AKL To Close Until Sept 1st

Just read on Mousesavers that the construction noise has been too much for guests to tolerate so they are going to close AKL until Sept 1st. Guests are being offered alternative accomodations in chronological order.

Woah! My reservation is from September 1 - September 9. Looks like I'll be there for the reopening. I wonder what that does for the DVC members who made reservations for July and August.

Interesting. We will be there 12/9 - 12/15. Hope the majority of the construction is settled down by then.

looking at a couple of threads on here, people have already been asked to move to SSR - some have got poly, GF, WL etc as they have refused SSR.

I'm sure they will move everyone to another available resort

DVC villa's were due to open on july 1st. i assume MS will have to move everyone booked in for July & August.

as much as i can see the positive side of this (disney realising there will be a problem before it becomes out of control) i personally wouldn't be happy to switch as AKL is so different to the other resorts - apart from maybe WL ...

Has there been any confirmation from Disney as to whether this report is accurate? They are closing the entire resort? Has Disney ever done that? Maybe it's only a partial closure?

I have a reservation on points for August. I will not be happy to be moved, but I will not be happy at a partially closed resort. Ok, if i get moved to the Poly I will be happy. I am definitely not holding my breath for that.

If this is true, I wonder if complaints about noise and/or other construction-related issues were greater than anticipated. If so, given AKL's historical occupancy level, the fact that the Deluxe resorts will be heading into a value season shortly after 7/4, and requirements regarding point sales, it will be interesting to see if the resort is shuttered and whether that results in an accelerated construction timeline.

Just got off the phone with AKL, the building is NOT totally closing! Jambo is fine and everything to the right is fine also. It is the buildings to the left, Ostrich and ? that are being affected. If you have not heard by now if you have ressies in July and August, you are fine! I assume that the vacation club rooms slated to be open July 1 are all finished. July 1 is tomorrow and no one has said that they have been moved because the building is closing.

They did close CBR when they were renovating the food court. It was also right after 9/11, so there were lots of empty rooms elsewhere. My bet is it was cheaper for them to close the resort completely and consolidate the guests in the empty rooms elsewhere. I wonder is something similiar is happening here.

Starbox, we have a reservation at Jiko on July 24th! It would be so funny if you have a reservation at Jiko that night, too! We're taking a one day side trip away from Vero so we can go to Jiko (our favorite restaurant). We weren't going to hit WDW at all, but oh what we won't do for our beloved Jiko - even leave VB for a day.

We'll be staying at a BWV studio for that one night. I tried to convince DH to stay in a studio at AKV but he was worried about construction noise.

We arrive for our stay at AKV on July 6th, no word of a closing... Is it April 1st again?

We're going in late August...no word from MS that we won't be at AKV as planned.
