You win some you booze some, a HOT August 2017 dining report! complete 1/25*

now I am reading the rest of your reviews, lol, and holy cow do I feel GYPPED by our visit to Narcoossees. it should have been SO GOOD. I'm still sick over my experience there!
Yes, I agree you got majorly gypped there :( I felt horrible when I read your review way back when and I kept saying to myself, "I wish she knew how great it can be!" At some point maybe you'll feel comfortable enough to go back there and when you do, I sincerely hope your meal is 1000x better!

then Friday PPO Garden Grill breakfast and Via Napoli for dinner (I have never done Via Napoli so this is new for me).
Nice first time restaurant choice! It's been a couple years but we love Via Napoli.

4:30 BoG dinner (i have NEVER been to BoG either, so hoping that I actually get to cancel the breakfast because I'd rather my first experience be dinner,
While our dinner there last month wasn't our best, it was our 7th time having dinner there and it's still our favorite meal of the 3. I do hope you enjoy that one!

hen the next morning (monday) I have WCC for breakfast again (it is just the easiest thing with my parents, my dad doesn't travel that well lol)
I've read great reviews of their breakfast and actually was trying to fit it in when we were there last month, because there's a sign advertising it in the elevator and every time we rode the elevator it just looked so good :goodvibes

Then we might have ended up at narcoossees again but it feels like too much of a crap shoot to me.
totally understand. You aren't ready yet lol

yup, a year ago it was a "chili-queso" dip (found the menu and pics to prove it!). Now it is with "chili, queso dip and fresh salsa."
I wouldn't have liked that mix as much either; much better the way they serve it now!

The best milkshakes are ones that are too big to fit in a single glass!
::yes:: :thumbsup2

Oh yay!! I was anxious to see how this held up to your expectations! Looks tasty!
Even better than I thought it would be! I would get it again :)

This is our preferred touring style all the time, but even if it's not yours most of the time it must have felt nice to take a break in such heat!
Definitely worth doing in the summer and I can't see us traveling again during the summer without taking a break most days. Don't know that we'd do it when it's not 800 degrees, and I know we won't do it on our short trips like this Nov. but it made our evenings more relaxed and comfortable.

Nathan did the same thing to me for this coming January. Jeesh!
lol, speaking of your Jan. trip I can't wait to see where you're eating!

I remember you mentioning that he works for Starbucks before, I do too. My DM just got Disney Springs, what a dream!
Cool! It's a good company, isn't it?
When the DS store first opened Steve had the chance to move down there and get that area but I wasn't ready to move. Once Chris graduates though, not a problem!

Oh the days before cable when Andy Griffith reruns were one of the only options.
 Remember those days?? OMG what would kids do if that were still the case?? Can you imagine telling them that after like, 8pm weekdays and all day on weekends, all they can watch besides sports is black and white comedy reruns??

Too funny. At least you got some antics.
We made our own antics making fun of our server :P Not nice, because he was friendly and good as his job, but.............yeah still fun. This guy was cool though!

Glad WCC worked out so well for you all. I was thinking about maybe going over the lodge one day on our trip and doing either WCC or Geyser Point. Which would you pick? We haven't been to the lodge since Apr '16 and its long overdue
This is a difficult one. I think Casey would like WCC for a meal; you guys would like both but I know you would LOVE GP. She'd like the view I'm sure. Oh and it's a travesty you haven't been there in so long, it must be corrected regardless of where you eat! All the changes and additions are so beautiful  I think as long as you like the menu, and I belive you do/will, I have to say go with GP as long as the weather is nice.

Catching up! First of all... did Ricky grow like a foot and a half? Holy tall! They are so darn cute.
 They're married with kids of their own now, you've been gone a loooooong time lol! And thank you :goodvibes

Isn't that a teenage boy thing!? Swear my brothers were the same way.
I guess it is! Pre-teen and teenage boys are gross.

That looks SO good. I mean even the bun looks so good.
This sandwich completely lived up to my expectations and yes, that bun was soft and fresh and delightful

Ah, my beloved. Sounds like the perfect Narcoossee's meal.
I believe it was our best meal of the trip from start to finish; always a great meal at Narcoossee's!

My mom and I are heading down in Nov.
Wait! When? We're doing a quick trip the 4-8th; tell me we're missing you again :faint:

I think she'd really like CG but I selfishly think she'd also really like Narcoossee's for the shrimp pasta and the cheesecake.
No reason not to do both! I really want to try CG again; we've only been once and it was only "eh" for us. But Steve has no desire to go back. I'm sure I'll get him there one day but there's so many other places he always wants to go so it'll probably take us awhile. What really looks good to me is there brunch!

Catching up on your great report! I am once again tempted to do Narcoosee's but I think it'll have to wait until next June. Also seriously considering the Plaza in October if the wait isn't too long. I need that cheesesteak in my life!

Kinda off topic but I totally agree. They're so used to netflix and on demand, what a world to live in! We used to watch many of those popular older sitcoms on Nick at Nite in the late 80s, early 90s. Us kids had no choice, it's what my mother wanted to watch in the evenings. They were certainly old but didn't feel dated at all, I loved so many of them. I remember being a little girl and crying so much when I found out they were moving Green Acres to 9 pm and it was past my bedtime! My dad reassured me I'd like the show replacing it in the time slot, Get Smart. And he was right! There's just something about television from the mid 50s through the mid 70s, so good, kinda wholesome, but not talking down to the audience. That episode about Aunt Bee's pickles is probably one of my favorite episodes of TV of all time.

lol, speaking of your Jan. trip I can't wait to see where you're eating!

I intended to go easy on the ADRs for January...but I'm sure you can guess how long that lasted once I started booking them! lol I think it's a little more balanced than our last trip, but I still booked more than I'd planned for sure.

Hey all, I apologize for the lack of updates. Over the weekend Ricky got hurt real bad in his football game. Wednesday we found out he tore his ACL, will need surgery and will miss this whole basketball season. It's been devastating for Ricky and heartbreaking for me; I actually think I'm taking it harder! Anyway I just haven't been in a very "Disney" mood, but I promise to update asap :) As always thank you for sticking around!

So sorry to hear about your son. Wishing him a speedy recovery!

Poor Ricky! As a basketball player I know how hard ACL tears are to deal with. On the bright side at least it didn't happen during his senior season.

Oh my goodness, I hope he can get over it well, and that y'all feel better soon!

Poor Ricky. That must be really hard for him to miss the sports that he loves so much. I hope he comes back stronger than ever next year.

Oh my goodness, poor Ricky! I can only imagine how heartbreaking and frustrating that must be to be in pain and not be able to do some of the things he loves most. I'll be thinking of you guys, and hoping and praying for a full and speedy recovery!

Oh no ! Poor Ricky. From reading here , I can't even imagine how devastated he is. Hoping he has sucessful surgery and a speedy as possible recovery

Oh, Ariane, I'm so sorry to hear about Ricky. I can only imagine how upsetting it is for you both :sad1: Hoping for a quicker than normal recovery for him.

Take your time, we aren't going anywhere

Catching up on your great report!
:thanks: very nice of you to say and I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Definitely try the Plaza. Also, isn't it a great feeling when you have TWO trips on the books :goodvibes

My dad reassured me I'd like the show replacing it in the time slot, Get Smart. And he was right!
I used to LOVE Get Smart! Funny, Chris and I just watched the somewhat recent movie with Steve Carell, it was pretty good.

Poor Ricky! As a basketball player I know how hard ACL tears are to deal with. On the bright side at least it didn't happen during his senior season.
That's what lots of people have said and I guess it's true, at least he'll have both his Junior and Senior years and those will be on Varsity. We know someone who's daughter just tore her ACL - soccer player, senior. Having the surgery next week, so her school career is over :(

Oh no! That's so awful! Poor kid…we all know how much he loves basketball and to miss the whole season sucks for him. Praying for his speedy recovery :flower3:

Don't worry about us. We will just hang out patiently while Mom duties call. So sorry to hear about Ricky's injury. Poor guy. (And poor Mom!) :grouphug:

Thank you all for the well wishes for Ricky :love:I think I had my last breakdown this morning for awhile and Ricky is taking it pretty good compared to Wednesday when we got the news. His basketball coach reached out to him Wed. night and has been absolutely fantastic, letting him know he's behind him and will be supporting him through his recovery. This has made all the difference in Ricky's frame of mind and has made him feel more confident that missing this season won't result in the end of his high school basketball career, which was his main concern. Of course anything that makes him feel better makes ME feel better, so for now we're both calm! We're seeing another specialist on 10/2 and if we like him, we'll most likely set a surgery date then. I'll keep you guys updated. In the meantime he actually isn't in as much pain as you would think, only needed crutches for 3 days and isn't even wearing his brace.
It just sucks so bad seeing your kids hurting and having to alter their lifestyle, especially when it means being unable to do what they love.

Back to our second full day! Yup, still our second day, just feels like this has gone on longer lol. After WCC we explored the resort a bit, showing it off to the kids. Eventually we had to get ready for our evening park/dinner - Epcot first followed by Cape May Cafe.
After about an hour's travel time we made it from WL to Epcot thanks to Steve's idea of WL boat - monorial #1 - monorail #2 instead of simply WL bus - Epcot, but we're not laying blame anywhere...................by the time we hustled to Soarin' at the tail end of our FP and then made the long hot walk to WS, I needed this:

Pineapple Margarita from La Cava Del Taquila: 100% Agave Tequila Reposado, ginger Liqueur, caramelized pineapple nectar, fresh lime and agave nectar served on the rocks
I couldn't believe the line wasn't long! Only two people in front of me. Anyhoo, the margarita wasn't quite what I expected but it wasn't bad. I thought it would be on the sweet side; not WCC watermelon moonshine sweet, but pineapple sweet. It was kind of half bitter half sweet. Definitely still satisfied me on a hot, sweaty, stifling, muggy August Florida day. The crap around the rim was another story though and I'm not sure if it was nicotine, tobacco, or pencil shreddings but it's nasty. I'll tell you what it's not, and that's sugar or salt! If I'm in the margarita mood I usually go for the Avocado margarita, and that's what I'll go back to next time. However this did what I needed it to do this time :thumbsup2

The boys were thirsty also and were looking forward to a blue raspberry slushie in Morocco, but sadly when we got there we found they no longer have them. Instead we marched on to Japan where I suggested a new treat:

IMG_6632.JPG

Kakigori! Shaved ice with sweet syrup, very similar to a snow cone. You can get it with sweet milk on top but neither boy wanted to try that. Chris has melon and Ricky has cherry and the loved this. I've never thought of this before but for some reason it popped in to my head when the slushie was a bust. I think I scored a couple points with the boys for this until they started whining about the fact that I've been keeping it a secret from them

We had arrived in Epcot with only a little over an hour before our dinner reservation but still got to leisurely stroll through WS towards the IG. By the time we approached the IG it had started to rain lightly and I wasn't feeling good so we jumped on a Friendship boat to the BC. For some reason the heat was seriously affecting me today, more than it had the previous 2 days or on our other August trips. The boat ride was perfect though, we had a breeze since it was rainy and I got to rest.

Soon we were at our destination and ready to chow down at Cape May Cafe! Chris and I had eaten here in November for the first time and enjoyed it, however neither of us eat seafood. Steve and Ricky weren't able to join us since they had to come down a couple days later at the last minute, and since they do like seafood I wanted them to have a chance to try this buffet.

So without further ado I'll bombard you with buffet pics:

Crab legs and clams:

Soup station, Clam Chowder and Tomato Florentine.

Sorry to hear about Ricky's injury. Hope all goes well with his recovery. We haven't been to Cape May yet but looking at the shrimp , ribs and crab legs will have to see if I can grab an ADR next visit.
