So I've always wanted to go to this event and since Universal only seems to really get super creative with HHN I find myself wanting to go more and more every year. The only problem is...I way to scared of just about everything. So i put it to you my fellow Scardycats, what techniques do you use to get through an evening at HHN when it gets a little to intense?

So i had never been to a haunted house in my life and finally made the journey to HHN 3 years ago. I was apprehensive at first but made it through the walking dead house no problem. After that, I've been every year and LOVE going to them now. A couple key things to keep in mind

1. They can't touch. I get the environment itself is scary but theres NOTHING that can happen to you. Once you get over that, it makes it much easier to do it.

2. At first I usually tried to be the last one in the group I'm with (usually 4 total). This kind of does 2 things, one they typically try to get the lead person which also gives you a clue as to where the jump scares are. Also the jump scares are timed to the sound so after a house or two you kind of get the cadence down on how they try to scare you.

3. If you look scared, they will target you. Just gotta roll with the punches. The more timid you look the more they will try to get you riled up. This goes especially for the scare zones.

4. I find that if the IP the house is based on is something i really like the less scared I am. It was actually more fun than scary for AHS houses as i got to see some of my favorite characters come to life. I had a blast going through that.

Its not has bad as you think and after away you really enjoy it. I try to lead the group now after 3 years.

I don't like haunted houses at all, so I don't go. I don't like scary/gory movies (no favorite characters), and nothing would get me to go to HHN! I took my girl scout troop of 14-15 year olds to a local amusement park with haunted houses in October once and had to escort a couple who wanted to go through but were afraid, so I have been through it, but I just don't enjoy it.

I think the scare zones are scarier than the houses, but you could avoid those if you didn't like them. You might also enjoy a behind the scenes tour more than the actual event.

These are all great suggestions. I also don't really like scary movies so I don't really have favorite characters either. However I think having a haunted house themed to iconic films like "The Shining" are so cool. I will definitely do one of the behind the scenes tours one day. Hopefully if I do ever get enough courage to go to an event some of MikeNamez's tips will come in handy. At least we'll get to enjoy Mickey's Not So Scary when we go in October. HHN is still up in the air. :/

I went to my first HHN last year and it was absolutely fantastic. My daughter got through it by burying her face in my back while I got all the scares.

In fact I'm hearing they could be announcing a "Macraven House" in the next week.:scared1:

Inside the houses, it is very loud

Be prepared for loud noises and screams

My friend mac, I love in the houses when you see a character and the lights are flashing fast, and every time they flash the character is so much closer. It's a great affect.

I'm glad you and your daughter loved HHN last year...
Now you have been bitten by that bug, you're gonna be a fan and a repeater for the event.

If you can swing the price (prices aren't posted yet), try to do an Unmasking the Horror tour before your first HHN night. We weren't sure what to expect on our first trip, so we did that.

They take you through a few houses with the lights on. You get to see how those houses are designed. They will show you where many of the scares are and you'll see how they are triggered.

I did HHN once on our honeymoon, and I absolutely hated it because I hate being scared. It was no fun for me!! I've never been tempted to go again until this year with the addition of Stranger Things, but I don't think even that will get me to go again. lol But I love some of the IPs like AHS, so I watch the videos on YouTube! :rotfl2:

I was really afraid to go but DH loves all things horror and I am a fan of special effects makeup so I agreed to go. I just did it like this..two houses, ride or break followed by two houses etc. I am a wimp but DH enjoys every minute. The adrenaline rush required a break here and ther but it was doable and actually enjoyable overall.

Try to go with a group or with at least someone else. Yep, and I never wanted to go first. LOL I'm a weanie too, but it was fun, and some really good costumes. Got a scare a few times, and just had to laugh at someone else that was loud. I agree, if you don't look like you are scared, or care, they tend to leave you alone. Plus, there are places to rest, where they won't bother you. If it is really not your cup of tea, then pass. Not worth being nervous all night.

I really wanted to go to HHN but knew I would be terrified. I went to the public RIP tour. There is an annual pass discount and admission was included in my annual pass also. The tour was perfect - other very nice people. I walked right behind another girl. I tried not to scream at first but found I had much more fun just jumping back and screaming. The scare actors in the houses were gratified to get my reaction too. I wouldn't do it again alone but would love to do the tour with a horror fan friend. The detail and creativity was fantastic. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I'm claustrophobic and i don't do black mazes, dark rooms, etc. How dark are these houses? Are they really tight?

Houses are dark or can be totally dark for one house as one was years back

Conga style lines in the houses

No space between peeps in the line going through the house

They don’t usually pulse the lines

I wouldn’t suggest the houses for folks with claustrophobia or someone who doesn’t like dark rooms......

It does get tight in there too.

I've never been a fan of haunted houses, or horror movies. My consideration for going stems from my immense love of theme parks and the fact that HHN has become the biggest event that Universal has. I'd like to say that I've been at least once. Keep the suggestions coming everyone. I'm sure they will be helpful.

I am the biggest horror wimp! No horror movies for me! Went with the family two years ago as they wanted to, and I actually liked it! It helps that you are in one continuous line in the houses. The ghouls don't follow you- they are at your side. So, I tend to look straight ahead! Going with a group or on a tour makes the event so fun! This will be my third year!! Last year, I even started to look at the details in the houses!
