We. Are. CHUNKY! DISBoards Epic Girls Trip May 2019 THE END! Epilogue: Dream Cruise, Club 33 and a new TR!

I love these orange bird magic shots!

Very cute! I wish I'd known about these!

It looks like I have wings on my head,, or some sort of elaborate met gala hairstyle, which is due to the heart shaped bush behind me :rotfl:

You seem to excel at these type of shots.

And I'm thinking to myself if Steve wore only the bow tie, I don't think anyone would be my friend anymore :rotfl: and also we'd be banned from Disney and that wouldn't be good.

How did you go from wearing a bow tie to wearing just a bow tie?????? :confused3 Too much chippendales?

This one was a guava sorbet intermezzo with a few spoonfuls of sparkling wine on top:

So yummy! I wonder if everyone gets the intermezzo or if it's just us? :)

We didn't get the intermezzo, but we only ordered steaks and a side.

David kept mentioning this amazing lobster dish and Karilynn and I both ordered it as it did sound delicious.

I don't know. If I'm going to Yachtsman, I've been prepping myself all day for an amazing rib eye. Then again that dish does sound delicious.

Steve stuck with the steak and ordered the prime rib. It was served with baked sweet potato puree which is something that Chunkysis would have totally loved since sweet potatoes are one of her favorite foods, especially topped with a little marshmallow.

I think the sweet potatoes was one reason I didn't pick the prime rib. I know that you can always swap out the sides, but still, I don't like sweet potatoes, so it turned me off.

This was the key lime semi-freddo and it was just lovely! I love a crunchy meringue topped dessert! (Pavlova and Baked Alaska are two of my favorite things!)

Huh. I guess I'm not a big fan of meringue, because I don't get the hype of Pavlova and Baked Alaska is take it or leave it for me.

So I guess no VIP fun night for us, but we were pooped!

I don't know how you could have even considered two nights in a row that late. I would have been like, "put me to bed" after dinner!

Dapper Day looks like a blast!! I don't blame you for being too exhausted to make it for the late night event.

Love all the Photopass pics throughout the day! The orange bird one is adorable :) I actually got that one on my birthday near Spaceship Earth, too!

Unfortunately the orange cream drink that was served inside was blech. It was too creamy and artificial tasting and also too sweet. I was glad to dump it out and just keep the sipper!

I love that sipper!! Too bad the drink was gross...I think it should just be orange juice lol

Loved your Dapper Day dress, so cute!! Looks like it wasn't too bad to wear around the parks either. I love the idea of Dapper Day but...comfort is king!!

It's a great outfit.....especially with the fascinator!
Thank you!
I really want to try out POFQ one day!
I love it! My favorite moderate!
The manatees are the best. They are a must do for us every trip.
Me too!
Adding those to my list for July!
:thumbsup2
Or heart shaped ears!
💓
You can't do everything. Looks you had a fun filled day! :)
I have to tell myself that all the time. I finally listened!
But it was a still a great day!

Very cute! I wish I'd known about these!
I didn't even know until I got one!
You seem to excel at these type of shots.
Apparently so!
How did you go from wearing a bow tie to wearing just a bow tie?????? :confused3 Too much chippendales?
I don't know why my mind wandered there but it was probably how they were phrasing it.
We didn't get the intermezzo, but we only ordered steaks and a side.
Ah yes usually it's in between the apps and the mains but next time you're there let me know!
I don't know. If I'm going to Yachtsman, I've been prepping myself all day for an amazing rib eye. Then again that dish does sound delicious.
True, I totally thought I would have steak but that lobster dish sounded too good to pass up and I'm glad I didn't.
I think the sweet potatoes was one reason I didn't pick the prime rib. I know that you can always swap out the sides, but still, I don't like sweet potatoes, so it turned me off.
Yup you can pick any side dish you want as long as it's not one of the signature sides, to substitute. I think Steve should have gotten another side as we're not as fond of sweet potatoes as much as my sister.
Huh. I guess I'm not a big fan of meringue, because I don't get the hype of Pavlova and Baked Alaska is take it or leave it for me.
Oh haha, it's like the only desserts i don't turn down!
I don't know how you could have even considered two nights in a row that late. I would have been like, "put me to bed" after dinner!
I know, that is the attitude I get nowadays. I guess it wasn't a big deal and it was a free event so I wasn't wasting money!
Dapper Day looks like a blast!! I don't blame you for being too exhausted to make it for the late night event.
Oh for sure, plus I had to save some energy for the Epic meetups later that week!
Love all the Photopass pics throughout the day! The orange bird one is adorable :) I actually got that one on my birthday near Spaceship Earth, too!
They are so cute! I honestly had no idea they had them so it was a nice surprise!
I love that sipper!! Too bad the drink was gross...I think it should just be orange juice lol
I agree! Anything but that concoction!
Loved your Dapper Day dress, so cute!! Looks like it wasn't too bad to wear around the parks either. I love the idea of Dapper Day but...comfort is king!!
Thank you! Yup, it was stretchy! I only wear stretchy stuff nowadays. I can't stand being in binding clothing!
I am jealous of the sipper. I tried 3 times to get one in March:sad2:
Oh no! But I guess that was when the festival first started so it was sold out. :(

Oh neat, you're doing another one already! I'll have to follow this one, too, since I don't think I made it all the way through your last one yet :). How often do you get to go to Disney, anyhow?

Day 3: The Return to Typhoon Lagoon

Today we were going to do something we haven't done in a long time...go to a water park! In all honesty, I don't think Steve and I have ever been to a water park together. We decided on Typhoon Lagoon because it was the closest. The only other time I've been to Typhoon Lagoon was during my college years, many many eons ago with my best friend Kelly. Since our APs include the water parks we thought we should make use of that at least once before my AP expires. (Which is this coming Monday. And yes I priced out a last minute solo trip. And no, I'm not going, the flights were just too expensive and I couldn't really take more time off from work right now, booooooo).

First up, we needed a hearty breakfast! So we got my favorite resort quick service breakfast at Sassagoula Floatworks: Shrimp n Grits with eggs followed by Mickey Beignets!

We had this same breakfast back in Feb, and it is so good. The shrimp n grits are creamy and spicy and the poached eggs are perfectly runny...and the beignets are just like powdered sugar topped fried dough and you can't go wrong with that! It is a huge breakfast though as the portions are so large, so it's great to share!

We waited for a bus to TL...I think we stopped at another resort to pick up people before we arrived at the water park.

So cool to be visiting again! I really cannot remember a thing about TL from my previous visit. I know it was refurbished recently so whatever I remember probably doesn't even resemble what it does now!

We entered and figured out the layout a bit. We found chairs quite quickly and luckily there was an umbrella so we weren't in the sun the whole time. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and we sat by the wave pool.

I don't have too many pictures after this point. We went on a few of the slides, some of them twice, which was fun except for that one run where our float flipped over as we hit the water...it was not a graceful exit, hahaha. The lazy river was really fun too! We spent about 3.5 hours at TL and even though I got a little toasty and got a little bit of a sunglass tan, it was really fun! We will be sure to return in the future if we pick up another AP with water park privileges. I don't think it's a must do for me, but it is definitely nice to have. Our tickets we purchased last year was a discounted price for DVC and it was a the platinum plus ticket. It was a great deal but I have not seen it offered since. I hope they have the same ticket deal again for the same price!

At TL I was wondering where we should eat dinner and I found a same day ADR at 50's Prime Time so I booked that since we were spending the evening at DHS anyways.

We just rinsed off a bit before heading back to POFQ. I think we waited a bit for the bus. When we arrived we picked up a muffuletta sandwich to snack on. I headed to the room first and Steve brought the sandwich back, but when I took a bite of the sandwich I didn't think it tasted as good as I remembered. I didn't know what it was missing at first but then it hit me that the sandwich wasn't toasted which is the way I had it before. It was so much better toasted because otherwise the bread was a bit dry. So I could only take a few bites before I just stored it in the fridge.

I thought I could heat it up at some point in the microwave at the quick service as I thought it would make it taste much better.

We got ready and headed to DHS.

Steve and I shared an Electric Lemonade which was a nice sweet-tart drink.

And I always get my favorite...the sampler platter of Mom’s Favorite Recipes – Golden-fried Chicken, Pork Tender Pot Roast, Traditional Meatloaf with Green Beans. It has a little bit of everything and you cannot go wrong with it!

Yum, so delicious and hit the spot after the disappointing muffuletta.

Steve got a special that day, which was a rather "healthy" dish, it was kale, sauteed with other vegetables, mushrooms, white beans, and topped with blackened salmon. I didn't think anything about this dish until I had a bite and thought it was really good. You don't even think that it's that healthy when you taste it. There were nice flavors of garlic and the broth had a lot of the mushroom-y flavors that I like. I actually think this is a winning dish and if I had to eat healthy I'd want to eat this. However I don't think it's really a 50's Prime Time sort of dish but maybe they had to start offering healthy and more veggie-friendly, gluten-free items for guests. Either way, I thought it worked.

Also just wanted to share a picture of my park bag which I had picked up during our Feb trip. It's a HM drawstring backpack that I got at Memento Mori. I love it! It was the perfect size and really lightweight. I can see myself using this for many many trips!

Side note on other trips: Have all of you been drooling at the pictures and stories from DLR's Galaxy's Edge too? I cannot wait until we get to visit. Of course I priced out going to DLR during GE's opening month but I really can't make it work and for the price of the flight, hotel, and park tickets for a weekend...let's just say I could go on another Disney cruise for the same price LOL. So I refrained and am just working on our plans for our Sept visit, we'll be there for a few days and we will take our time to see GE and it's gonna be sooo amazing! I am eager to see how the crowds are post-reservation system but I have been told they are doing a virtual line system which should help.

We're also planning on getting another set of WDW APs starting in the fall and our first trip is probably going to be October 5th for a long weekend and then November over Veteran's day for another long weekend before heading down for New Year's Eve week! That is gonna be absolutely crazy so we'll have to make sure we carefully plan our visit so we can avoid most of the headaches.

Anyways, I'm enjoying all the footage I've seen of GE out in DLR! Here's me pretending not to be jealous:

We had a bit of time before our FP window closed so we went to catch Lightning McQueen's Racing Academy as a new show was starting. It's just a show in an air-conditioned theater that has like almost a circle vision feel to it (but more high tech, LOL). It was cute and a nice way to get out of the heat although it's not a must-do.

We were pretty beat at that point even though it wasn't even dark out yet, but a few hours in the sun at Typhoon Lagoon will do that to you! We contemplated staying for the SW fireworks or Fantasmic! but ultimately decided to just leave.

It's so much better than that horrendous maze during construction! But I feel the walk to the buses is now further than it was before the construction, although not horrible.

We weren't hungry when we left DHS but by the time we got back to POFQ we thought to get a bite to eat. I picked up my half of the muffeletta from our room's fridge and brought it back to the food court to nuke it and I have to say it was 10x better, because the bread got soft and the cheese nice and melty. We also split an order of the gumbo. It was tasty (a little too salty though) but it was good and spicy. I am not a gumbo expert so I don't know how this compares to other gumbos but it was fine by us. I wish there were more chunks of okra though as I am a big okra person.

Overall, a really great day doing some chillaxin at Typhoon Lagoon and meeting my favorite SW characters!

Tomorrow we head to MK and Chunkysis finally joins us!! Stay tuned...

Oh neat, you're doing another one already! I'll have to follow this one, too, since I don't think I made it all the way through your last one yet :). How often do you get to go to Disney, anyhow?

Thanks for following! Before we got our first set of APs in 2017, it was only once a year, but since getting APs, we've gone multiple times. Last year I went twice, This year we went in Feb, May, and going again 3 times during the fall/winter :)

Today we were going to do something we haven't done in a long time...go to a water park! In all honesty, I don't think Steve and I have ever been to a water park together
I haven't been to one in ages too. TL... not in decades.
Since our APs include the water parks
Since I haven't been in decades... I passed on that option.
And no, I'm not going, the flights were just too expensive and I couldn't really take more time off from work right now, booooooo).
Well. booooooo!
Shrimp n Grits with eggs followed by Mickey Beignets!
I'd eat that. Well, probably minus the grits.
So cool to be visiting again! I really cannot remember a thing about TL from my previous visit.
Oh, man... I remember the wave pool and back then you could swim through an aquarium with small sharks and other fish in it.
We found chairs quite quickly and luckily there was an umbrella so we weren't in the sun the whole time.
Phew!
We went on a few of the slides, some of them twice, which was fun except for that one run where our float flipped over as we hit the water...it was not a graceful exit, hahaha.
I found a same day ADR at 50's Prime Time
Nice! That used to be very difficult to get.
Like this photo. Looks like no one's home... at grandma's back in the 50s.
Steve and I shared an Electric Lemonade which was a nice sweet-tart drink.
Might try that. :)
And I always get my favorite...the sampler platter of Mom’s Favorite Recipes – Golden-fried Chicken, Pork Tender Pot Roast, Traditional Meatloaf with Green Beans. It has a little bit of everything and you cannot go wrong with it!
Lot of food, though. I don't think I could do it... not and have room for dessert!
it was kale,
no
topped with blackened salmon
Okay, that's better.
Also just wanted to share a picture of my park bag which I had picked up during our Feb trip. It's a HM drawstring backpack that I got at Memento Mori. I love it!
I like it!
Neither one of us was the Rebel spy, of course,
Of course. :sad2:
You need to find a time when no one else is riding.
Have all of you been drooling at the pictures and stories from DLR's Galaxy's Edge too?
::yes::
Also had to get myself a selfie with...blue milk!! :rotfl:
Imagine my disappointment when I found out it tastes like coconut. blech.
Ah! I saw that from the RNR queue, but didn't go over to investigate. Too busy doing other stuff.
We went to RnRC after that and to my surprise, my name showed up in the queue! This is the first time I've seen this happen to either one of us!
We had that too! First time, too!
Here is our ride pic. Steve was fully embracing the metal head vibe.

I have decided the food at Leaky Cauldron is just not that great.
Which makes me sad. I think I'm done with Uni QS except for snacking
Steve, myself and Lesley went to ride on Spiderman. I think this ride is really fun and well done.
This is probably my favorite after Forbidden Journey
We ended up doing Hulk a second time and lo and behold we ran into alyssa (@amalone1013) and her DH Zach on the ride just a few rows ahead of us LOL. We did that once on line at Space Mountain during MNSSHP! It wasn't planned at all!
We found you!
. I really enjoy this coaster a lot! It's smooth and controlled and honestly it's not that scary after you ride it, and I am a bit of a chicken sometimes.
No I dont believe you, it's still scary! :rotfl: once is my limit
Steve and I then did several things that we have never done before including Raptor Encounter:
We forgot this :(
Also all the food was closed. I wish I remembered as I would have gotten more food, not that I was super hungry but because I wanted to try more stuff.
Me too! I wanted to try some things, and we also had bad planning thus ended up eating at Toothsome so I didnt feel like we got our money's worth on the food part... yes I'm weird. We only did Fireaters grill and I grabbed pasta at the Italian place
OK everyone, this ride is super lame. It's all CGI and just didn't feel real at all. We were not impressed.
Right???? Blech. Also when we were in Hollywood in 2016 they had a preview on the tour and I swear it was THE ENTIRE RIDE. So basically the new thing for us on this ride was the queue.
We took an Uber back to the Hyatt House a little before 1am. Definitely tired but we had a fun night!
Omg we had ridiculously terrible uber luck after it ended
So cool you all ran into each other. I was so disappointed when their
Me tooooooooooo

I bought a dress from ebay which is from a brand I normally wear (Leota NYC) and their dresses fold up small and don't wrinkle, and the style I got had sort of a vintage quality to it.
I love your dress! Everyone looked great but im very partial to blue... :D
We started with the aforementioned much coveted Dole Whip Mimosa/Froscatos. Lesley and I got them and Steve got their regular red froscato. They were all really good!! I would definitely return just to have them again.
Yumm! I think this needs to go on our list
At Test Track, we created this car: -2 in Efficiency! LOL
This will be zack's new goal, I didnt know you could go negative!
We rode Nemo and then visited the Manatees. I wish I could have recorded more Manatees and Me episodes but there were too many people, and I like a more intimidate experience on my show.
I just found something where you can swim with manatees the other day. Giving it serious consideration lol
We thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, and for once I was not totally full that we ordered a dessert to share: This was the key lime semi-freddo and it was just lovely! I love a crunchy meringue topped dessert! (Pavlova and Baked Alaska are two of my favorite things!)
Yahchtsman is on our list but we havent made it yet. Everytime I read someone's review I am sad :rotfl:
At springs, I stopped in World of Disney and found the Donald Duck Butt ears that had just come out.
We saw these st the passholder night and at first I thought someone made them until we saw more

This all looks so good! I have to ask, do the eggs come that way automatically or do you get a choice?
We will be sure to return in the future if we pick up another AP with water park privileges. I don't think it's a must do for me, but it is definitely nice to have.
I'd really like to do another laid back water park trip with resort restaurants lol. It was so fun!
We are going for a short trip in October, hopefully for Universal and Halloween Horrow Nights plus two days at Disney with my ILs, possibly MNSSHP... I will have to see what dates we end up with! Zacks brother is also supposed to go so we have to coordinate

I haven't been to Typhoon Lagoon in at least fifteen years. My kids used to love that place, but it just seems like we never have enough time for the water parks.

Steve's salmon, kale and veggie dish looked really good. I wonder how long that will be on the menu.

Your HM back is super cute! I've found the drawstring bags more comfortable for me to carry than most other bags.

You just can't take a bad picture if Chewie is in it!

Talk to me about those cute shoes you're wearing!

I've seen people I'm with names pop up randomly on those boards on certain rides. Interesting how those are chosen. I once thought you had to have a fast pass for that to happen, but I've seen it without also.

The new bus depot looks great! That was such a mess during construction!

Thanks for following! Before we got our first set of APs in 2017, it was only once a year, but since getting APs, we've gone multiple times. Last year I went twice, This year we went in Feb, May, and going again 3 times during the fall/winter :)
Wowwwwwwwwwwww- the travel must be REALLY extensive, even if you're on the East coast.

Typhoon Lagoon sounds really fun. I haven’t been since I was a kid. Nice to work a relaxing day into the trip. I am also binging on all the various Galaxy’s Edge coverage. It looks SO cool. I hope it runs as smoothly in FL as it seems to have in CA.

I got an email. If you are an AP you should be getting these emails from Disney Destinations or something like that.

I'll have to look into that, as I am NOT getting them. :(

It's a HM drawstring backpack that I got at Memento Mori. I love it! It was the perfect size and really lightweight. I can see myself using this for many many trips!

I got one that is more generic Mickey flavored. I LOVE the style and weight- it's super comfy, but I MUCH prefer the fabric of your HM one. I'll look for that one too and might get it.

Soooooo much better!! LOVE this!

There was just so much I wanted to comment on and I loved reading it all, but I am short on time this time around. I'll try to comment more on the next chapter, Su-Lynn!!

I haven't been to one in ages too. TL... not in decades.
I think people with younger kids seem to really embrace it. But I found it a lot of fun. I'm not sure I would be willing to shell out money for the extra privileges though with the AP.
Oh, man... I remember the wave pool and back then you could swim through an aquarium with small sharks and other fish in it.
I do not remember this at all!
Nice! That used to be very difficult to get.
True, but with so many dining options around WDW these days, it's much easier to get.
Like this photo. Looks like no one's home... at grandma's back in the 50s.
A friend of mine said exactly the same thing!
Lot of food, though. I don't think I could do it... not and have room for dessert!
Yeah I'm always stuffed.
Of course. :sad2:
You need to find a time when no one else is riding.
Which is when...the park is closed?
Imagine my disappointment when I found out it tastes like coconut. blech.
Oh really? Interesting. I wonder if it resembles the blue milk they used to have during Star Wars weekends. I remembered it was an awful blue raspberry.
We had that too! First time, too!
I thought it'll ever happen to me! now I just need to be the Rebel Spy!
Which makes me sad. I think I'm done with Uni QS except for snacking
Me too. Maybe we're trying the wrong QS.
This is probably my favorite after Forbidden Journey
It's a great ride!
We found you!
You did! :)
No I dont believe you, it's still scary! :rotfl: once is my limit
LOL, I'm a ride chicken but I like this ride!
We forgot this :(
I only knew about it because Karilynn pointed it out.
Me too! I wanted to try some things, and we also had bad planning thus ended up eating at Toothsome so I didnt feel like we got our money's worth on the food part... yes I'm weird. We only did Fireaters grill and I grabbed pasta at the Italian place
I didn't feel like we got our money's worth on the food either, because I could have totally eaten more but it was too late.
Right???? Blech. Also when we were in Hollywood in 2016 they had a preview on the tour and I swear it was THE ENTIRE RIDE. So basically the new thing for us on this ride was the queue.
It was so bad!
Omg we had ridiculously terrible uber luck after it ended
Oh no!
I love your dress! Everyone looked great but im very partial to blue... :D
Thanks!!
:)
Yumm! I think this needs to go on our list
I am really clamoring to go back!
This will be zack's new goal, I didnt know you could go negative!
I had no idea until it happened one day, haha! I just wanted a lot of power and little of everything else.
I just found something where you can swim with manatees the other day. Giving it serious consideration lol
Oh cool!! That would be exciting!
Yahchtsman is on our list but we havent made it yet. Everytime I read someone's review I am sad :rotfl:
You guys should just come with us when our trips overlap again.
We saw these st the passholder night and at first I thought someone made them until we saw more
They do have a sort of handmade quality!
This all looks so good! I have to ask, do the eggs come that way automatically or do you get a choice?
They come that way automatically but you might be able to specify, or at least have them cooked longer if you're not a runny yolk person. I waver back and forth but I thought the runny eggs went well with the dish.
I'd really like to do another laid back water park trip with resort restaurants lol. It was so fun!
Sounds like a great trip to me!
We are going for a short trip in October, hopefully for Universal and Halloween Horrow Nights plus two days at Disney with my ILs, possibly MNSSHP... I will have to see what dates we end up with! Zacks brother is also supposed to go so we have to coordinate
My Oct trip is tentative for now. Because if I go in Oct then I have to shorten our Nov trip, so it really depends on what we want to do (I wanted OCt because I wanted to do MNSSHP!) but I do have Pop booked for Oct just in case!

we thought we should make use of that at least once before my AP expires. (Which is this coming Monday. And yes I priced out a last minute solo trip. And no, I'm not going, the flights were just too expensive and I couldn't really take more time off from work right now, booooooo).

I agree, booooooo!

followed by Mickey Beignets!

😋

I don't have too many pictures after this point. We went on a few of the slides, some of them twice, which was fun except for that one run where our float flipped over as we hit the water...it was not a graceful exit, hahaha. The lazy river was really fun too! We spent about 3.5 hours at TL and even though I got a little toasty and got a little bit of a sunglass tan, it was really fun!

I really love TL. I love the feel of it and I really love the lazy river. I haven't been back in years, but I think we'll be taking the kids next July. It's such a nice, relaxing way to spend a day ::yes::

Our tickets we purchased last year was a discounted price for DVC and it was a the platinum plus ticket. It was a great deal but I have not seen it offered since. I hope they have the same ticket deal again for the same price!

I keep hoping for one of those deals again, though I'm starting to think maybe those days are behind us :sad2:

And I always get my favorite...the sampler platter of Mom’s Favorite Recipes – Golden-fried Chicken, Pork Tender Pot Roast, Traditional Meatloaf with Green Beans. It has a little bit of everything and you cannot go wrong with it!

That looks good! I have never eaten there, but it's on my list for next year with the kids. Plus, Mike loves comfort food like that so I think it'll be a hit.

Also just wanted to share a picture of my park bag which I had picked up during our Feb trip. It's a HM drawstring backpack that I got at Memento Mori. I love it! It was the perfect size and really lightweight. I can see myself using this for many many trips!

That's really cute! I need a new park bag, but I don't have good luck with the string like bags. I've had a few that completely untied or got tangled. My current bag is ugly, but it has the thicker straps that I like.

Side note on other trips: Have all of you been drooling at the pictures and stories from DLR's Galaxy's Edge too?

Nope. I'm purposely avoiding any mention of GE…I'm sure you know how hard that is when you follow all these Disney sites! I want to kind of experience it for myself next year.

We went to RnRC after that and to my surprise, my name showed up in the queue! This is the first time I've seen this happen to either one of us!

I love when that happens!

Also, I'd like to introduce Soldier Steve:

Nailed it! :rotfl:

Sure! You don't have to be little to love playing in the water. :)
I'm not sure I would be willing to shell out money for the extra privileges though with the AP.
Nope. Not I. But if it was included? Heck ya!
I do not remember this at all!
Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon

Very true of a lot of places.
Which is when...the park is closed?
Well... Just before?
I wonder how many people ride it just before park close vs SDD, ToT, TSMM, OR RNRC?
