Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

When I ordered all my cakes I specifically asked for Winnie and/or friends. They said any character except them... So, I ordered Minnie and Piglet brought it out.

HTH.

I've ordered an anniversary cake, 6" with white chocolate Mickey & Minnie on top. I loved the picture from earlier in this thread. It, like many cakes pictured in this thread, is covered in fondant. My only experience with fondant is when I tried to make it myself for DS's b'day cake one year. I didn't get it thin enough and it was very chewy. Obviously, Disney's pastry chefs are experts at this, but I've still read some comments that it doesn't taste good.

Please give me your opinion -- should I stick with the fondant as pictured with Mickey head stamps around the cake? Or should I opt for buttercream icing? I would think they can't stamp it, but could maybe do some type of icing floral design around the cake? Please help! If I'm going to spend $55 on a cake, I want it to be yummy!

Cake 5a

Cake5b

ordered the mini-castle cake from the GF bakery last week for my family. it was only $25. it's tiny but after a big dinner it was just enough for the 5 of us. plus we were able to hit the MK and do all the rides not feeling over stuffed!

bamagirl,

Is this the cake you are talking about?

I want to order this cake for DH and my anniversary.

If I'm not mistaken, there is buttercream icing underneath the fondant.

When you cut the cake, you can remove the fondant and just eat the buttercream icing.

I think the fondant is for appearance sake.

Although, some people do like the fondant.

I find it to be too sugary myself.

For some reason, the picture didn't show up on my previous post.

The cake I was referring to was on page 1, post #6.

Sorry for the mix-up!!!

That's the same cake, but not topper. The one I've ordered is on page 2, post #16, cake 15a. I hope it's as yummy as it is cute!

bamagirl,

I have a few questions if you don't mind:

What flavor of cake and filling did you order?

Also, how much did it cost all together with the Mickey/Minnie topper and personalization?

Are you having it delivered to someplace else besides GF?

Sorry to bother you, but there have been other posters that have had trouble ordering a cake from GF bakery.

I'd like the cake delivered to O'hana for our dinner there.

Thank you for your time.

I was given the choice of the following:
cake - chocolate or vanilla
filling - chocolate mousse, white chocolate mousse, raspberry mousse, or fresh fruit & custard
accents on the cake - gold or silver

The total for the cake is $55.

I did not contact the GF bakery personally. I am planning a private dinner at the GF (even though I'm staying at the Poly). The lady I'm working with in private dining got a quote from the bakery for me.

I hope this was helpful!

We are having our anniversary lunch at the Coral Reef and I just ordered an 8" chocolate cake with an under the sea theme for $25. I also was able to request the diver with the banner. I'm so excited!

Just wanted to make the point that you should be certain to re-confirm your order before your trip. I didn't and the GF bakery had no record of my order and my mother's 80th birthday dinner at Citricos (chosen just so I could get a cake from the GF bakery) was cakeless. Which was very upsetting after I spent so much time researching and choosing and ordering the perfect cake.

I would really like to order a cake for an upcoming trip, it is hubby & my 9th anniversary. I was thinking that I would like to have a small wedding cake replica, nothing too elaborate or anything. Which bakery would I have to call and is it possible to have this delivered to the room, or would we have to pick it up??

Thanks
Kim

Very interesting, they are allowed to have Pooh characters walking around the park, have a Winnie the Pooh ride, and yet they can't put a Pooh character on a cake? How weird is that? Oh well, maybe if we end up eating at the Crystal Palace Tigger can bring the cake out?
The characters can't bring out the cakes. If you're lucky you can have your waitor/waitress time it so that the cake is brought out when a certain character is at your table, but they can't really guarantee anything because the characters have to make their way around both rooms. We were lucky that Eeyore was at our table when my sister's cake was brought out, but we had to wait like 15-20 minutes for it. That was the character my sister wanted to see the most and we missed him the first time around so we had to wait for him to come back to our table. But I think it all depends on luck if you can have the character at your table when the cake is brought out.

The CMs brought Mickey to our table with our cake at Garden Grill. It wasn't busy at all though and I'm sure that probably has something to do with it. He even spooned a bit of frosting off the cake and made as if to feed it to DH, then he stuck it on the end of DH's nose. It was pretty funny.

Is it just me, or does the mom in the background seem to be thinking "A cake? At Disney? Why I had no IDEA this was possible! Note to self, order cake next time!!!!" :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: She sure seems interested, eh?

Seriously, gorgeous cake and your little man is a cutie too!!! Hope his day was completely magical!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

Grand Floridian will NOT deliver cakes to anywhere, but the rooms at their resort, or their dining venues. They DO NOT allow you to customize cake flavors on 6inch, or 8 inch cakes this was told to me by 3 different people the chef, the private dining lady, I believe her name was linda, and a lady working int he bakery. Also decos start at 25 dollars and up, but I believe the mickey was 40 or so. I alled many different times, on different days, and spoke to different people. What wows me is that out of the different days, and the numerous people I spoke with INCLUDING GF Private dining they offered me NO help, and made it seem like I was making more trouble for them. Even when talking to the chef he was NOT helpfull at all told me extremely generic options on decorating that he could do, and flat out said I could only have chocolate/chocolate, or vanilla/vanill choices, even after I mentioned I was told by some others who have ordered I could pick flavors on 8 inch. I was told NO. I was also told in a pretty harsh manner that the chef has told private dining, and the bakery that he does NOT want anymore pick up orders being taken as they have had issues with people not showing up. I was even told why don't I call my own resort. I had a bad experience with GF even after talking to different cast members working there, and private dining. I would like to give them another try, but even with me saying I wanted something really special to celebrate our honeymoon, and first trip to disneyworld to surprise my DH they offered me NOTHING special they could do, and did not even try when I spoke to the chef.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience in dealing with the GF. However, I've had quite the opposite experience. I've dealt exclusively with Linda in private dining. She has been wonderful in corresponding with me in a prompt and courteous manner. She got me a quote on the cake that I was interested in from the pastry chef. It is 6", and I had the choices of fillings that I mentioned before. She did not give me a break down of how much each part cost, i.e., cake, fondant, and decoration. I was just given the overall price of $55. Now, my private dinner isn't until October, so I do realize that there is a possibility that everything may not turn out as planned. I hope that is not the case, but I do understand that they've dropped the ball sometimes at the GF.

bamagirl and Lostgirlz,

I'd like to thank you both for your advice.

As I understand it, there are bakeries at all the deluxe resorts.

My DH and I will be going to dinner at O'hana at the Poly, so I think I am going to call the Poly bakery and see what they can do for me.

Maybe someone can answer this question for me in the mean time:

Does the bakery at the MK deliver to the restaurants?

I'm thinking about calling them instead of the Poly bakery.

I'd appreciate it if someone can help me.

I'm getting really confused!!!:lmao:

No, not all of them have bakeries. Where we stayed AKL does not have one. That was why I called Grand Floridian, and told them in NO uncertain terms that I wanted something really nice to surprise my DH on our honeymoon, and first trip there. I am not kidding when I say the woman in Private Dining told me why don't I call them instead. I felt I was just treated rudely and it was the worst customer service I had experienced since I NEVER even gave them a buidget, and even asked the chef personally what he could do for me which was basically NOTHING. No MK bakery only delievers inside MK I do believe, but I have heard Poly bakery does do good cakes there. We were dining at Granf Floridian which is why I tried them after hearing rave reviews about them on here, but they were WAY more inconsiderate, and just cold towards me than I was expecting.
