What advice were you given that you didn't take and you're glad you didn't?
When I was in the Navy I had a guy tell me to buy a sailboat, live on it and put the BAH toward the sailboat payment. After 3 years I'd have a paid-off sailboat, courtesy of the Government.
9 months after I arrived at my first duty station--in fact, 30 years ago this very day--Hurricane Hugo came through Puerto Rico. After it was over you could look down at the harbor and see the masts of all the sailboats sticking out of the water.
