Will I Fit Rip Ride Rockit?

Top of the Day! I’ve been researching people’s body sizes and their experiences at the Universal Parks, but haven’t found anyone quite my size. I was terribly embarrassed last year when I had to get off of both Forbidden Journey & Dr Doom because I could not fit the restraints, leaving my wife & kids to ride without me. I didn’t even attempt RRR - my kids were super excited about this ride & wanted me to ride this with them, so again I felt like I let them down.

I’m 5’10” tall and I weighed around 300 lbs last year. I’ve been working on my health since then (a lot of ups & downs) but have found a niche in the whole food plant based diet. I’m down to 250lbs and have 4 weeks still before we go. I’m hoping to be down another 5-10 lbs by then. My pants size has gone from a tight 46 to a loose 42, hopefully in a 40 before we leave. I carry my extra weight right in my belly, so I’m still nervous despite the weight loss. Anybody gone recently that could quell my anxiety a bit?

You'll have to try a test seat, however I'm thinking it's possible you might be able to get on. It's been a couple of years, but I had more weight I believe last time I went onto RRR and I do not even think I went into a modified seat (did the SR line). However, it was quite an uncomfortable squeeze though, but I said I was fine. I never felt discomfort before on another ride. You're also taller than me (I'm 5' 3") so it would distribute differently and more since you're taller.

We rode last week. I'm 5'6 and 220lb and I found the restraint VERY uncomfortable. It's not a standard restraint, it pulls round your stomach (half moon shape) and it was very tight and uncomfortable. Hurt my ribs actually so only went on once. Good luck - great ride but very painful.

Your weight isn’t as important as to how your body is shaped.

Try the test seats of which there are two, one is designed for larger folks so make sure you do both if one doesn’t give you the green light you need. It can feel snug, but I like that on that ride, especially if you’re on the front.

Good luck, it’s a fabulous ride.

I am 6’ and 260 pounds, many don’t believe my weight, haha, I wear a size 40 waist, I’ve never had issues on RRR. I am a bit broad shouldered I’ve been told.....lol. Try the test seat to give you an idea. Don’t be embarrassed either, many people don’t understand how hard it is to keep a lovely figure like ours...lol!!!

We fly to Florida tomorrow. Christmas & New Years and a wedding in there as well made keeping the weight off a bit harder than I wanted, but I’m down to 245lbs but have made some “non-scale” gains as well. I’ll post updates after our days in the parks. Our first day in the parks will be Thursday 1/16/2020.

I know there are probably people out there like me who are stressing about fitting on rides with their families. I’ve found it extremely helpful when people post not just their weight, but also their physical measurements, so I’ll give all of those as well. Wish me luck! Fingers crossed!

Have an amazing time.

I'm 6'4" 300 lbs. with a 44 waist and I fit, although it wasn't comfortable.

I don't think it's comfortable for anyone though. Super rough ride.

It's worth noting that you can fit and be safely restrained by the restraints don't visually close all the way and complete the circle. Kind of unnerving.

Day 1 update:

Today was pretty outstanding. Weather was fantastic and the wait times were very short. But here’s a breakdown as promised:

I’m 5’ 10.5” tall
I weighed in around 246lbs today
Waist 44” (I measured where my pants wrap around me under my belly)
Belly 50” (I measured around the biggest part of my stomach)
Chest 46”

Forbidden Journey - This was our first ride and my first mental hurdle as last year I was asked to step off. My hands got sweaty as we approached the test seat before the ride. They didn’t even ask me to try it! I fit pretty easily in the outside seat, no problem. Stress reduced a bit.

Hagrid - Tight fit on the bike, but no issues. They did ask me to try the test seat as we approached the onboarding but I got the green light. I did not try the sidecar. Fun ride! Stress reduced again.

Spiderman - Zero issues. My son loves this ride. In years past the lap bar that comes down would squeeze my midsection pretty good, but no issues today

Dr Doom - I was not able to ride this at all last year. I tried to, but I wasn’t aware that they changed the seat restraints (I believe it used to have belts like Hulk). They asked me to get off when I couldn’t pull the restraint down far enough and my 10 year old daughter rode it alone. I was not happy with myself. This year, different story. Rode it with my now 11 year old daughter and 7 year old son. Love this ride and I love that it’s back on the docket!

Hulk - I asked for the bigger modified seat and had plenty of room. Not sure if I would have fit the regular seat, but this one was ez pz. This is a rough ride in my opinion, but wow what a blast this one is!

At this point I was feeling pretty good, but we hadn’t gone over to Universal Studios yet... The Hogwarts Express was down so we walked over. It was time to face the Nemesis that is RRR...

Rip Ride Rockit - I’ve always been too big for this ride. My 10yr old daughter wanted me to ride it with her last year and I couldn’t because I was too big. I felt awful but my wife took one for the team and went with her. So I was obviously nervous walking up to the test seats today. I didn’t want to let her down again. There were people sitting down on the curb right next to the test seats having an afternoon snack. I gave the “Row 3” test seat a go. It was Red until I gave it a little extra squeeze and then I saw Green! I had to try. Once we got onto the ride I pulled the restraint around me. It clicked into place but I was pretty skeptical that they’d let the restraint be at that angle (seemed a bit “open”), but they gave us the thumbs up and I listened to the best part of Free Bird for the next 2minutes. I made it! A bit of a rough ride and this ride definitely puts the “family jewels” in a danger zone with those seats, but I was able to get through it. Stress nearly eliminated.

Gringotts - I knew to ask for the back row. This was probably the closest ride for me to not making it on i think. But I made it!

Minions - Disappointing that they removed the 3D aspect of the ride, but it’s another one that my little guys likes. Again this one used to squeeze my belly terribly, but this time was ez pz. The bar did not touch me at all until we started moving.

Simpsons - I usually feel awful on this ride because the bar will only come so far down with my belly in the way but today was much better. Bar came all the way down. I had to “suck it in” a bit to allow that to happen, but it worked and I felt great.

We accomplished quite a bit today. I was very excited to share this story with all of my info. The people who have provided this kind of information in previous posts helped me out tremendously. I’m hoping some of this info will do the same for others and maybe put a few minds at ease. Hit me up with any questions, I’ll be here for the next week.

Raul_Duke.......fabulous news you made all the rides you wanted to, especially glad to hear you got on RRR!!! I can imagine how good you felt being able to go on them all, and I’m sure your family will have been ultra happy too!

Enjoy the rest of your trip.........

@Raul_Duke1981 It's amazing news you were able to do all of that and on top of it all ride RRR which is what you were specifically aiming for! Thanks for the update. Also, for RRR is it totally normal for the gap to be open. I think I've only seen a few people were it closes completely, almost all guests from what I've seen has the bar open a little. It might be part of the design aspect and there is limit obviously to how much of a gap there is.
