Where to buy next?

What DVC resort would you buy next?

  • Total voters
    41
Meaning if you are staying at BLT DVC members will not have access to TOTWL?

That is correct. Until now those 2 dates were blackout for members except those staying at BLT. Just last week DVC announced they were shutting down the lounge on the 4th and 31st even to those staying at BLT in order to offer a paid event to DVC members. Earlier this year they had actually announced it would be the same as always for this year (with the normal - this can change asterisk). The went with the asterisk.

Interesting that VGF is so poorly voted. Is it because it feels sort of separate from the rest of the resort (i.e. people would rather stay at the hotel proper)? The same can be said of BLT, I guess, but when I stay at VGF it definitely feels more like I'm at kind of a separate kids' table
I know what you mean about the separate kids table! For some reason VGF does feel farther from the main building, even though I know most DVC resorts are like that. The plus with VGF though is that you’re that much closer to walking to Poly, so it opens up some options. For me though, we ultimately ruled out VGF because of the point charts. I realized we could stay in a 2br at BCV for less points than 1br lake view at VGF, and only a few more points than standard view 1br most of the year...

Interesting. Based on Pete's review of the hotel vs the DVC side of the house they were polar opposites for him.
We just stayed at GF earlier this year and did not have that experience at all. :confused3 I think it just shows how differently people can view things, and even room to room/day to day can vary quite a bit.

For your OP I’m torn between BLT and Poly, and I ended up voting for Poly. If you ever think you’d prefer 1 (or 2) brs I’d say BLT but it sounds like you could use your other contracts for that.

Normally - it’s just 2 of us - we never stay in a studio - we need our space and we eat in a lot and I detest having to go home with piles of dirty laundry! When we travel with our daughter, her husband and our grand (soon to be grands plural) and our SILs mother - I get a 2br and a 1br - as we all like our space and privacy - BLT is just so convenient!
That’s also why we love BC, VGF and WL - Location!

Yeah I'm think I'm leaning between the two as well. Which resort is easer to get into at the 11 and 7 month mark?

I wouldn't put too much stock in Pete's review of the GF hotel side. He clearly had a bad interaction with the front desk -- but that can happen anywhere -- and one data point is not something I would worry too much about. It could easily be an isolated incident.

I stayed concierge at GV 3 years ago (did a split stay with GF and PO riverside) and it was night and day between the two. POR took 30 minutes to check in and zero help getting to the room...whereas at GF, someone met us practically at the door and ushered us to the concierge building and made sure everything was situated. They even looked at our FPs for the next day and asked if we wanted them to try and get some of the better headliners. As it was my first time and my head was already spinning...I said we were good for now, but I'd definitely come back if need be. Needless to say, I came back that night and they threw some pixie dust as this newbie with 3 anytime FPs that were good for the rest of our stay. It was love at first sight.

I figure I can use my other points if I want a 1RB. Or if I get the BL I could use points at the Poly. It just depends how difficult it will be to book. The life span on BL is shorter than the Poly but BL is more $$$ on the resale market.

Is there a link on here that has all the acronyms everyone is using? Really I need it! LOL!

VGF is actually closer to the main lobby than many of the other DVC resorts. BRV...BLT...Poly...Kidani...BWV (depending on where you're at) are all further away from main lobby than VGF is to its lobby. Additionally, the main pool at GF is right next to VGF -- so it's really nice if pool time is a big deal for your family. The QS for Grand Floridian is a decent hike from the villas -- but if you want to fill up mugs, you can always do so at the pool if it is open.

I need a legend that explains what all of the acronyms are. LOL!

Yeah I'm think I'm leaning between the two as well. Which resort is easer to get into at the 11 and 7 month mark?
So full disclosure we just bought into DVC in April so my experience so far is mostly just with the regular resorts/hotel side. I did a lot of reading/lurking on here before purchasing, and I found this thread extremely helpful:

https://www.disboards.com/threads/p...-studios-1-bedrooms-june-2018-update.3689931/
I’ve heard that standard view studios at BLT can be hard for even owners to book at 11 months sometimes (but other views should be better, especially lake view), and I haven’t heard that Poly owners have had a tough time, but the rooms go fast at 7 months. But hopefully some people with more experience can add to this.

Excuse me madam, do you speak Disney?
:chat:

I voted BLT. We have 2 little kids, and own at BLT, VGF and RIV. We currently have the fewest points at BLT, so that's another reason I voted BLT. When we bought RIV I was actually trying to figure out whether we wanted to add on at BLT or get a home resort with easier EP/DHS access. DH loves Star Wars, and we both love EP, so RIV won out. But I would like to have enough BLT points to stay in the grand villas there sometime, for more than 1-2 nights.

New born son = BLT for me every time.
^^^This - standard rooms (all sizes, 1BR last) go first, then TPV shortly thereafter, and LV is left for non-home-resort owners. I did stalk/waitlist my way to a 1BR std at BLT once, but it took a lot of time. You have several years ahead of spending wayyyyy more time at MK than you originally planned (my oldest is 7 and still says MK is her favorite park), and that walk is PRICELESS. In both directions. Also, I don't think there is a bad view in the house at BLT.

Additionally, the main pool at GF is right next to VGF -- so it's really nice if pool time is a big deal for your family.

We own at VGF and love it. Last stay we ended up on the ground floor near the door that is practically right next to the pool. Perfect location. I actually love the VGF location because it feels a little more like a boutique hotel. It's a bit of a hike to the buses, though.

Did not vote Poly because I don't think you need home resort priority ALL the time there, and also there is no 1BR option. While we also stay in studios (there are 4 of us), it is quite luxurious to stay in a 1BR. And BLT 1BR are (like Kidani) great with the extra bath.

Did not vote for CCV because of the studio issue, and also because main choices are boat or bus. Some boats to MK from CCV will allow you to wheel a stroller aboard, but some may not. Folding strollers is a big pain, imo. But I do love CCV/WL as a resort over the holidays.
