Universal GAP & hotel choice questions need help ASAP

Taking my 14 year old son (who happens to have autism) on vacation Oct. 9-13. Want to stay on property. Familiar with GAP as we go to Universal each year. All crowd calendars are saying "low" attendance but Im still worried with Oct. school breaks and HHN. Need to choose between CBBR & RPR--RPR would obviously give me the express pass. CBBR has the cool lazy river (he loves a lazy river) and is $400 cheaper. Given that it's Oct and he'll have the GAP do I "need" the EP? Is RPR way more convenient to get to than CBBR (yes, I know about the bus & boat transportation)? Trying to minimize any and all wait times. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Have you looked at room-only rates and buying tickets elsewhere?

Pool hopping is allowed at universal resorts so don't choose a resort based on that.

I have and am shocked that it's actually cheaper as a package, even with tickets from places like Undercover Tourist.
