What's wrong with me?

The first time I went to WDW was July of '88. It was of course, hot. I was 4 months pregnant. The 2nd day of walking, I began to notice a red rash, like a sunburn just above my ankles. Everyday, it got worse, swelled and burned and went further up my legs. I met an older woman on the Monorail with the same rash. She was very worried too. It became painful and hot to the touch. Everytime I go to Disney, if it's 80 degrees or hotter, here we go again. The doctors seem to be baffled, because they are never at Disney to see it. However, I see women all over WDW with the same thing. If any of you happen to read this, and you know what it's called, please tell me. I love Disney, and I'd sure like to know how to beat this. Thanks for any tips or help you can give me. <IMG SRC="/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif" alt="confused">

There was a thread about this a couple of months ago, but I can't remember which board it was on. It sounded just like what you describe and the consensus was that it was due to a combination of the sun, walking on hot pavement all day and possibly some people having a reaction to sunscreen. Most people said it itched or irritated them. I think the remedies suggested were to make sure to get enough water, cover up from the sun and wear sunscreen, but shower at night to get it off before going to bed. I know some people also get a rash from exposure to chlorine in the pool, so make sure you rinse off real well after swimming.

Sunscreens and lotions that contain aloe and some other ingredients do this to me. I have very sensitive skin... when I was pregnant with my duaghter I got PUPPP syndrome, had a terrible rash all over my body for months. It gets even worse if my legs are irritated, such as if I have recently shaved my legs and use a new kind of lotion to which I react. I suppose sunburn can do it, too.
Chlorine is used all over WDW to clean... could it be that you sat against something that had been wiped down with a cleaning solution, and it got your bare legs? Just a thought.

You know what they say "only God can make a tree but any d%$#&* thing can make a rash".
It was mentioned that in the summer sun the glare and heat of the pavement could be causing this. The best solution seemed to be wear baggy long very light weight pants (those really thin pants) to cover your legs . AND keep your legs cool is another option - take ice packs to the park and stop from time to time to cool your legs and other parts down. You could experiment with the sun screens at home ( do they make you break out or not, etc...) But basically, keep cool and cover up.
