Quick Weekend Trip to Disney

Hi Everyone!

So I was not intending on doing a Dining Report for this trip since we were only going up for one night and I booked it last minute a couple weeks ago. BUT then we were upgraded to the most amazing room ever and I needed to share!

Quick overview:
Room was upgraded at Grand Floridian to the Victorian Suite in Club Level
Lots of Club Level Lounge food
Dinner at The Wave
Lunch at Satu'li Canteen

So I had gotten sick at the end of my honeymoon cruise and had almost cancelled this trip because I wasn't feeling well. I had hoped I'd be better for this trip and wasn't, but then it was too late to cancel so we had to go. I'm so glad we did!

We were going to go to Epcot originally this day, but not feeling well we ended up getting a late start and didn't get to the hotel until 3pm. Rooms are normally ready by then, but we were told that ours was still being cleaned and they'd text us when it was ready. I looked at the app and noticed that the room category had changed to Victorian Suite. I didn't even know what that was and had to Google it. The Grand Floridian has four exclusive suites that cannot be booked online: The Walt Disney Suite, Roy Disney Suite, The Grand Suite and the Victorian Suite. The only info I could find for pricing is that it costs a couple grand a night at a minimum. Wow!

So we were whisked up to the 4th floor club level lounge to wait for our room to be ready. I've never stayed Club Level before and was just so excited to be on the higher floors in the main building where I've never been allowed before.

It's probably really silly, but I couldn't stop looking down into the lobby from there, I've always dreamed of doing that from one of the higher floors.

When we got there the food was in the in between times, but I did grab a couple cookies before everything was cleared out. Their sugar cookies were awesome.

We got a notification our room wasn't quite ready yet, but I think it was an accident and it was supposed to say it was ready because a few minutes later we asked if there was any progress on the room and they were surprised we hadn't been texted.

This room. OMG. I've never stayed in such a nice room in all my life and probably won't again. It's room 4008, located on the 5th floor and has four balconies! This was the main entrance. Off to the right is one of two bathrooms.

This room even came with it's own umbrella!

One of two TV's in the room. The bar below the TV is a sound system.

The living room! This space is bigger than most hotel rooms.

View from one of the balconies.

Another balcony and a really nice desk, I guess most people staying in this room probably have to work while on vacation with their high paying jobs.

Entrance to the bathroom.

A sitting area by the two walk in closets.

This balcony mostly faced the Grand Floridian hotel.

upload_2019-1-22_8-24-34.png

This balcony faced the Polynesian and you could see the Epcot Spaceship Earth ball in the distance. We tried watching the fireworks over there, but it was a bit far away so not a good view.

upload_2019-1-22_8-25-35.png

All the lights in the room were touch sensitive and written on them was what the light went to.

More real flowers. I don't think I've ever seen a real flower in a hotel room before.

I'm in love with this chandelier.

Okay, I was just absolutely blown away by this room. It is the nicest room I've ever been in and definitely spoiled me for my first time in Club. Now onto food pictures :)

My DH went down to the lounge to get my some snacks while I was soaking in the wonderful room.

upload_2019-1-22_8-35-11.png

This was tuna with spicy sauces. I enjoyed this.

We had a little time before our dinner reservation at The Wave, so we went down to the lounge to see what food they had. This was the dinner portion of the food service. I know you could eat a lot here, but it wasn't really enough to replace dinner for us.

upload_2019-1-22_8-36-43.png

The tuna I had earlier.

upload_2019-1-22_8-37-12.png

upload_2019-1-22_8-37-32.png

I'm not sure what these were since they didn't have a sign, but I think they were a deconstructed baked potato.

upload_2019-1-22_8-38-18.png

They had a big bowl of Mac and Cheese.

upload_2019-1-22_8-39-1.png

upload_2019-1-22_8-39-20.png

The kid corner, which was probably my favorite. I love uncrustables and these seemed extra fancy being cut up. I may have had a few.

upload_2019-1-22_8-40-7.png

upload_2019-1-22_8-40-38.png

I tried the tropical juice, it was pretty delicious.

These looked appetizing, but I didn't like it at all. There was too much sauce it was drowning in it.

Up next dinner at the Wave

Wow, that room is amazing!! What a wonderful surprise for you!
It really was incredible, nicest thing Disney has ever done for us.

Wow, that room is amazing! Talk about some serious pixie dust! :goodvibes
The used the whole bottle of pixie dust on me it seemed!

pixiedust: truly amazing surprise! Thanks for sharing!!!
The moment it happened I was like I have to tell disboards about it!

Wow! You are the second person I"ve read about getting an upgrade to one of these suites. It makes me want to book the Grand Floridian just to see if lightning can strike me!
That's awesome, I never knew they gave such massive upgrades until now. It never hurts to try, their normal rooms are pretty great so even without an upgrade you'd still have a fantastic time. I've been going to Disney since I was a baby so it took them almost 30 years to give me this kind of upgrade surprise lol.

Had you actually made a particular room request with your reservation?
No I didn't make any requests. Since it was so last minute and for only one night I figured wherever they put me I'd be fine with, which I definitely was in the end lol. I did get a call from their concierge team asking me if I needed help with booking anything or needed anything, but I had just boarded my honeymoon cruise so I told them I didn't need anything and was about to leave on a cruise so the call was short. I don't think I mentioned the cruise was our honeymoon, but I did mention it was a Disney cruise.

Dinner at The Wave

We were hoping to make it back to the room before 8pm to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks now that we had two balconies we could watch them from. Our dinner reservation at The Wave was for 6:25pm, we were hoping if we got there a little early they'd seat us early.

We hopped on the monorail to head over to the Contemporary.

upload_2019-1-24_7-47-6.png

While we were at the Magic Kingdom stop I saw my favorite monorail across the way, I love that color. The monorail was packed with people and it looked like a very crowded night was in store for the Magic Kingdom.

upload_2019-1-24_7-48-5.png

I love the uniqueness of this hotel. The fact that the monorail runs through it is just so cool to me.

upload_2019-1-24_7-44-31.png

The Wave is tucked away on the first floor of the Contemporary. It's definitely one of the less known restaurants at Disney and pretty easy to get a last minute reservation. Originally we had dinner reservations in Epcot, but when I knew I was still going to be sick I figured we shouldn't go into a park this day and just take it easy, so we switched it two days before our trip to The Wave. We've never eaten dinner here before and thought it would be nice to try something new.

We checked in and didn't have to wait more than a few minutes before we got the text that our table was ready. Lately we keep getting sat where half the table is a booth and half is a chair and I'm always sat where the cushions divide so I had to pull the table a little closer to the already close table next to us so I wasn't uncomfortable.

upload_2019-1-24_7-49-53.png

The ceiling design looks like waves :cutie:

upload_2019-1-24_7-50-49.png

It didn't seem that busy in there, there were a lot of empty tables around the restaurant, but the service was beyond slow. Our waiter didn't even come over to say hello to us until we had been there almost half an hour. It was a little frustrating, we discovered our waiter was one who went to the two tables on either side of us and he visited them multiple times, made eye contact with us, but didn't say a word. So when he finally came over we were dying of thirst. We ordered right away, but it took a really long time for the food to come out and it took a really long time to get a hold of him again to get our check since we didn't see him again until our food had been long since finished.

upload_2019-1-24_7-53-11.png

The bread my DH scarfed down.

upload_2019-1-24_7-53-36.png

He loved the butter, with the salt added on top.

upload_2019-1-24_7-54-16.png

DH got the Grilled Beef Tenderloin that came with potato gratin, jumbo asparagus and a red wine reduction. He had the asparagus replaced with green beans. He said his meal was delicious.

upload_2019-1-24_7-55-14.png

I got the Braised Beef Short Rib with roasted garlic potato puree, winter vegetables and a peppadew vinaigrette. I thought it smelled delicious when it was brought out. The short ribs had a lot of fat on it and not much meat, but the meat it did have was very tasty. The potatoes were delicious.

All in all the food was good, but the service was horrible and I'm not sure when we'll be back.

upload_2019-1-24_7-57-38.png

We did make it back in time to watch the fireworks from our balcony. You can't hear the music from the Grand Floridian and they don't have a TV channel that plays it like they do at the Contemporary, so we found a video on YouTube so we could watch the fireworks with the correct sound track.

Club Lounge Snacks

All my pictures were coming out blurry for some reason. Below our room they were showing Moana on the lawn.

upload_2019-1-24_7-59-53.png

We went down to the lounge to see what new food they had put out. We had tried looking before the fireworks started, but the new food wouldn't be put out until 8pm. The night time snacks were a dessert variety.

I made some hot chocolate and was really disappointed to discover these were not Mickey shaped marshmallows, but sugar cubes.

I swear these sugar cookies were amazing. I ate way too many of them, but they were probably my favorite food item out of everything we tried.

There were a wide variety of desserts to choose from.

We took a bunch back to the room, the sugar cookie was still my favorite out of everything I tried. We tried to watch the fireworks at Hollywood Studios and Epcot, but it was really far away and they weren't very high fireworks so it was difficult to see, so we ended up giving up pretty quickly.

Up next lounge breakfast food and saying goodbye to the glorious room

Amazing and so happy for you!! DH and I were upgraded to the Roy Disney Suite at the GF last Sept. Blew us away, so thankful as we'll never book ourselves there lol. We're both very lucky :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes Thank you for sharing!
