You already got a lot of good answers, but I'd add another one: self fulfilling prophecy.
We WDW planners are really strange people, we can go great lenght to be sure to have our perfect vacation. I always cause astonishment when I tell someone what was happening just a few years ago with Cinderella Breakfast reservations. And still, when I tell people to book Be Our Guest or O'ahna 190 days in advance they don't believe me.
So now that online booking made it easier, people can start walking a reservation weeks in advance. It would probably not be required but you never know. This but you never know attitude is then actually causing availability problems and causing more people start walking because you never know. Often, we DVC members are our own worst enemies.
TRUTH.

I have seen people ask about walking Saratoga. And the day walking Saratoga becomes essential, we need to all give up.

Ha Ha, and Bravo! Best answer yet :) And yup, I’m a crazy Type A planner, thus the additional stress when I realize I’m now behind the eight ball (oftentimes because I can’t get family or friends to commit this far in advance LOL). Of course my vacation won’t be “ruined” if we can’t get the BW View but I’m kicking myself that I didn’t start a few weeks ago. Because you never know......!

So as anticipated haven’t been able to get in at 8:00 am over past 4 days to start a walk. Will keep trying as I can but may not be able to do so every day. I do have a question however. Once it gets to the actual week I’m looking for (mid November 2020). If I’m able to get most of the days except for 1-2 dates is it better to book the Boardwalk view for those dates, and keep stalking as I can for the missing day or two (and/or go on DVC waitlist for those 1-2 days)?

Or is it better to just book Garden/Pool view for the full week desired and go on the DVC waitlist for the entire week for Boardwalk View? Not sure that it makes any difference but I won’t have enough points to book both of those options so any tips/strategies appreciated 😊

A week long waitlist is basically doom. Are you okay maybe switching rooms? If not, book P/G but know that is likely what you will get.

Ha ha, OK good to know!

Interestingly the 2 BR BW View rooms have been opening up day by day behind “Day One“ since I’ve been tracking it. Meaning there are currently 5-6 consecutive days open for a 2BR Boardwalk view in mid-October as of right now. So maybe I’ll get lucky in Nov and be able to grab enough days. I think if I can get at least 4-5 nights @ BWV with that view I would consider switching rooms or possibly splitting our stay and doing a couple of nights over at an MK resort.

I'd start out "following behind" for the BW view if I didn't get it right away.

The P/ G villas won't fill for several months so you have some time to waitlist and stalk for any missing nights. You can always cancel the BW nights and book the whole time in a P/G villa if you later decide you don't want to risk a move.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much, that’s kind of the plan I was thinking of, so glad to know I’m not off base!

Any idea how soon I need to start worrying about the P/G Villas booking up for mid-Nov time frame?

And just to clarify, it makes no sense for me to “follow behind” until I actually get to the dates I want correct? Meaning there’s no point in me booking the 5 nights that are available now because I can’t “walk” it with the first day always missing, correct?

I’m not giving up on still trying to start a walk on mornings that I can be on at 8:00 but just want to make sure I’m not missing something.

    Thanks again!

Correct. You can't walk if the way ahead is blocked.

You can use skier-pete's and Bing Showei's work to make your guess on that.

Maybe not too long, though. Looks like even the P/G villas go pretty fast for early November. Hope you can squeeze in to start your walk soon.

Super helpful, thanks! Will see what I can pick up “following behind” and then will have to make a gametime decision within a few weeks I guess. Wow!

For those who were following my post last week - just an update that I actually got my “toe in” this morning right at 8 AM. So now have started a 7-day walk to get into my November 2020 dates (2 BR, BW View). Yay!

Interestingly, I tried every day except one over the past week by clicking on search exactly at 8 AM (according to my iPhone). The BW View did actually show as available on a couple of occasions, but when I clicked “continue” it gave me a message saying I was outside of my dates. So this morning I decided to wait an extra few seconds or so before clicking continue and it worked. Not sure if that was just a lucky fluke or if for some reason Disney‘s 8 AM is a few seconds behind my iPhone’s 8 AM. In any case, for those who are stalking to try to start a walk, persistence sometimes does pay off!

Of course I’d also love to grab a BW View studio as well as we may have a large group but I’m not expecting miracles :) Thanks again everyone for all of the great tips!

I have been having the same issue with the web site saying I am outside my window when I click right at 8am. This never use to happen, but not has happened to me 2-3 times. Guess I will have to wait a second or two before trying to book.

Thanks, glad I am not crazy! The day it worked for me as best I can recall I clicked on the dates right at 8 AM and then when it showed that the BW View was available I waited a couple of seconds. Good luck!

Seeing your struggle so far in advance, makes me realize what a disadvantage west coast bookers are at. I couldn't imagine getting up at 5AM for as many days as you had to play roulette at 8AM ET. I'd pry start walking as far out as i possibly could just so I'd only have to get up 1 time at 5AM hopefully.

I can’t even imagine doing that every day at 5 AM!
