Nice.

I'm still waiting on the other mud holes to finish so they can get started on mine. It rained this morning and we are forecast to get 3 more inches of rain by Friday.

On the lighter side of the news...

Thousands of gallons of perfectly good drinking water, soon to wasted in oversized bath tub.

I hope you have an adequate sunscreen plan, tiggerdad. :cool2:

Back in the day when I was a lifeguard (yeah, I was sorta skinny once and tan) Hawaiian Tropic was the oil of choice (no creams back then - this was 1980). Knowing that your pool will create LOTS of new friends for your kids, you should have some 5-gallon buckets of SPF 50, SPF 30, and for the frequent visitors, SPF 10-15 around late July through Labor Day. Encourage your guests to apply sunscreen liberally to avoid "the burn".

I recall that our flip flops created "racing stripes" across the tops of our feet. By the end of summer, I was using baby oil only. Those. Were. The. Days. Knock on wood, I have not paid for it (yet) with melanoma or other skin conditions.

Have fun and do a cannonball for me. Tomorrow's forecast is for the warmest day of the year thus far (89F) and I am not far from you. Time to lay in a base layer of tan and get ready for the summer.

Have fun!

What you can't see to the left is where I decimated my yard with tractor putting sand in it. I had to get it together this weekend since I don't think I'm off but one day between now and GSP. I gotta keep that day open for getting camper and truck ready.

I got burnt putting it together.

I'll put the sunblock in a pump up sprayer and hose everyone down.

The college football world was buzzing after Alabama's spring football scrimmage earlier this month when Coach Saban announced at the press conference after that he was going to undergo hip replacement surgery soon. Since he coaches the DB's on defense, he said he could still cover our returning best WR but he didn't want to coach just 1-2 more years - he was planning to go much longer (a collective cry went out across the universe-I felt the Force move).

He was at church yesterday morning with Miss Terry (although I was way on the other side and we give him and her their space like any other parishoner) but he reportedly was back at the office the next day (Tuesday) after his Monday surgery last week. Naturally, the rest of the SEC was concerned and shared their good wishes for his full recovery:

Zoom out full screen for the full effect. You ACC, B12, and B1 fans will particularly enjoy this.

He looked ornery yesterday morning at church so the rest of college football should be VERY worried! :sad2:

PS - I'm going to have another Little Debbie (Coach's secret snack) in his honor.

PPS - ".... 3pm salsa dancing lesson .... " :rotfl2:

Two people at work (one in their 30s, another a bit older than me) had their hips replaced and both said they were up and going in a few days. The 30 year old was back at work in 4 days. They told him to use a walker the first week, but that lasted until noon the first day.

I'm having an MRI on my right one next Monday to see how close I am to getting it replaced. The injection last month lasted less than 2 weeks and they won't do another this soon. They told me 2 years ago that I would have both hips replaced within 10 years. I was hoping to put it off a little longer.

Put the camper back to bed until GSP. Normally I'm out somewhere every 2-3 weeks, but I have too much going on in May. Once we get back from GSP, we will be back on track.

Third week of June is Indy. July 4th will be at the Casino Queen, right across the river from the Gateway Arch and 3 nights of fireworks.

I remain utterly jealous of your southerners that get such a longer season! We've had glimpses of spring here and there, but it hasn't taken hold yet. Right now, it's 41 and the 2 week forecast barely has us breaking 60! We're 24 days out from our first trip of the season. I'm really hoping we see a shift soon!

Don't be jealous, Marty.

We get the tornadoes and hurricanes to more than offset the benefits of the warmer weather.

Although the college kids in town this past weekend bought all the beer and ice at the 7-11 near my house (not good) to take to the lakes and rivers around town this past weekend. It was sunny and warm and really nice Saturday and Sunday. And I'm sure they took their books and notes to study since this week is exam week in town and next weekend we'll have all the moms and dads in town (and unfamiliar with the roads) for the graduation ceremonies.

Then everybody leaves for about three weeks (until summer school starts after Memorial Day) which is the best time of the year (think "least crowded" at Magic Kingdom) and "easier to get a table at Be Our Guest". Summer school picks up a little bit but the first weekend of August is when the kids start coming back for the fall semester.

The weekend before fall semester starts there are parties all over town and some of the neighbor kids invite me (the crazy old guy) and us locals to party with them.

By the way, when are you coming down? popcorn:: When will the Gulf State DIS Meet fit your family calendar? I've kinda stuck my neck out fer ya with the Membership Committee and some of the folks on there (Teamubr, SouthAlabama5er :rolleyes1) are tough old birds ....

:laughing::lmao::rotfl2:

I didn't make the "old birds"!

You're still a youngster, dude. You AND Randy. But I am casting Randy as the virtuous, noble, heroic, tough-but-principled committee member .....

..... as opposed to Teamubr whom I have cast as the grumpy, negative Nelly, can-be-bought committee member.

Naturally, I am but your humble narrator floating above the fray stirring the pot while looking forward to the next 30-days in a passive-aggressive sort of way. :teeth:

Ed

PS - that's my story at least until Jim shows up ......

PPS - we may have to divert this conversation back the the GSP 4 thread

PPPS - seriously, Marty, "when?" is the question.

Everybody has a price. And I prefer to call it "realism", not negative. :D

I think we jumped off those rails too far back.

But most of us are inside 4 weeks.

I am honored to have earned the endorsement of Bama Ed!

Seriously, though, I hope to make it happen at some point. The Gulf is way too far for a weekend trip, and the ever-evolving commitments of the kids makes longer destinations increasingly difficult.

That said, I have my eyes focused on the dream of a possible return to the fort in roughly 475 days (not that I'm counting or anything), but a lot of that has to do with final decisions we make regarding whether or not to keep the camper! Should that work out, perhaps the fam (or at least a portion thereof) might be able to take an extra day along the way to say hello!

So we have returned home from our camping trip. Left yesterday at 5am EDT, and drove the 603 miles home, getting in at 5pm. The campground is in the Central time zone, and of course makes coming home so much fun losing an hour. Long day on the road, but made it safely. Have to repack and organize trailer for GSP. Have to work on the truck this weekend.
I will work on getting a few more pictures up as well as highlighting the week over in the Foolish Mortals thread.
