Swine Flu in WDW!!

I just called and asked about how they will handle changing vacations for this and they are worried people are going to panic now...but they did say if this does start spreading at wdw or orlando that they do not plan to charge people to change or move their trips because they are more worried about guest safety. They said even if you do not have the trip ins. that they will treat it like a hurricane and allow people to change dates to other aval. dates.I go in a month and I will think more about it in 2 weeks to see what is going on then...

Because the symptoms are the same as the regular flu. Because it responds to the same treatment plan as the regular flu. And because you have an equal if not much greater chance of picking up the regular flu at WDW...no, I would not change my plans.

I live in Florida, and my local media are reporting (as of 12:07 PM) that the case of swine flu in Orlando has NOT been confirmed as of yet. Test results are still pending.

No way in heck would I change my plans. There's just as much chance of catching the flu at home as at Disney. Besides, it can't possibly be worse than the norovirus we all caught down there in December. ;)

We caught the Norwalk virus while at WDW in December too. It was horrid.

I see many posters referring to Purell and other antibacterials but is it known whether or not this will do any good?

Amen...and because of all of that, closing the border is a complete waste of time and money.

Agreed - Local Media is reporting that there is NOT a confirmed case YET.

Florida Hospital is DENYING that there is a case of swine flu!

How can they deny it is swine flu when the tests aren't even back?:confused3

At this point, I would not cancel my trip if I had one planned.

I agree with the poster that welcomes getting this flu NOW, instead of later. What a great natural immunization:thumbsup2

No I will not let it change my early June plans.
I always bring anti-bacterial wipes for the in between hand washing. The soap is not what is doing the most killing of germs. It is the rubbing of hands under the warm water. The friction action in other words. That is why I use wipes- the friction and the anti-bacterial properties.
I have received 2 emails from 2 of our corporate Dr's and both say wash or use Purell.
I am also not one to react to a lot of this hype either.

Do anti-bacterial agents normally have any effect on viruses?

If there were confirmed cases in WDW and I had plans to go with my family I would hold off. I would not up the risk of anyone in my household getting it for the sake of my ds. His asthma gets bad enough when he has a common cold, I would not want him to get the flu.

Florida's economy is suffering as it is, don't want to kill what's left.

You think? This strain is not the problem, is not as Mortal as it would get when it mutates and stops responding to any kind of medication that we have.

So, do you really think you couldn’t get infected with the new strain again? I hope you're right.

.

For anyone who is going soon, the best line of defense is to wash your hands frequently and don't touch the handrails if you don't have to. Also, wash your face too during the day. Keep hand sanitizer in your bag.

We don't go until Sept, but I make my kids do this anyway because I don't want them to get sick while we are there. It's worked so far. (knock on wood)

I hope I am right too:rotfl:

Maybe it is a coping mechanism, but thinking this way helps me cope with the mass hysteria;)

If you get the swine flu (current strain) then you will not get it again. However, you will still be able to catch a different strain. There was an outbreak of swine flu in the 70's but those people who got it then would still be able to get this current strain because it is not the same one.
