How is the best way for 2 families( total 11 people) to move from Kidani Village at AKL to Grand Floridian for split stay? Thanks

We split stays often and although it doesn't work for everyone, we let Disney transfer our luggage, spend the day at a park and return to the new resort well after check in time. You will not have access to your bags until after check in time so plan accordingly and if that doesn't work for you make alternate arrangements. Bell services will deliver the bags to you once you are in your new room or you can pick the up yourselves.

You could also have a few adults move the bags via ride share, store them with bell services at the new resort and then meet the rest of the party after dropping off the bags with bell service to be stored until rooms are ready.

I did that exact split a few years ago (but solo, not a group of 11). I left my luggage with bell services to transfer. Then I took the bus from Kidani to the MK. Since I use an ECV, it wasn't a problem to take the walkway from MK to the GF. If you don't want to walk, you could either take the Monorail of a boat.

From your Kidani room phone press the bell services button the evening before transfer to schedule luggage pick up the next morning.
Be sure to keep day bags with all medications and anything you will need before you get your luggage back. When you get into your room at The Grand Floridian, call bell services and ask to have your luggage brought to your room. Luggage generally gets transferred in the late afternoon and is often not available until 4pm or sometimes later. As soon as your luggage is picked up at Kidani that morning you can take a bus to any park or Disney Springs to spend part of the day before you take Disney transportation to The Grand Floridian.

are the bags are already at the new resort? or still at the old one when you check in?

They are shipped from the old resort to the new resort sometime during the day, usually later in the day closer to check in time. Ours have always been at the new resort by the time we check in but that is often closer to 7 or 8pm if we are enjoying time in the parks.

I now have an air tag so the next time I do this I can track the delivery real time!

So easy. Call bell services at Kidani, tell them you're transferring to GF. They move the bags, you go to to the parks as usual. When your room is ready, head to the resort, pick up bags, go to the new room. My only tip is just to remember you won't have access to your bags/room for a couple of hours at least, so throw any necessities for the day in your park bag. I usually throw our bathing suits in the park bag in case we decide we want to swim before our room is ready.

Do you receive any form of notification that the bags have arrived at the new resort? Or do they give you a tag number at the original resort that will still apply at the new one?

No notifications given. You can call the new resort bell services and ask. Keep in mind that they will not transfer cold or frozen food. You will have to take that yourself.

No notification and again don't expect them until at least check in time, sometimes later!

Yes - you do get a claim check/receipt when you check your bags that you can use to retrieve them.

Except that walkway is currently closed, reopening "late spring." With Disney, that means "reopening whenever it's open again" so beware if at WDW anytime soon.

If you prefer to go to the GF earlier than traditional check-in time, you can ask at bell services if your things have arrived in case you think of something in them you want or need but can't yet get into your room.

You'll be asked for your claim check and escorted to where they're stored to retrieve it. Useful to know just in case.

What do people do if they have groceries that they need transferring?

will they transfer things that don't need to be constantly chilled like crates of beer, soda's and water's?

If they do, make sure you tip well, that is heavy and awkward stuff to transfer. And also have it contained so it's organized.

Yeah we definitely would. This is our first time doing a split stay so no idea how it all works really, so thanks for the advise :-)
