What to do NOT in a park

Hi

we are heading to DW in 12/26 to 1/1 but not going to any parks. Looking for everyone’s input on things we can do on Disney property and maybe some things to take advantage of the Xmas decor.

Thanks

- Ride the Monorail and visit the three monorail resorts (Christmas decorations)
- Visit Wilderness Lodge (Christmas decorations)
- Visit the Boardwalk area
- Visit Disney Springs (Christmas Tree Trail)
- Visit POR and take a 25 minute horse-drawn carriage ride (need reservations)

Archery at Fort Wilderness, eating and exploring at various resort hotels, campfires at some hotels (Animal Kingdom Lodge and Fort Wilderness have them for sure, plus some others), mini golf, Disney Springs, Boardwalk area, swimming, water activities on the lagoon, regular golfing, spa day, ... so many activities!

We also had a great time a Disney Springs on our last trip. The Void was amazing, the kids loved all the street musicians and there were a ton of dining options.

I think the Chip & Dale Campfire Sing-A-Long at Ft. Wilderness would be a good idea! Free meet and greet with Chip & Dale, a cute little show, roasting marshmallows & if you wish to stay, it's followed by a Disney movie.

Disney Springs ( shopping, good food and lots of music ) can take almost a full day now even if you are not a big shopper. I still love strolling Boardwalk, catching some of their performers and if everyone is over 21 heading to Jellyrolls for dueling pianos or the Bellevue Room for cocktails. Then theirs mini golf, the Mandara Spa at the Dolphin/Swan, visiting resorts. ( Vist AKL if you have a car to take you over there - so much to see and do ). The resorts themselves also usually have afternoon activities - mostly for kids but they have some adult activities sprinkled in.

It's really fun to walk around Fort Wilderness campground after dark and look at all the fabulous Xmas decorations--decorations done by individual campers, not by Disney. Really fantastic.

Watch the MK fireworks from the beach at the Poly.

Another vote for the monorail loop. And minigolf, especially Winterland/Summerland, since it has such an Xmassy theme--also, the wait time there is usually not as bad as it can be at Fantasia. FYI, you can't make reservations at either of the minigolf courses.

View the savannahs at AKL and AKV and have a meal at one of the fabulous restaurants there. Also, AKL has an extensive collection of African art, including clothing and accessories, scattered throughout the lodge. There's a fun Hidden Mickey hunt at AKL as well--get the list from the concierge at the front desk.

How could I forget: SURFING at Typhoon Lagoon!!! OMG, the best extra activity, ever. (If you like surfing, or want to learn how to surf, that is.) The session starts and ends before the park opens, so you don't need a theme park ticket or daily admission to participate. It's pricey, but we LOVED it. Even though we can go surfing back home, the ocean is super cold here and surfing without a wetsuit on predictable manmade waves is the best. The session is suitable for beginners with no experience whatsoever, and they will modify the lesson if you already have some skills and want to learn more. The instructors are some of the best we've had (and we've been surfing with lessons in several places.) Observers get in for a reduced rate.
