Take-out boxes at Polite Pig/Flame Tree?

I arrive very early into Orlando after a red eye flight on check in date and my plan is the head to AK for the day and leave mid- to late afternoon when (hopefully) my villa will be ready. I’m thinking it will be too early for dinner, so was thinking maybe I would pick up a quick service bbq meal at one of the referenced restaurants and take it back to the villa to eat later while resting for the next day. (I’m on DDP.). Do these restaurants package for take out ( as opposed to eating it there) or do I need to bring some plastic bags to package it up to take back? Thanks!

I have gotten food to go at Polite Pig but have not tried it at Flame Tree.

Polite Pig is not a Disney restaurant, and it's not in a park, so I would assume it operates differently than Flame Tree and may be able to accommodate to-go orders easier.

We have done takeout from The Polite Pig a number of times and it’s no problem. Not sure about Flame Tree, but I can’t imagine it would be a problem.

Yeah, are you really considering getting to The Polite Pig after a redeye flight and extended morning+ in a park?

I’m staying at SSR so i think it would be easy to take a bus from AK to DS, pick up dinner and then go back to SSR either in the boat or the walking trail—so yes. I had a red eye last October, was up all day with friends and got to bed maybe at midnight and I was fine. So I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think that coming back around 3-4 (when hopefully villa is ready) would be worse.

That's up to you. It seems to me, though, that this makes an unnecessarily long day: redeye flight to resort to park to resort to DS to resort.

Flame Tree will NOT have the ability to box up your meal, so if you decide to get food in the park, you'll need some kind of containers to put it into.

Guess you have to decide which is the more inconvenient: containers or an extra trip over to DS.

Thanks—that was my original inquiry—so will probably throw some gallon sized bags and a plastic shopping bag in my backpack in case I choose that option!

Since when? In January, they had the same kind of to go cardboard boxes that The Mara at Animal Kingdom Lodge has.

In my experience, they have these boxes but they will hand them to you. You can't order it "to go" and have it come in the boxes, if that makes sense. So OP could order the food from Flame Tree and package it up themselves before leaving. No guarantees what they order will properly fit in the box.

I also think going to the Polite Pig would be inefficient and make for a long commute after an already long day. To bus to SSR and exit at Congress Park, its quite a long walk over to Polite Pig from there. And while Polite Pig is good, I frankly don't find it worth going that much out of my way for.

OP, why not have lunch at Flame Tree and just eat it there during your day there? And/or grab a meal at the Mara at AKL later on? We thought the food at the Mara was very good. Boma is always an option as well!

I have a later breakfast planned at Tusker. Was planning to not get more than a snack during the day at AK. I am not staying at AKL--I'm staying at SSR. So Polite Pig is not that far out of the way even if I leave AK before 4--I'm sure staying till 4 and when they start park to DS bus will be do-able--otherwise I am coming prepared for FlameTree. Thanks!

Gotcha, that makes sense. I'm not sure where I got AKL from... must have been reading too many threads too fast! lol!

You may consider taking the bus to the springs AKA Carriage house or check in walking through the Carriage house to the Boat dock -- the boat runs very well-- it will dock by Starbucks so you will still need to walk but a lot less than using the walking trail. The closest you will get is by going to another resort and taking the bus to DS as Polite Pig is very close off the bus and you can than take the boat. Either way it will be a bit of an adventure but I personally do not mind them sometimes.

Polite Pig has always asked me if my order was to go or dine in, so they must do a lot of to go orders.

On solo trips I dont mind little excursions for something I want so I think Polite Pig is doable. Now if I went to the villa and then wanted to go out I would never do it lol.

Update==when I checked in at 6 a.m. my villa was ready! So I went and got settled and then took off the AK until about 2 p.m.—went back to the villa and slept a couple of hours then went over to Disney Springs and Polite Pig. I intended to eat in but there was a mix up and my food came in to go boxes—LOL. Which was good because I had a lot of leftovers so was ready to go after eating my fill in the restaurant (and drinking my Mule!). This was a fabulous deal on the DDP—a full meal (I upgraded one side from slaw to cauliflower for an extra $4) and had two more meals from the leftovers!
