Thanks! I'm enjoying the intoxicating beginner gains. Might have looked up the course maps for all the races, out of curiosity only...
It took me years before I even looked at a marathon training plan and then years after looking at the plan before I decided I actually wanted to run the marathon. The marathon was incredibly difficult, yet I also had a great experience, a lot of fun during it, and ultimately found it to be incredibly rewarding. But at the same time, I fully acknowledge that it took me years to even reach a point where I wanted to attempt the marathon and a few months after that to make peace with what happens if I didn't finish it. Happily, I finished it with and enjoyed it so much that I'm running Dopey for the 2nd time in January 2020. At the same time, I also strive to be honest with runners considering the marathon. My first half marathon might as well be titled "How to Successfully Finish a Half Marathon and Fail Spectacularly in That Pursuit At The Same Time in the Same Race." I enjoyed my first marathon so much more in part because I did it on my terms when I wanted to.

Running definitely isn’t easy. That’s why I say it is 90% mental and 10% physical. Your body can handle whatever your mind throws at it. It’s often times the brain that gives up way before the body does. And yes, the marathon was the hardest thing I ever did mentally as well. That’s why I say it changed my life because in that 5 hours it took for my first marathon I learned more about myself than I ever had in counseling or anything else I had ever done.
Funny you should say that. The night before the marathon I listened to a podcast interview with U.S. Olympian Jared Ward where he addressed that very same thing. Your mind will give out before your body does. It helped me that next day for when the difficulties came. I didn't know what they would feel like, but I knew they would come so when they came I was prepared for them. I would either take the advice of the luggage droid on Star Tours and "clear the thought, clear the bag" or recite one of my rotating mantras. And in a worst case scenario that I did not need to use, I had a list of mantras printed out in a ziploc baggie in my pocket to pull just in case. I was determined to finish that race no matter what.

QOTD: What is your next big running goal to accomplish?
The more I think about this, the more I begin to realize that I enjoy running and races a lot more when I do not set goals beyond finish the race. Don't get me wrong as setting goals is important to success. I just find that in running goals, I tend to beat myself up over running goals not met and feel like I failed even though reality says something very different. If I dreamed of a certain time and failed to achieve that time, but still finished the race and gained invaluable insight into helping me finish my next goal race, did I really fail? No, so why frustrate myself into feeling like I did?

ATTQOTD: Running goals-I think I'm ready to do a full marathon. I never really wanted to commit to the training time so I've stuck to half marathons. But I think I'm ready to make the jump. I'm semi considering registering for the WDW marathon. The training schedule perfectly lines up with the Wine and Dine half. Now I just need to decide if I want to spend the money to go. I'm not as motivated to run a full here in Dallas. Can't imagine why...

@jennamfeo looks like I’ve never added me name to this list. Is this a list of states that we’ve ran races in or a list of states we’ve ran in at all?

If it’s that we’ve ran races in than my are PA, NJ, & FL. If it’s ran in at all, the. I have a few more states to add.

I feel like we decided that it's any state you have ran at least 1 mile in. So add them on!

Same here! "Semi considering registering for the WDW marathon" is very accurate description of what I am doing. I really have no desire to run a full locally, but at WDW...now that is a different story!
