The view of our site, with our friends' boats. Our tent is the blue thing on the island.

It IS beautiful! 14 miles by boat to get to that spot. Very much in the middle of nowhere - right where I like to be!

No pics of Lake Getchegumee?

Now I have the song "The wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" in my head:confused3 .

Actually, that's where we're headed tomorrow  ! We're taking the kids on their first tour of the north shore of Lake Superior, despite the numerous times we've taken them all the way up to Grand Marais.

Now lets hope it will stop raining long enough to get the tent set up :scared1: ....

Stone Mountain Park - Memorial Day Weekend

Our tent:

Mountain view from our screen house (I had to underexpose the picture
to bring out the mountain in the background, it was a bright sunny day):

Notice the unlevel ground (fortunately it wasn't as bad as some other sites):

Here's a little tip if you ever go during a holiday weekend and
want a good spot for the Laser Show: Take your camp chairs
to the lawn early afternoon and grab your spot. We tied a helium
balloon on the chair so we can find it at night (highly recommended):

This is not crowded YET, it was late afternoon and people
were coming in until 9:30 (when the laser show started).

Have a great time!! We've spent LOTS of time up on the North Shore! There are beautiful National Forest campgrounds up there!

We also love Grand Marais -- we would move there in a second if there was work for us!

Chris, How did you like River Ranch? That's on our list to try out this summer.

We really like it. It's our place to go when we can't get into the Fort. If you can try and get site 348 like we had I think it is one of the best sites in the place. It does get a little expensive$ Everything is extra. Very very nice place and very well kept up most of the sites are privately owned. Lots to do it's a dude ranch.
