Ok, everybody I need some help. I put a pic in my signature yesterday and it showed up for me fine. (Was on my husbands computer) Tonight when I got home from work and got on my computer my signature pic wasn't there. I've got the link wrong but I don't know how to fix it. This is where it points to but it's obviously not going to work for anybody but me since it's on my desktop. file:///C:/WINDOWS/Desktop/clipart/eeyore1.jpg
I downloaded this pic off the net. Can somebody please tell me where I need to link this so that everybody can see my wonderful eeyore pic????? Please?????

Thanks so much!!!!

Well, you are on your way. You've already figured out that a reference to a picture on your pc won't work. Yep, you need to store it on a web site somewhere and reference it from there. Just so happens that several of the moderators have put together instructions for just this type of thing.

There is a thread near the top of the first page on the Technical support board that was posted by Mary Jo. I've included a link to it here.

Info on Clipart, Fonts, Creating your own DIS website, Smilies, and more....

Within that link are several other links that will help you. You can set up a DIS hosted web page and upload your images from there. Then you can include a link to them from your page, in your signature.

If you have any trouble with the instructions there or you try and something doesn't work for you, post again here and someone will be happy to help.

Bob

Thanks Bob. I didn't realize that I needed a website so I read through the instructions and I created one. Now if I could just find where I downloaded that pesky pic from to download it again....... It's late, I think I'm gonna sleep on it for the night and give it a go tomorrow. Will let ya know how it turns out.

I assume that it is still on DH's computer. You could get back on there, logon to your DIS web page and upload it to your page from that computer.

~~~ edit ~~~
Well, looks like you've either found it or got it from the other machine. Good job!! :cool: You've got the hang of this already.
Thanks Bob. I'm still on my computer. Dh is STILL on his STILL playing Diablo II. But that's a different story all together. :rolleyes: hehe.. Well I tackled the sig pic, now onto a new avatar pic. Wish me luck!!
Be sure and check out the link to "Clipart Guidelines". It contains information about the size limits on signature clipart. It also tells you how to adjust the size if it is too big.
I don't think that it is a problem if they are a bit too big while you are trying them out and deciding which one but it will be important that whatever you settle on be within the guidelines.
~~~ avatars ~~~

The nice thing about avatars is that they don't have to be on your web page. You can get them either from the web or from your pc. They obviously get uploaded to the board and are stored there. I'm sure that is one of the reasons for the limit in the file size.

I love your Eeyore!

I have the same problem with my dh's computer. It's the good one and I need to do my video work on it. You almost have to sign up to get any time on it. :rolleyes: :)

Thanks Lisa, I think he's pretty cute too. ;) Guess we're gonna have to put sign up sheets next to the computer huh? :rolleyes:

I do have a question for you. Can any pic be resized to be your avatar? If so I'm going to need your help when I find the right pic. I know you have to put in the code to resize it ....is this right? "<" IMG width="50"SRC="wherever my pic is ">" (Without the quotes and spaces around the beginning and the ending) Then how do I add height in too? If I'm in the totally wrong direction please redirect me.

Thanks

Misty,

To be used as an avatar, the image will need to be resized using a program for manipulating image files. The method using the "width=xxx" and "height=xxx" in the "&ltimg" html tag will change the size that it displays on the page but not the actual image file size.

Post the image you would like to try to use as an avatar and someone will see if it can be resized for you. If I'm around, I'll be glad to do it for you. Alternately, attach the image to an e-mail to me at bbrazeal@home.com and I'll be gald to see what I can do.

Thanks Bob. I think this is the pic that I want to use.

Here is the little guy. I think he is cleaned up so that he will have the background right around him. Let's see.
