Stupid question about capacity....

I apologize that I am asking such a question in advance. Please bear in mind its only a question that I would like to know about.

Let's say Beach Club is booked for points to capacity for tomorrow night. But, they have rooms available for cash purchase with the 25% member discount. Aside from the obvious, why won't they let DVC members book those rooms available for cash with our points? Wouldn't that be better than not having the rooms booked at all?

most of the time - they will. If they have rooms for 25% off.

those are DVC rooms - not CRO.

CRO would only use their current discount. Now sometimes the CRO discount is bigger than 25% - so I don't know how that effects things.

now if you are seeing cash rooms on the disney internet - these are NOT dvc rooms. these are either the 5% that DVD kepts for maintence, or a member traded out and CRO gets these to make the money that DVC needs to continue those programs.

That's correct. If there are 25%DVC cash discount rooms, you can also get those same rooms for points, but if they are CRO rooms, they are not available for point stays. The reason is that they are points for the resort that have already been used. SOmeone has exchanged them for a cruise or some other "Disney collection" exchange. If you would be able to book those rooms on points, the resort would be over their point capacity...if that makes any sense. CRO needs to recoup the cost of the exchange...they are THIER rooms, and no longer belong to DVC inventory.

We recently tried adding on a night to our VWL stay while we were there. When I called 2-3 days ahead of time (yeah, we do things at the last minute!), MS told me to try again later in the week. It wasn't until Thursday (originally scheduled to check out on Friday) that I was able to confirm the room (on points) for Friday night.

I'm thinking tht MS knew that there were rooms available through CRO, but they had to wait until the last minute to be able to give it to us for points.

I guess when they finally realized that they weren't going to fill the room on cash, they figured points were better than nothing!
