Vibration on Disney Fantasy

Take this with a gain of salt, because some of it came from a CM on the Fantasy. We got off the ship last week after the 11nt Southern. We were midships, deck 9 family verandah. We're Platinum and have sailed all 4, so know our vibes lol.

Yes, there's the usual thruster vibrations, but they are recognizable. The other vibration only comes when the ship is running at or around 21kt and it's continuous.

Now the CM rumor. The Fantasy does have drive line issues, such that the Dream and Fantasy will swap itineraries at some point. The Fantasy has significantly more wear on her drive line that the Dream, so they'll switch, so that the Fantasy can put less stress on the drive. AFAIK the Dream & Fantasy have fixed pitch props.

That is all.
That makes sense. The dream has one at sea day a week; the fantasy has 2-3. That’s a lot more time that the engine is running.

Doing the swap makes sense.

I heard from a CM that the issue relates to a bearing on one of the shafts. It caused the Fantasy to sail at a reduced speed for one of its Eastern cruises, was a day late getting into Cozumel (arrived at 0400 the following day) and had to skip a port. The same CM also mirrored what was said by AndyR, the Fantasy has a lot more wear on her than the Dream.
This is down to the amount of engines running at any one time. The fantasy is always on 3 or more engines between ports so their cumulative running hours increase quickly (with the exception of BVI to U.S Virgin Islands where it often drifts or sails dead slow). The Dream just plods along generally slower so doesn't need many engines running.

If you are in a bad location the vibrations are bad. We won't sail in an aft cabin anymore. If we can't get a forward cabin we won't sail on the Fantasy at all. It was so bad we couldn't sleep.
What was the cabin number?

I have some background in vibration analysis, so here are my thoughts

The only ships without vibration are steam turbines with special propellers (which are what the US hospital ships are)

Metal structures have natural frequencies at which resonance occurs, and while you can dampen it somewhat by design it is always there

Where it occurs can actually move around depending on the source location (which of the 4 motors are running), what RPM they are running at and if they are in sync with each other of alternately put out of sync to distribute the vibration.

There is a real art to this both in design and operation, so do not be afraid to give feedback so that they can make adjustments, just be very specific about time it occurs so they can check the logs to see what circumstances created the localized vibrations.

As a rule it will be worse near the vibration source though there can be exception were it only occurs far from the course

I hope this is helpful ( and made sense)
