This Sparks Joy! A Feb/Mar 2019 Birthday Trip NEW 7/6 x2 THE END of an Amazing Healing Trip!!

Yeah I wasn't sure what they could give us that we haven't tried before but it was nice to just get a bite of everything without getting the full portion. For that reason alone I think the tour was worth it!

I can totally see that, and the inside information and perspective is always worth the tour prices.
Haha of course, we are the guinea pigs but we have to pay to be guinea pigs hahaha.
Hah, something is definitely wrong with this picture.

Day 8 Part 2: Yachtsman Steak and DHS After Hours!

After our tasty VIP tour and last ride at MK on 7DMT we headed out of the park back to the Poly. On the way out I spotted the brand new Aladdin ears so I bought two. However I decided that Disney ears are not the most comfortable on my head so I gave one away and the other one is used as props when my nieces come over, LOL. They are super pretty though.

We went to the Lava pool to cool off a bit. We wanted to go to the quiet pool but there were no seats there and although it was also crowded at the LAVA pool there was more available space.

After a few hours at the pool and relaxing in the room we got ready and headed out to the Yacht Club for our dinner at...Yachtsman Steakhouse! An old-time favorite.

We have our favorite server, David, who has been our friend for years now. He was nice enough to get me a Happy Birthday menu!

He also got me a gift, which is this cute little Japanese pouch (his wife is Japanese), and in it was a special candle that you light for your loved ones who have passed. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gift!

First up, our the wonderful pull apart onion rolls. Of course we already ate one each when I remembered to take the picture. You can see Steve's half eaten one on his bread plate! I love the roasted garlic and the soft butter and I honestly spread them both on the bread.

Steve got a glass of wine, and I went with a more fun cocktail...the magical star. I don't normally order so much sweet but once in a while I like to feel like I'm 21 again and this is the perfect drink for it.

This is actually the older presentation, I think they changed it to no be served in a cast iron skillet because it was overcooking the meats a bit so I think now it's just served on a platter. Ours was perfectly medium rare though, so I guess it depends on how much they heat the skillet and how much the chef undercooks it to finish on the platter.

It was a wonderful dinner and it was nice catching up with David. We see him a few times a year when we dine at Yachtsman, although not sure how it will be this year since Yachtsman is not on the list of initial opening restaurants. Maybe the NBA has it all to themselves. 😆

We could not eat dessert because we were too full but David always gets me a little somethin' somethin'

A couple of macarons and some fruity chocolate, just the right amount of sweet!

Here's us and our server, David. I hope he's doing well. Yachtsman is not on the list of restaurants that will be opening when Disney opens in July. I guess the NBA has taken over the Yacht Club. 🏀

We left Yachtsman but we didn't have to go far because we had a DISmeet with Renee @ArielSRL in the lobby of the Yacht Club! We met up with her for the first time, and also met with her DH Chad and her cute sons Will and AJ. It was so nice finally meeting in person! We would get to hang out a lot later during our Epic Trip and also this past January.

We made a beeline for Toy Story Land but of course that's what everyone else was doing. We waited about 35 minutes for the first time. It subsequently got shorter and shorter and we ended up going on it 4 times.

So we spent pretty much the entire time in Toy Story Land. We went on Slinky Dog 4 times and then Toy Story Mania a couple of times and before you knew it, the event was over, LOL. Each time we went on Slinky there was a line, however it did get progressively shorter although it was almost 30 minutes each time. So it's not a super short wait but I guess much better than waiting in the heat for hours. So aside from Toy Story Land we did not get to venture elsewhere. We wanted to ride Slinky Dog as may times as possible so we made the decision to use up most of the time there.

So overall I would say DHS After Hours is worth it if you really want to ride Slinky Dog and were not able to get a FP. You do still end up waiting and it takes up a lot of time. If we only did Slinky once or twice we would have time to ride every other ride in DHS. Remember though, that this was before Galaxy's Edge and the new MMRR ride. If they include those in future After Hours they would probably have to extend the time because 2.5 hours is certainly not enough for all the rides in DHS now!

Coming up...the last day and finally the end of this TR!!

Oh my goodness … what I would give to be able to dine at Yachtsman tonight and then ride Slinky Dog over and over. Those onion rolls. If open to the NBA, hope they're enjoying it. Did you see one player plans to turn his room at YC into a recording studio? David is definitely a gem of a server. I think about him and other servers (ahem, bartenders :rolleyes1) I've gotten to know over the years and I really hope they're all doing well. I feel really torn about going back. On the one hand, I miss the magic and I want to support (tip) the heck out of these people but on the other I'm not sure I'm personally comfortable returning yet.

Day 9: The Last Day of Joy

It was the last day of what had been an immensely healing and happy trip. It was so sad to be leaving the bubble but we still had an almost full day at AK. We packed up our stuff at the Poly and had bell services hold it and hopped on a bus to AK.

And for my dessert, the passion fruit tapioca with citrus and chocolate. It is amazing. I love it! The tapioca part is almost like a pudding or a passion fruit curd, and it's topped with cream and chocolate shavings. Steve's dessert was I think a guava mousse. It definitely wasn't as good as mine but it's a really nicely presented dessert with tropical flavors.

As a parting gift we usually get the Tiffin's chocolates. It's very good quality chocolate, yum!

Sadly after our late lunch it was time to head back to the Poly for our ride on ME.

I was checking our flight all day and flights were being cancelled left and right because of a snow storm back home. But our flight said it was on time so we decided to head to the airport.

It was sad to go home but I left feeling very happy and fulfilled. It's like Disney has somehow filled the hole in my life with all things good!

Bye Disney!
This trip last February was the start of another year of amazing trips, beginning with this one, followed by our Epic DISboards Girls Trip, two trips for Galaxy's Edge previews, and finally getting Chunky at the Food and Wine festival.

We had an amazing time on this trip, and goes to show that Disney does have a lot of healing powers, LOL. :cloud9:

Of course when we landed back in New Jersey, there was 5 inches of snow on the ground. In fact I thought our flight would be cancelled but it was not, it literally was the only flight to leave and arrive ON TIME. Hahaha.

Next up is my last trip report before COVID shut down the world! I will be sure to link that trip report here.

THANK YOU FOR READING!

THE END!

I went with a more fun cocktail...the magical star. I don't normally order so much sweet but once in a while I like to feel like I'm 21 again and this is the perfect drink for it.
LOL, I may or may not have had several of these on our trip in December! Once I found out alcohol was included on the dining plan, even at breakfast, this became my go-to!

Such a cute pic, and in a fun spot!! I haven't seen any photographers over there before!

I'm so glad that this was a therapeutic trip for you when you needed it most!!! :) Looking forward to reading about your trip before the world turned upside down!!

I have trouble wearing ears also. I don't think my head is that large, they're just so uncomfortable after a short time.

How fun that you able to get your favorite server at Yachtsman! Your meal looked outstanding!

Four rides on SDD sounds like a perfect way to use your time.

All your character meet photos turned out really cute!

I'm glad this trip was beneficial to your healing. Disney has that affect on many of us.

He also got me a gift, which is this cute little Japanese pouch (his wife is Japanese), and in it was a special candle that you light for your loved ones who have passed. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gift!
Wow. What an incredibly thoughtful and sweet gift. :goodvibes

Here's us and our server, David. I hope he's doing well. Yachtsman is not on the list of restaurants that will be opening when Disney opens in July.
I hope so, too. I've worried a lot about the CMs :(

It was sad to go home but I left feeling very happy and fulfilled. It's like Disney has somehow filled the hole in my life with all things good!
I'm so glad! Sounds like the trip was just the therapy you needed to begin to heal :wizard:

We had an amazing time on this trip, and goes to show that Disney does have a lot of healing powers, LOL. :cloud9:
It sure does!!!

Thanks for sharing your special trip with us!

However I decided that Disney ears are not the most comfortable on my head
They really aren't (so I thought), but maybe some are more comfy than others?
It's like you're spying on us!
He was nice enough to get me a Happy Birthday menu!
:)
He also got me a gift, which is this cute little Japanese pouch (his wife is Japanese), and in it was a special candle that you light for your loved ones who have passed. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gift!
Oh! That's really nice! Very thoughtful of him.
I don't normally order so much sweet but once in a while I like to feel like I'm 21 again
It's nice to go back in time 4 years.
I believe this one was a guava sorbet.
That sounds interesting. How was it?
And the wonderful piece de resistance...the porterhouse, complete with bone marrow.
Wow!
I think they changed it to no be served in a cast iron skillet because it was overcooking the meats a bit
That makes sense. Especially if you don't tackle it immediately.
We could not eat dessert because we were too full but David always gets me a little somethin' somethin'

Just the right amount of goodness there. And another Happy Birthday to you. :)
we didn't have to go far because we had a DISmeet with Renee @ArielSRL
Nice!
We were headed to DHS for their After Hours event! Although Steve was rather tired and I think he could have done without the late night activity.
Steve's a trooper.
We waited about 35 minutes for the first time. It subsequently got shorter and shorter and we ended up going on it 4 times.
 Got your fill? Or would you have gone more?
Steve is "voguing" here, isn't he? Getting his inner Madonna out.
I wonder if this is what it will look like with the new COVID rules.
We went on Slinky Dog 4 times and then Toy Story Mania a couple of times and before you knew it, the event was over, LOL.
You kept to the one area! Were you tempted to go over and do RnR or ToT?
what had been an immensely healing and happy trip.
We saw this photo op over by the entrance to Pandora:

ACtC-3f1ZH8bUr4NNbGYbqdIM5jIjeYxFwTtKQ6TUwTk5M1EvmOaDX0cNZyWgbbkk3M8vrhACq__wCcI1XOKSngfwUco_6f2P0uOeSsWL-urtfCpcEbdEFTlwkztqCUrDne_Y6cR-iAt45Bq58t6SuzCA6DrAg=w440-h660-no
I'm trying to remember if I've seen that. Is it on the left as you go towards Pandora, maybe near Tiffins? (but on the other side of the path?)
I ordered a kid's chicken bowl with the charred green onion vinaigrette and it was delicious!
Looks good. :)
You sure look happy! :goodvibes
I ventured into Dinoland for the first time in ages.
I get that. I usually go to Dinosaur and that's about it... and even then, usually only if I'm with someone (my kids) who wants to "do it all".
I only managed to meet with Scrooge and Launchpad McQueen, but they were so fun!
Never even seen either of them.
Launchpad decided we needed to dance, and then we had to fly!
I did get this shot of the lion though! He's hard to capture at times.
::yes::
We ended with this photopass when we exited the safari:

Cool little shot. Like the backdrop.
Here is the included bread service:

That looks good!
And I got the mushroom bisque.
mmm... sounds heavenly.
And my favorite grilled octopus. It's so yummy!
::yes:: Knew that was your favourite. Along with...
And for my dessert, the passion fruit tapioca with citrus and chocolate. It is amazing. I love it!
... this one. Believe you declared this to be the best dessert on property.
flights were being cancelled left and right because of a snow storm back home. But our flight said it was on time
Nooooooo....
It was sad to go home but I left feeling very happy and fulfilled.
We had an amazing time on this trip, and goes to show that Disney does have a lot of healing powers
I'm glad you were able to find comfort and happiness in your trip.
Thank you everyone for reading this TR!
Thanks for writing! Can't wait for the next one!

Lots of Slinky to keep you happy on that visit!! :goodvibes and.... yes, Disney can make a frown turn upside down. Yachtsman has been on my list for a very long time. If I ever get there, I'll be sure to ask for David. Lovely TR, Sy-Lynn. I'll check back to see a link. :)

On the way out I spotted the brand new Aladdin ears so I bought two. However I decided that Disney ears are not the most comfortable on my head

I think this is why i don't wear ears all that much. They are uncomfortable and don't provide any shade like a ball cap or other headgear.

we got ready and headed out to the Yacht Club for our dinner at...Yachtsman Steakhouse!

Yummmm!

First up, our the wonderful pull apart onion rolls. Of course we already ate one each when I remembered to take the picture. You can see Steve's half eaten one on his bread plate! I love the roasted garlic and the soft butter and I honestly spread them both on the bread.

I do too! So yummy!

We decided to share a starter and the porterhouse. For a starter we got the wedge salad which had a spicy blue cheese dressing.

Now I want a wedge salad. I shall have to add that to the dinner rotation.

And the wonderful piece de resistance...the porterhouse, complete with bone marrow.

Interesting how they present it all carved up and such. When we split the Ribeye, they brought it to us cut in half and each with our own plate with steak and potatoes.

I can see why. I woukd hate for it to keep on cooking and get over done. Whenever we do Teppanyaki, I get it rare because the pieces are so small and they keep cooking after they put them on your plate. By the time I'm finishing they are almost medium. Now I want Teppanyaki, but we don't have indoor dining, and besides we still are only doing take out or home cooking.

Yachtsman is not on the list of initial opening restaurants. Maybe the NBA has it all to themselves. 😆

If the players were eating at Yachtsman, I dont think we would be seeing all disgruntled food pictures on Twitter and such.

We could not eat dessert because we were too full but David always gets me a little somethin' somethin'

That's just perfect!

Here's us and our server, David. I hope he's doing well. Yachtsman is not on the list of restaurants that will be opening when Disney opens in July.

I hope that the workers at the signature restaurants are getting decent compensation while they're not employed. Cutting that $600 is a travesty. A good server like David probably easily makes $600 a night in tips!

We made a beeline for Toy Story Land but of course that's what everyone else was doing. We waited about 35 minutes for the first time. It subsequently got shorter and shorter and we ended up going on it 4 times.

I would have gone right for RnRC, then thought about Slinky Dog.

Most of the other rides had very little wait though, so the crowd was definitely centered around Slinky.

Another reason to hit RnRC!

Was this a paid event? Not like a Free DVC Moonlight Magic?

We saw this photo op over by the entrance to Pandora:

You guys look cute, I liked that photo op too!

I ordered a kid's chicken bowl with the charred green onion vinaigrette and it was delicious! We had late lunch ADRs at Tiffin's so this was the perfect size to get just a taste!

That looks like a TON of food!

And now it was our last official Disney meal at one of our favorites, Tiffins!

Someday I will convince Fran to eat there....

And I got the mushroom bisque. It was really good!

If this is on the menu, THAT would do it!

That and the soup were my two appetizers as my "meal"

Sounds like a winner to me!

I hope you have more TRs to finish. I'm running out of material, and I don’t know if DL will even open this year the way California is going.
