Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer 2

The idea of "grey" is perfect..."it's time for the jedi to end"?

The "last jedi"?

...you can literally make the jump that the entire movie could be about destroying the two old religions...and I could spin volumes about why that makes sense...

...which is why I give little chance that that's what there gonna do.

Aren't women just humans that could be full on evil just as easily as men? That's the world if we're equal (spoiler alert: we are). It shouldn't be "tough;" it should be that people aren't perfect.

absolutely, and the same thing could be said if it wasn't known that Anakin would turn to the dark side

and you could position it that if Rey turns to the dark side that is her choice, etc. and thus empowering, but I don't think people would see it that way ... more likely you'd see more of the complaining that a "good" woman can't get ahead - that is, all strong women are "nasty" and evil, etc.

supposedly they are designed to be more stable than the old AT-ATs ... and someone pointed out that they have those jagged edges on their forearm area which could be designed to cut cords that are being wrapped around them (e.g., the trick they used on Hoth on the AT-ATs won't work on them)

Did you notice the tiny AT-ATs in the shot?

Who's funding these guys?!?

I think the shades of grey for the Jedi is very plausible. They've been setting it up in all their other, lesser media forms. Like in the cartoon Rebels there is a force being, Bindu, who is neither light nor dark.

And yes, I know that is a cartoon and not the movies, but Lucasfilm has been working very hard to make all the new mediums into one solid, connected universe whether they be cartoons, movies, comics, books or video games.

It looks like they have something on the legs to saw the cables of any snow speeder that is trying to trip them up.

Nice, so the bad guys do learn!

right, but there is a theory that the helmet is more than that - that it allows him to tap into the dark side more... that without it, there is a blockage preventing him from accessing it as fully (not saying I agree with it)

I had read that. I kind of thought it was ridiculous. If anything I think the writers/director might have just been using it as a symbol. I doubt that the helmet itself is whispering to him to do dark things. He does kill Han Solo while not wearing the helmet.

Lol, I was just taking the argument to the extreme, but how would you feel about your son being a Sith Lord? Or, a Jedi Master?

well, Sith Lord I would not be a fan of .... jedi Master would probably depend on the teaching and where they are in the process of the council, etc.

guess the issues is that you have had mutliple male central figures (some turned "bad", some stayed "good", etc.) and the first time it is a woman that is the focus and she winds up being evil, etc. Plus you have Phasma as the "evil female"

I spent so many hours play Disney Infinity Star Wars trying to wrap the bloody cord around the AT-AT legs...at least we no the new ones won't be in an Infinity game, so no more time wasted trying to defeat them.

And that's what sucks about being a woman...especially a feminine one. Now I'm sad thinking about SW...

Now, those At-Ats...the speeders with the red tralls. Looks awesome. I am overall really excited about this film. I think it could be the most subtle and the most visually interesting we've seen since the original/Empire.

The idea of the Gray Jedi is definitely going to play a role, I think - I mean, there is a reason Rey wears gray (vs Luke wearing white in A New Hope and then black in Jedi)

... and they are definitely open to using things mentioned in the cartoons and other elements that considered cannon - I mean, you had the Guardians of the Whills in Rogue One so they have already brought that concept into the films

We can dream together @lockedoutlogic. If they are both destroyed, balance could be re-established within the force.

Never gonna happen. The "good guys" have to win.

don't disagree with any of that .... I think it is just hard when she is the first woman of focus really for Star Wars ... down the line I think you could do it though

I definitely think "I don't think disney wants the girls to be bad because of how they've marketed to moms/daughters" (paraphrased) to be 100% a gender stereotype/issue...

Very "pearl clutching" in my corner...but I've been wrong before.

If they made Rey bad...or corruptable...it would give Star Wars an emotional depth not seen since the last 10 minutes of empire...and I'd stand and cheer...

Abrams did nothing for depth...just an intro...they need depth.

It also would be so refreshing to do a twist that people would think about...not "Rey finds herself"

maybe I am too optimistic but I do think a lot of this (even if you take into account the prequels) is building towards the concept that the Jedi aren't 100% good (clearly showing power corrupts no matter who you are) so I think the ending will be that it is more about being yourself and knowing "right" from "wrong" more than "good guys vs bad guys"

That'd fantastic. I haven't given up hope...but man, we can we talk about the lack of costumes? We need some species in this trilogy and some "extra" makeup.

I just think Disney would fear those doing the "pearl clutching" would be very vocal and they want to avoid that ... but the trailer does seem to think Rey wants to question things and what is her role and and think Luke has learned that you can't just accept the teaching of the old ways as is - so I think there will be a lot of "rey going through her rebelous phase" and, as you say "finding herself" - but I would be SHOCKED if she winds up a Sith/truly a bad gal by the end

I think ultimately it's gonna be somehow skywalker vanquishing evil...and going out...and probably a barbecue on endor...

...it just too much to ask for the ultimately predictable Hollywood movie house to break their mold...

I said this before...but if they were gonna do a protracted swan song...I really wish he had shot it in 99 when they all resembled themselves...not the artists formerly known we got.

haha, I didn't really think of this the first (several) times I watched the trailer but after you made that comment I looked for it more. I did think the outfit/coat that Leia is wearing when the doors are closing at the base on Crait seems to have a very interesting shape to it - especially the collar. It's not an exciting color or anything but appears to be interesting

Also remember that this trailer didn't show any of the casino planet where Benecio Del Toro's character is - which is supposed to be a place of nothing but opulence and people rich enough to just separate themselves from the conflicts of the galaxy .... I suspect those scenes will be full of amazing costumes and the like

See now...you were carrying the banner into battle..

...and you dropped it so you could pick up an issue of vanity fair with all of Natalie portman's near career killing garb...tssk tssk...

For a cosplayer? No! I have a military jacket with a similar collar that came from J. Crew or BR. Its part of what my dad calls my "Audrey Hepburn joins the Stasi" winter gear. You could buy something similar a lot of places...but, but, but...

:love::love::love::love:

You totally made me smile with that realization...I still can't wait for the SWL cantina (take my money WDW SW hotel!). No one can break this fan girl's heart for long...although the prequels tried. I am super stoked about that part of the new movie, and the hardware, and the story won't be terrible, so I'm going back to my happy nerd place riding At-ats while killing Ewoks into the sunset.
