Validated Resort Parking

Would Disney come up with a pay-first validated parking system for resorts?

Yes, it would require that guests jump through some hoops.

Start with payment at the guard's gate. Thereafter the guest must tap his/her Magic Band periodically to validate the parking and be eligible for a refund. A purchase or meal counts as a validation. There would also be validation stations in ballrooms for use during convention events. Depending on how room door technology works, a guest visiting another guest might be able to re-up his validation by tapping any room door.+

No purchase necessary. Just need to show you were at the resort all they while your car is parked there.

Normally a Magic Band tap will extend free parking for another three hours. There could be some exceptions for example a tap must occur during fireworks at a nearby park.

The final validation is done when exiting and a final receipt is issued there. There would be provision for a semifinal validation if the guest did not have frequent enough Magic Band taps but had paper receipts to fill in the gaps.

Activity at a theme park, as evidenced by Magic Band taps or other conspicuous means, results in the resort parking fee becoming non-refundable unless the guest stays at or was staying at that resort.

(The above is simplified, other details need to be added later)

Well of you want to get technical Disney could come up with whatever system they want. No idea who started that but this is how rumors spread. Someone somewhere will read this and post that Disney is in fact going this route because they read it posted somewhere.
The question is are they going to do this. I’ll be the first to say nope

Sounds like quite a complicated process for a website / app that frequently has issues when people are trying to make fastpasses & ADRs. I want to see them solve those problems before they work on how to get extended free parking for offside visitors.

What would be the purpose of this? Are we helping Disney find more revenue streams and more opportunities for frustration with their IT?

They already don't charge anyone except the actual resort guests, which is completely backwards IMO but that's probably not for this thread. I also think the last thing Disney needs to be doing is encouraging more people to park at their resorts. I've even heard recent reports of people who want to dine without ADRs at certain resorts being turned away and sent to theme park parking (guests wanting to dine at Poly/GF lounges to TTC, for example).

The source: Yours truly, who put the suggestion on other forums (names forgotten) and who will not claim credit if Disney adopts the idea. Any resemblance to other parking ideas and rumors and news is purely coincidental.

The purpose: To put a damper on parking at resorts to go to theme parks. It would improve parking for guests without advance dining reservations and who had more impromptu plans for visiting, and dining at, resorts.
