Try the cruise critic ports of call section. This thread seems like a good start.

We did a cruise there in 2014. You get off right in town. One popular thing is to walk to one of the resorts along the beach and get a day pass. They aren't private beaches -- there are vendors everywhere. But there are chairs and umbrellas and waiters. The nearest hotel is right across the street from the terminal and they continue for many blocks in a row.

We did an amazing food tour in Puerto Vallarta last to year, and will be doing another one by the same vendor next year.

So glad to see/read that. We're doing that exact tour next week on our land vacation. Dh is so worried about crime (despite everything I read from travelers and expats that we'll be fine.) I'm hoping the Pitillal tour in particular will show him regular life in Mexico is not that bad. Not to mention we are big foodies and food tours are frequently the highlights of our trips.

We love PR. Take a city bus for 40 cents from the port to the old town on the Mallecon. Beautiful. Lots of food and little shops. Wonderful people. Amazing place.
