...when I was by myself I barely ate anything, and when it's hot I don't want anything, but then there are days when I don't understand how I shovel so much into my mouth :rotfl:

I'll try to watch this weekend!

:rotfl: I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it was made just to sell merchandise. Clown Mater sounds adorable! BTW Josh is confused by my love of Mater he does not like him at all.

Ooo pretty.

It doesn't count on vacation!

After the ending I can't wait for this week's episode. I am waaaay too invested in this show. iZombie comes back in a few weeks and I have to figure out how to add that back into my rotation. I still have to catch up on The Good Place :faint:

I would not be shocked if that's the whole reason they made cars 2. Those little metal cars flew off shelves.

It was the best food booth by far! I wish I had skipped everything else and just ate a million servings of the mac and cheese! Especially since it doesn't count as calories while on vacation :rotfl:

You and your mom are so cute! I love all your pics!

Thank you! I was worried about how the trip would go since we don't spend a ton of time together, but it was fun!

Glad to hear you and your mom aren't murderers ;) Glad it was a good lunch!

I'm sorry your mom didn't feel well after Star Tours. And a bummer to miss out on Olaf!

Your photos of the China pavillion are so pretty!

Ah I'm sorry your feet started to hurt! Haha I do not blame you for stopping by the lounge to end the night though!!

LOL, I just figured I'd better reassure everyone :rotfl2:

Yeah, it was a rough afternoon for her, but I was just grateful it was the only time she felt bad. She had me so freaked out before we left when she told me about all her separate meds, and what they were for, and how I needed to give her certain ones if she got really sick...I had moments where I just could not relax b/c I was so worried. A little nausea I can handle!

Dole Whip is pineapple so that's fruit, and fruit is 100% a breakfast food. I saw a thing online from the Dole Plantation in Hawaii where they scoop out the center of a halved pineapple and then put the dole whip in it and cover it in what looked like strawberry syrup. They need to add that at WDW!! It looked so good.

I couldn't resist the bonus desserts in the lounge :rotfl:

I've been so behind!

Because you have a bubble car to drive!

I wish we had tried the crema, even tho I'm not a strawberry fan. I think it was drizzled on something on the holiday booths and I liked it then. The mac and cheese was so good! I'm not an onion fan so I could have skipped those... I let DH eat them all :)

This is how we felt last saturday...

Haha, that's a good point - I really need that bubble car now, b/c it might be really cool to live in the middle of the ocean!

I was really surprised by the crema! It was the perfect dessert, really light and fresh. I never dreamed it would be that good. I miss that mac and cheese every day

LOL, maybe tequila mist IS the reason it makes me so happy :rotfl::rotfl:

I wanted to snack too! My mom is more of a meal person, and she kept asking about "real dinner". Snacking around the world is more fun to me!

Sorry you missed Olaf and that your mom was feeling unwell.

Yum! Poly Dole Whip :love:If I ever stay at the Poly I will probably get one every day!

We might make it up with Olaf...spoiler, haha

It was such a luxury having the dole whip right there! The pineapple/vanilla swirl is downfall!

I was glad she liked it too! Although I was sorry I couldn't take her on it again - I didn't want to wait in that line!! I'm really curious to see what the future holds in terms of wait times for it.

We have had good luck with scifi, and I just love it so much! I understand about having a bad experience and it kind of putting you off. I'm that way about via napoli, even though I feel like I should love it. We didn't have a great meal there a couple years ago, and I just have no desire to go back.

I do love the ambiance at the Poly! It's fully immersive on the grounds, which is always a win in my book.

I wish I knew how to edit photos to take away some of the shadows because it's one of my favorite pictures ever!

Hello and welcome!! We did the DVC tour in December 2016 and the Poly model rooms are what they had on display at Saratoga Springs. I love the layout of the studios there, I'm sure you'll love your first stay there as owners!!

Halloween is my favorite time of the year and i LOVED seeing all the jack-o-lanterns on Main Street, as well as everything else. I think I like the fall decor better than Christmas in the MK...maybe. It changes day to day, LOL!!

Hi! I'm here! I'm so glad your mom seems to be enjoying her first trip. Hooray for your upgrade, too!

Hello again!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Friday I was online trying to get Dave Matthews Band tickets b/c they're coming back to town in a few months. Actual seats were sold out almost immediately b/c of presales, but I managed to get lawn seats. I'm a spoiled brat, I don't want lawn tickets!! DMB is probably the only band I would pay for lawn seating, so I hope he feels special :rotfl: When they were here a couple years ago I got lucky and we had great seats.

My house was invaded by my Odyssey of the Mind kids on Saturday and there are little styrofoam fluff balls that keep popping up all over the place from one of their many projects. The dogs kept walking through it and it statics to their fur. Sunday was a lazy day, and of course we watched the Super Bowl. Go Eagles! I just root for anyone who isn't the Patriots, LOL!

There are two days left of this TR - the one I'm getting ready to start, which is our last full park day...although that's kind of misleading, we didn't stay the whole day! And then finally, our departure day, where we also get in a little park time.

Let's get things going!

Chapter Seven: Just a last little bit of Magic

I'm not exactly sure what we did first this morning, but I bet it involved going up to the lounge for food for my mom and POG juice for me!

We headed to the dock

For our last trip over to the Magic Kingdom

I don't even remember what time it was...probably just a little after rope drop?? It looks like the clock in the next picture says 9:00 maybe.

All I do know is that it was a beautiful day with low humidity, not scorching hot, and the sky was so perfectly blue!

I just wanted to take in more of the fall atmosphere and get every ounce of Magic out of the day that I could!

Things were off to a great start in that regard, because we got to see these guys coming out for their Meet and Greet set:

City Hall is really pretty with the fall decorations up

We also got up close and personal with this beauty:

And then we just admired things for awhile

There's nothing like Main Street USA. Nothing.

Even with this ugly thing hanging around

We even got to see our special horsey friend again!

My stepdad had made us shirts for the trip, and we decided our last MK day was the perfect time to wear them and show them off. Let's find some photopass photographers!!

I can never resist a visit to the little statues in the garden, so that's where we went next:

Hello Dumbo!

It's just such a pretty view of the castle from here

I heard music and knew it must be time for morning trolley. I think this show is so much fun, and the only trolley show I'd never seen before was autumn trolley, so we backtracked a bit to go watch

I have now officially seen all four seasons of trolley show, woohoo!!

It was a great low key morning on Main Street, but it was time to get to some attractions. We'd start in Tomorrowland, and that's where I'll pick up next time!

I got a serious kick out of imagining this. :lmao:

So many great photos!! Nothing like walking into Magic Kingdom and just enjoying your surroundings :) I love the matching shirts, the PP pics came out so cute!
