A Very Lurkyloo Christmas is FINISHED! New 3/16: Last Day of the Trip!

So let's see what I can report... I've been making small tweaks to our ADRs to try and get our 2-person ADRs expanded to 4 people for the meals that Nathan & Jensey will be joining us... And I booked a rental car last week and then re-booked it yesterday for $20 less... And a pal sent me some report that says almost all sunscreens have toxic chemicals and don't actually work so I got all freaked out and ordered organic sunscreen for our trip :scared: :rotfl:

...And I spent most of today twisting my brain into knots trying to figure out how to save the most money on park admission. Boy were we spoiled by those free wedding Annual Passes (plus being Disneyland APs) - I cannot believe how expensive WDW tickets are! And the discounts from the various ticket sellers are so paltry...

I finally figured out that the cheapest way to get 8-day park hopper tickets is to buy 6-day park hopper tickets from Undercover Tourist using Mousesavers' special newsletter-only prices and then, once we're at Disney, pay about $6/ticket to upgrade them to 8-day ticket - b/c for some reason UT gives twice as big a discount on 6 days as on 8 days. :confused3

Anyway - sorry there's nothing too exciting going on so far. I hope to have some mini trip reports for you in the next few weeks, though. We're going to the Walt Disney Family Museum next week and back to Disneyland for my birthday!

....will it be a part of your mini-trip report??popcorn:: That hat is JUST SO YOU:goodvibes.

Anywho -

Looking forward to the skinny from ya on Disney land cuz I leave for my very first trip to DL in a little over 100 days:woohoo:! Even got a pre-trip report going....

T.T.F.N.

HOLY CRAP! We'll be reading your TR before we know it!!! :worship: This last month will go by so fast!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

I am SO looking forward to your trip report, Carrie! We had to make the unfortunate and difficult decision to cancel our trip (planned for the exact same time you are going). I have to admit, I am kinda sad about not being there this year. We've gone every year, either in November or December, for the last 6 and missing this year is harder for me than I thought it would be. BUT, I know I have your trip report to look forward to and I know it will help with my No Disney This Year Depression!

I hope that you and Patrick have the BEST trip and get to indulge in all the wonderful DisneyWorld at Christmastime fun and festivities. Oh, and I can't wait to hear your report on the Dis event at Toy Story Mania (may you score the highest!) and the D23 events too. :thumbsup2

How have you been doing with rearranging ADRs for 4 instead of 2? I rebooked our Cali Grill reservation since we'll be doing MVMCP on 12/15 and was only able to get a 9:20pm on our other MK night. I've been trying to get an earlier time, but so far no luck.

So far, so good. Cali Grill is giving me fits too, though. I managed to get an ADR for 5 at the time I want, but so far can't get it down to four. And I'm worried I'll be dinged the 20 bucks for our no-show fifth guest.... :sad2:

March 2010...I'm in planning mode, or better yet, gather all the information I can mode

I know what you mean about tickets. You get everything gathered at a good price then it comes to tickets and it's just so difficult to get a decent discount!

Totally! I guess Disney can take a hit on hotel rates but not park admission... :confused3

Carrie
Wow time is passing so fast........it will be here before you know it.
Can't wait to hear all about your newest adventures.

Me either! I'm hoping my trip report will write itself.... :rotfl:

I know how you feel about park admission, we're so gonna feel spoiled with our APs. I don't know what your plans are exactly for the night you arrive but we did plan you and Patrick into our DP with the guest count including the Illuminations viewing fee. I emailed my planner to find out what the protocol is since you guys get in so late if you can't get there on time. I do hope you two can make it!

You are so sweet to do that! We will do our dangdest to be at the gate on time!

Are AP's for WDW that much more than getting the whole 6day/8 day MYWPH tix? Just wondering....I think the "make it pay/work" is 9 or 10 days?

Oh yes, I have done all the calculations because I really really want an excuse to buy at least one AP. But I just can't make it work out financially to pay all that extra dough right now while I don't have a job. So I think the 6-day park hopper plus D23 single-day tickets plus adding a day if we need it will have to do...

I would work there. I am looking into getting a job at the Orange County schoolboard. They have been very helpful so far.

That's great! Good luck on your new adventure!

WOOHOO only 1 more month!!! Good luck trying to get your ADR's from 2 to 4. I am still looking for the one I want for 11 :scared1: but I am getting closer to it. Hopefully the final decision will be coming soon.

Well I've been gone so long - I hope you were able to get this ADR in the meantime! :thumbsup2

Time is flying by! Have fun at the Museum! DH & I really enjoyed it. We signed up as members, right away! There was so much to see, we really need to go back! Just remember that there is no photography at all allowed in the museum - so Patrick can't bring his awesome camera (phooey!).

That was the only negative thing I can say about the Walt Disney Family Museum. We actually quizzed a couple staffers about it and got a mixed bag of answers - supposedly everything in the museum is their intellectual property... except for some things, but it's "too hard" to distinguish them so there's a blanket no-photos policy. One of them also said something about how "if people put pictures up online, then no one will need to come to the museum" and I thought "Where has she been for the last 10 years? Most companies would kill for the kind of viral marketing provided on Facebook, Twitter, et al by hardcore Disney fans!"

Also, don't forget to try online for parties of 5 and 6. They won't show availability online if you're looking for a group of 4 and they have tables that fit 5 or 6 (I learned this when I couldn't find availability for my party of 2 in August at Ohana's but in the same search tried for a table of four and there was availability). Many restaurants have larger tables or those big round tables and it's not fair that your group shouldn't be able to go to a restaurant you want to just because you have 1-2 people less than another group. Of course, the restaurant just wants every seat in the place filled (but they didn't even question it when I checked in with just the two of us). Just thought I would suggest this in case you haven't tried :goodvibes.

OK, this makes me feel better. I've often wondered whether the trick of over- or under-stating your ADR is a no-no like, say, pool-hopping or more along the lines of parking at a resort to go to a park. :guilty: The only thing I'm worried about is that a place that has a no-show penalty like California Grill might charge us for the missing guest...

I can't wait to read your review on the WDF Museum. We're thinking about planning a trip up there early next year (can you believe DH2B has lived in CA since he was a kid & has never been to San Francisco?!?!).

Oh! I hope you can go! When things settle down around here, I will try to post a mini trippie of our visit. And finish my D23 Expo report - gulp!

I so wish I could say I'm going in one month!

 I'll be thinking the same thing when you get ready to leave for your next trip!

It's only $6 extra to go from a 6 day to an 8 day ticket? Wow.

Yeah, these new-ish Magic Your Way tickets are crazy! They want to reward you for staying longer and punish you for only spending a few days.

By the way, thanks for the tip about the tickets! :goodvibes I had no idea to work out the numbers like that. We always get our tickets through the mousesavers link with undercovertourist (it says allow something crazy like 2-3 weeks for delivery but I got ours in 4 days if you're planning on having them mailed).

Oh good - I used them too! :goodvibes It seems to be the only way to get any kind of a discount that's more than just a couple of bucks. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with them.

I have been such a slacker with all my subscribed threads but I have caught up! Now I can't wait for your trip so you can come back and start a TR!

I'm totally behind on my subscribed threads too! Sometimes it's nice to catch up on one all at once though. Hey, if you slack long enough, you'll get to read my entire trippie in one go! :lmao:

Hey, Carrie -- because I know you have plans for your Christmas trip, I am just checking to see if you had heard about the Lights of Winter display at Epcot? I just read a thread under "park strategies" that this display has been pulled this year. Disney is citing "obsolete technology" I am going for the first time and I was looking forward to this one! It is matched with the Tree Lighting ceremony -- neither will occur this year. You probably already know, but I didn't see any mention on your PTR the past few posts...:sad2:

Oh man, I started following this on the Disney Parks Blog, and then I just listened to them talk about it on the DIS Unplugged, and I gotta agree. "Obsolete technology"? For Disney? They obviously just wanna save money on electricity this year, but of course they'll never tell us that.

Carrie - :woohoo:
The 1 month mark is always so special. Do you have a countdown calendar?
24 days left for me and the BFF! :yay:

Congrats! My countdown calendar's over on my PassPorter Boards account - I should go check it out and see where I am today! :cutie:

1. I want some cake. really badly.
2. I want to go to Disneyland...at Halloweentime. Those pics were great!
3. I can't wait to read about your trip!! :thumbsup2 (and see some Roots photos...I lurk on their blog all the time! :rolleyes1)

1.You totally need cake.
2.You totally should go to Disneyland at Halloweentime.
3. I totally can't wait for our trip either!

.
Looking forward to the skinny from ya on Disney land cuz I leave for my very first trip to DL in a little over 100 days:woohoo:! Even got a pre-trip report going....

T.T.F.N.

How exciting! I will add it to my list of threads I need to catch up on! :thumbsup2

HOLY CRAP! We'll be reading your TR before we know it!!! This last month will go by so fast!

Tell me about it! I can't believe how long it's been since I updated my PTR - it's practically time to leave!

I am really sorry to hear you had to cancel your trip. I hope that next time you go will be extra-special to make up for it, and I'll do my darndest to write an entertaining report of our trip! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry I've been MIA lately. Some family stuff cropped up that's requiring me to make multiple road trips to my dad's house (450 miles away) on either side of Thanksgiving, but I'm just glad we'll still be able to go to WDW.

I haven't had a chance to do anything else for my trip, but I think we're pretty well set with ADRs, a car rental that I'd love to get for cheaper, and tickets.

I do have one picture to show you - DISer Wazzo sent me this fabulous tote bag, which I've been using as my catch-all for everything trip-related. I may not have time to do any planning right now, but I feel good about being able to drop things in it so I won't forget them.

We'll be at Disneyland next week for my birthday stay at the new Villas at the Grand Californian, plus we're celebrating my Big 3-3 at Club 33 (an idea I stole from A-T-G) and Thanksgiving at Downtown Disney. Originally I'd planned a mini trip report, but I'm thinking I'll be lucky if I have time to post pictures... hmmm...maybe that's something DH can help me with... :scratchin

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And if you live outside the US, have a great Nov. 26! :goodvibes

That's a fun tote - good idea! Have a Happy Thanksgiving andparty: :bday::cake:party: I look forward to seeing how you enjoy VGC!

Carrie I hope all is ok with your dad. :flower3: Have a wonderful time in Disney next week and a very Happy Thanksgiving and Birthday to you!!!

Cute bag!

Hey, Melanie! :wave2: Let me know how you like the Hilton Head resort. We will take our first trip "home" to SSR next year, but we hope to make it to HHI at some point, too.

Not Melanie and boy, am I late to the party, but we LOVE the Hilton Head resort, as well as Hilton Head. The whole island is very well done. Don't forget to get a Salty Dog Cafe t-shirt - it's a must!

Have a great trip!

Wow November has almost been and gone  Hope things are ok with your family and have a very :bday: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Hope you have time for everything, sounds like you have loads going on - I'm just about finished with all our Christmas gifts and have started to get some nice food :thumbsup2 puting the tree up next weekend :santa:

Happy Thanksgiving :goodvibes do they do anything special at DTD?

Did you say Club 33????:scared1::scared1::scared1:
I am so excited to hear all about that....closest I have been is the lobby on the Walk in Walt's footsteps tour.
Have a marvelous birthday Carrie!!!!
You have so much fun stuff coming up & I am happy that I get to live it all with you in your trippies.

I hope everything's okay with your fam.

Club 33 -- that is so cool! Pretty please come back and share pictures with us:flower3:!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope everything's alright Carrie. I'm so jealous that you get to eat at Club 33, what a great birthday! Have a great Thanksgiving and see you in a couple of weeks!

You're doing the 33 @ 33?! Fantastic! I am so excited for you and wish I could be there, too! Let me know what goodies they have there (if there's anything really special, I may have to try to get in there myself).

Can't wait to hear all about your trip (and read the reports when you finish them).

Lastly, lots of love to your Dad! Sending positive thoughts your way. Hope to see you soon!

I LOL'd at the happy November 26 comment. I sometimes forget that Turkey Day is just an American thing. Can't wait to hear about you trips! pixiedust:And some pixie dust for your Dad.pixiedust:

OK, here are some more pictures from that Disneyland trip! We have a few from subsequent trips, but I gotta get them off DH's camera.

While we were in the park, they announced the addition of an 11:30pm Fantasmic! which is the best one to go to because it has the fewest crowds. And instead of camping out for 2 hours to get a spot, you just waltz right up about 15 minutes before. When we got there, everyone was clustered in the front but way off to the side for some reason, so we just kept going til we got dead center, front section. It was great!

The new dragon was dubbed Murphy because, according to Murphy's Law, everything that could go wrong with her did and she wasn't ready until after the Summer NightTastic promotion bearing her image on billboards all over SoCal was OVER!

She is really cool, but DH was disappointed she's only onstage for like 3 minutes.

I haven't been on in awhile, busy busy you know. I hope all goes well with your dad.
It sounds like you will have an amazing birthday/thanksgiving!
Thanks for the pictures of IASW. When I was little it was my favorite ride and I had to ride it first everytime we went. I am so curious to see what they have added and excited too. I also loved the Fanstasmic pics. I personally like the DL one better then the WDW one. But I LOVE Peter Pan.
I will take your advice and get a picture with any Disney brides we see. I know I would have loved it if it were me.
Still trying to decide on the Dis party.....

I have that same tote! So cute!

Happy Birthday to you Carrie! 33 is a great year :goodvibes!

And best wishes to you and yours for a Happy Thanksgiving!

Debbie

Happy Birthday, Carrie!! :flower3: I hope you two are having a great time at Disneyland! I'm loving the live photo tour on Twitter! Thanks for taking us along with you. (You should be Tour Guide Barbie next Halloween ;) )

I can't wait for to read your review of Club 33. I love the history, the ambiance, and of course the location, but the food has always been very underwhelming to me. While the prices are ridiculous, it's worth it when you break it down in that it includes your meal, plus a park hopper for the day (unless where in your case you're an AP holder, so you really are just paying for your meal. LOL)

Happy Thanksgiving to you & Patrick! I hope the crowds aren't too brutal today.
