New Jersey - Favorite Restaurants?

Reading this thread has made me very hungry!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Panache - Ramsey (French)
Varka - Ramsey (Greek)
Kinchleys - Ramsey (Great bar style thin pizza)
Marcellos - Ridgewood (Italian) their menus are a work of art
Arturo's - Midland Park (Italian)
Manor in West Orange - Great Sunday Brunch
Pompton Queen and Jefferson Diners - Two of my favorites!

So many wonderful restaurants in Jersey, and now I' starving!

Had you ever been in there when it was High Street or Ralph's Tavern?
Well, if so, the bar was taken out and they can set up the room for either table service or buffet. They have a TV and a/v equipment, so if you need to make a speech(?) or show a video you can. We had sports on for awhile (I think) and then I think they put on the Cartoon Network for the kids after awhile b/c they were getting restless (2 3 year old ring bearers!)

I think we had 25-30 people and it seemed like they could fit probably 15 more in there comfortably.

Many favorites have closed over the past few years, but these are some good ones:

Elements of Asia in Lawrenceville
Amici Milano in Chambersburg (Trenton)
Papa's Tomato Pies in Chambersburg (better than DiLorenzos)
Makeda in New Brunswick
Cafe Gallery in Burlington
Lambertville Station
Ship Inn in Milford
and an awesome Greek restaurant in Highland Park...can't remember the name.

I haven't lived in NJ in about 19 years, but...

Victoria Station, Wayne
Rutts Hut, Clifton

Pompton Queen Diner, Pompton Plains (Can someone FedEx me a Queen salad?) I'm in withdrawal! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!

The Village Inn, Pompton Plains
Kermit's Pond, Oakland
The Hoffbrau, Wayne
Gabriel's, Wayne
94th Bomb Group, Fairfield
With Love, Wayne

There were a couple tucked in on back roads that we used to visit occasionally. I wish I remember the names of them! :lovestruc

I love th Pompton Queen. We go there often for dinner on a Friday night. When my Dad was in the hospital last spring, we snuck him in cheese fries with gravy from there.

They just totally re-did the place - it looks GREAT!

REALLY, better than the new one in Robbinsville? We got married at the Manor, so I'm biased to that one. Otherwise with having kids, we stick to the chains. Though my parents still swear by Vic's in Bradley Beach.

The Pompton Queen holds many memories from my younger years. My girlfriends and I used to go to FM Station (no longer exists, it's a parking lot now) and then after closing, around 3 AM, we would end up at Pompton Queen Diner. :cool1:

I grew up in Wayne and I remember going to Victoria Station as a child, it was a real special treat!

Too funny - I grew up there as well!

My Dad and I always went to Libby's in Paterson or to Rutt's Hutt for hot dogs.

I used to eat the V & J's pizza growing up - it's not the same now. Vinnie's is pretty good, though!

There used to be an Italian place at the Wayne Hills Mall that was really good - it's closed YEARS ago. Does anyone remember the name?

Heck, I was there when it was Maggie's! I was wondering how much space it had, but I guess they gained some room with the bar removal. Did they keep the liquor license?

Was FM Station on 23? I remember a bar there (before it turned into a Parking lot) but I remember it as Mother's.

Oh yeah, Maggies, LOL - that was before my 'drinking' time
they did...but they are not utilizing it now. It's a BYO for the party room, like in the dining room, but Pat is still holding it in his back pocket despite (or in spite maybe) of what they are worth in Nutley - I am still bitter that Carl's closed and sold their LL to the Park Diner! :(

Yes it was on 23. At one time it was Mother's and then changed to FM station. One of my girlfriends met her DH there years ago.

that's so funny. When I first graduated from college I commuted to the city from Wayne and one of the places I parked everyday was the Mother's Park and Ride (before it got all nice and spiffy like it is now)!

My in-laws lived around the corner from The Appian Way. We celebrated more events than I can think of there.....

One Mother's Day weekend we were there an in walks Max Weinberg with his mother. My DH was DYING to go over and say hello. I wouldn't let him. Bobby, the maitre d', told us afterwards that Max was surprised that no one knew who he was.....:rotfl2:

Bobby's the nicest guy - isn't he? He treats everyone like long lost family......

I think we've "celebrated" everything there - births, deaths, marriages, sweet sixteens, birthdays - etc.......

My favorite is the chicken franchaise and their garlic bread!

Yeah, I'm old :rotfl2: ! Glad you can BYO if you have a function there. Why in the world would the Park Diner need a liquor license anyway!

Wow, I've never heard of many of these restaurants!

I have been to Willie's and the Green Knoll Grill though. I haven't been to Willie's Tavern in years. That was on a downward track for a while; I'll have to try that again.

My new favorite is The Union Station Grill in Phillipsburg. Phillipsburg and fine dining don't necessarily go hand-in-hand, but this place is very, very good. The head chef/owner Carl will make you whatever you want if it's not busy. I love that. http://www.theunionstationgrill.com/

Hey, thanks for this - IL's live in Bevidere, SIL/BIL live in Stewartsville, and I'm always trying to find places to give them gift certificates, and I know that area isn't exactly knows for great restaurants.:worship:

Papa's does make great tomato pies!

Do you remember some of the old ones that are gone -

Crecco's in the Burg
Old Heidelberg in Hamilton Township
Seafood Shanty in Ewing

It's nice to see someone from my neck of the woods post!

You're most welcome! I hope they enjoy it!

Wow! How I miss alot of the restaurants listed in North Jersey. When I moved out here, it was very hard to find good food. Here are some favorites:

Origin - French/Thai Somerville, NJ
Alfonso's - Italian Somerville
Delliturri's Tuscany Grill - Italian Glen Gardner
The Clinton House - Clinton, NJ
Glen Gardner Inn - Glen Gardner

And I agree with Java, the Fine Diner in Clinton makes some awesome breakfast and lunch specials!
