Where do you eat lunch?

I ended up having to go home for lunch today to look for something. Thankfully, I found what I was looking for. But I remembered why I don't like going home for lunch: It makes it too hard to come back to work!

I eat lunch at my desk while I work and then go for a walk on my lunch break.

Exactly what I do.

I have to ask, why do so many of you eat in your cars? Are you already driving? Or do you leave the building to go sit in your car and eat?

Usually it's if I went somewhere for take-out I'll just stay in my car to eat. In the spring/summer when the weather is nice I'll eat in my car with the windows down to escape the air conditioning for a while.

If I have lunch, it's almost always at my desk. Once in a while, I'll meet a friend for lunch and go to a nearby restaurant.

Most of the time I go out to eat, but about twice a week I bring lunch and eat at my desk.

For me it is really lack of another suitable location. Our break room is TINY, it has a couch & one table with 4 chairs. There are nearly 70 employees. My desk isn't really an option because I share an office with 2 others. Plus I like getting away from the office during my lunch. I won't even eat in the parking lot. I drive to a shopping center and park under a tree.

We're in the process of building a waterfront home that's 10 minutes from our business. On our lunch, DH and I drive to the lot, check out the progress, and sit by the water and eat. There was a bald eagle today in one of the trees so we got to watch him/her while we ate :)

If my lunch buddy is working we eat in the breakroom. A couple of times a week we'll go out. If she's not working I go home for lunch.

This is us - we live less than 5 minutes down the road from work and it's super convenient to be able to run home and let the pups out or just take a break from the office and sit on the porch and get some fresh air and sunshine while eating lunch.
(enjoy your eagles, I hope you have a nest nearby, it's fun to watch the young ones!)

I can’t leave the property and I’m not allowed to fraternize with other staff so I can’t use the lunch room so I eat in my office at my desk every day.

Sometimes I am already driving b/c I go from school to school. But, sometimes I just want to go where no one will bother me & my car is the only place I can go. My house is just far enough from work not to be worth the effort.

What do you do that you can’t talk to other staff?

I work surveillance in a casino. They think if we’re friends with the staff we can’t also make sure they follow the rules and don’t try and cheat the house as it were.

When I worked in-house, I went to the cafeteria. There were 6 of us crammed into mini cubes the space size smaller than my dining area at home. I wanted to "get away". The other 5 always went at 11:00am. Not me, I started at 7:45 then and didn't go to lunch until 1:00.
Now...I work at home, eat whenever I feel like it, breakfast at my desk, sometimes lunch but we must take at least a .5 lunch break so if I make something to eat, then I'm standing at the kitchen counter.

Interesting. I couldn’t imagine what your job could be, but that makes sense.
