Biggest Loser 8 Fall Challenge -- for losers and maintainers!

I was just writing out cards and still have a number to do. Went grocery shopping this afternoon with ds1. Ds's are supposed to help me bake tomorrow afternoon. I still have some mittens and scarves to put finishing touches on them and gift cards to buy at the bank but I wanted to get my paycheck until I do that.

Then to top it off dh is going to kill me. We both had yesterday off because of snow. He decided to paint the downstair bathroom. He found a half of gallon of the pink we used last time. I ddin't mind the pink since he wasn't going to change the border. Throw on top of this I had to take ds2 for his shots (6 of them). The appointment took over 2 hours. The RN talked him about the possible diseases and some precautions to take. Then he started to get his shots. He got through 4 of them. When the 4th one went in he said "That one hurt" and the next thing we know his eyes are rolling back. He fainted. He came to right away and got through the rest of the shots but they wanted him to sit for a while to make sure that he was okay. By the time we got back to the car he was asking me for lunch since he was hungry.

We got home dh is painting and we start to work on ds's visa application. Everytime we turned around he needed something else from someone else. So I was getting frustrated that we couldnt get this done and it was just sit around and wait. Then dh comes out of the bathroom and tells me that when he pulled off the painters tape from the border the border ripped. There is no getting around it. we now need to replace the border with 3 days before Christmas. Luckily we are not having people over until the 26th. He came home today with 4 samples and by dinner we had decided on 1. If it is in stock tomorrow he will pick it up. We are usually home pretty early from Christmas at dh's parents so he can do some work on it then and then on Sat morning.

Have a nice evening. I too am trying to enjoy the season and I think I will as soon as I get out of school tomorrow at noon.

Wow.... lots of stuff going on with you right now! Glad to hear that DS is doing okay after the fainting spell. Maybe he was just hungry??

Why do the house projects always go awry when we are limited with our time? Thankfully it sounds like you've got it worked out.

The kids and I took last night off from all of our scheduled activities and went to see the new Christmas Carol movie. (It was SO nice to relax and enjoy the time together and to get home at a reasonable time!!) They both liked it more than they thought they would. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It was okay, but nothing special. But I did okay with the food, which is a challenge for me. I brought in a bag of micro light popcorn and mixed it with several handfuls of movie popcorn... so I got the taste of the "good" popcorn without all of the calories. We shared a smaller package of Twizzlers than normal, so I only had 3 or 4, and I had one mini bag (like Halloween size) of peanut butter M&Ms. I had a few more packets with me, but I didn't eat them. And I drank an entire liter of seltzer. Overall that was a huge victory for me.... I love movie popcorn and candy!!

I got a new WATP VHS tape at the Goodwill last night. They had a set of three VHS tapes plus the weighted balls for $5.99.... all still in their shipping box. Looks like someone bought the set and then never used it. I already have the first two walks on DVD, but I didn't have the third one (3 mile walk) or the weighted balls (I have been using 3 lb. hand weights when I do the WATP workouts). The 3 mi workout was a great this morning. So nice to have something new to do.

I was supposed to do my 5K run today, but I somehow hurt my foot yesterday, so I thought I would be better off skipping the running. I think it is just kind of a bruise injury from wearing worn-out sneakers. I wore an old pair to the grocery store yesterday and by the time I got home I had a great deal of pain on the outside edge of my right foot (bony pain). It persisted even after I changed my shoes and it is a bit better today, but still there. I was thinking of icing it last night, but I was too cold!! I'll play it by ear tomorrow to see if I need to take another day off from the run.

Well... the downstairs bathroom got cleaned today, so at least there is ONE clean bathroom for my parents to use!! :rotfl: I will do DD's bathroom when I get off the computer. They usually use hers while they are here... and of course, hers is usually the most ICKY one in the house.... so lots of good aerobic exercise as I scrub!!

Downstairs of the house looks good.... cleaned and vacuumed and dusted and such. Laundry and dishes are still caught up!! But my room and the kids rooms and the upstairs bathrooms are still a disaster, so I am going to run and get to them.

Congratulations to ALL of our big losers, and to ALL OF US for sticking with this challenge, even when life got in the way! .........................P

Congratulations to everyone!! Even though I lost my way this past month, I didn't really gain anything from when I started in September, even though I'm higher than when I went to Disney and before I went to Vegas. Hard to believe it was my shorter trip to Vegas that I gained more from. Looking forward to 2010 to lose and get to where I want to be once and for all.

50sjayne - What is kosher salt crusting?

For roasts-- you just mix kosher salt with water to form a thick paste and pat it on the roast. It makes a sort of hard shell when done right. As this roast was frantically trying to knock me off though the last 3 days, when I got home from work (husband had to put it in) half of it (the crusting) had fallen off and of course my meat thermometer didn't work. I was letting the roast sit on the counter wehn it was done and of course husband came in and had at it, cutting it too soon and he didn't brush off the crusting so it was really salty ugh. It was also too salty because I let the salt sit on on it overnight and you're s'posed to put it on right before you bake it but I had to work till 5:30 every day this week so made the best of it. Yeah it was too rare also. Stupid meat thermometer. I have never had a good one.

You had snow!
I'm jealous of that. You look skinny in that picture too.

Wrapped presents last night. Well-- had gift bags and Used them. Used lots of tissue paper, had kind of fun with that. Stopped at 10 pm and will finish the rest tonight, mostly done though. Got some kind of recognition for being the best meat dept. and butcher block in our division which is pretty big really --3-4 states I think. I watch Fantasia every year when I wrap presents. This year I watched Fantasia 2000 also since my husband got me both on dvd for xmas last year. Forgot how Roy Disney does the forward on Fantasia 2000. Still waiting for Guy's Disney xmas special to come on again...wish they'd put it on on demand. I know they will eventually.

Gotta love gift bags!! I used a few this year. Some years I use more than others. But I had rolls and rolls and rolls of wrapping that I wanted to use up, so I concentrated on that. Still have tons left over. I will literally not need to buy wrap for at least two more years (unless I start buying everyone really large gifts!). When the kids were little, I bought new "Santa" paper every year and then hid the leftovers (so as not to spoil the secret). Well.. now they are older and I have started to use up all of the leftovers! Plus I LOVE wrapping paper and usually can't resist buying a few new rolls. But I resisted this year and I will continue to resist until I have used up EVERYTHING I have here! And I'm a bow saver, so I have plenty of those. I will probably just grab a pack or two of tags at the after-holiday sales and I will be all set for next year!

I have Guy's DL Christmas special on my DVR. I've watched it twice. I like how he includes his son. And it is nice to see a Christmas special that concentrates on DL instead of WDW.

Well... my folks have arrived. The house was mostly clean when they got here. The bathrooms and main rooms are done. DD's room is done (woohoo!). DS's room is not.... not sure what to do about that. Maybe my Dad can sleep elsewhere? My bathroom got done, but my bedroom did not. I will probably go and at least do the basics right now (vacuum, make the bed, pick up, dust). It will feel nice going into the holidays with a fully cleaned house. We've had lunch (homemade chicken noodle soup) and dinner is in the crockpot. I'm getting the potatoes baked right now for tomorrow night's twice-baked potatoes. So I am feeling less stressed and a bit more organized now.

Hope everyone is doing well.....................P

Thanks for posting the results, Shannon!
We all did a great job!
Congrats to all our losers, our superstars & our biggest loser, Tammy! :woohoo:

Hope everyone is doing well navigating through all the holiday eats.
We flew to my parents' house last night. We'll be baking and decorating cookies today. To help remind myself not to pig out, I am wearing an old pair of jeans that I just fit back into this week. :thumbsup2 The jeans look good and I feel good in them. It's a nice ever-present reminder today of how far I've come in my weight loss. As much as I love Chritmas cookies, I love fitting into these jeans more! I'll still be nibbling on my favorite treats, just not as much.

Last night my DD's were asking about getting their picture together with Santa. I thought it was too late, but it turns out its still happening today, so I decided I'm leaving work early to take them and get it done. My oldest is 8 and I think this is the last year for her believing :sad2: So while she wants the picture, I want to get it done. :goodvibes

Congrats Tammy Alphabet! I'm so excited I finished 2nd overall!

So looking forward to the next challenge and being a coach.

THe next one will be great!:cool1:

:wave2: Hi Melanie!

You had snow!
I'm jealous of that.

I've still got snow and its too cold to melt so it'll be sticking around for a while. It was about -20C (-2F) this morning and is only supposed to warm up about 5 degrees over the next few days. Hopefully that means we'll have good roads to drive to my mom's on Christmas Day. If its bad weather we'll be staying home, and DH will be grumbling about missing turkey.

When the kids were little, I bought new "Santa" paper every year and then hid the leftovers (so as not to spoil the secret).

I do that too. This year I realized that the Santa wrap is one that we already had in the main container. So we have the official one hidden and being used, and the other one is sitting in the main container unopened. I know DD's have seen all the wrap in the container, so hopefully if they recognize it, they'll think its funny that Santa used the same kind that we have, but our roll isn't opened yet, so they won't think it came from here.:rolleyes1

Glad you made it safely on your travels. Nice job on the jeans....they will be a nice reminder to stay OP. And good for you for realizing that fitting into those jeans is SO much better than the temporary enjoyment of those cookies.

That is so sweet that your girls still want their picture taken with Santa! We had DD's picture taken when she was about 5 months old... and that was the ONLY time! She wouldn't go NEAR Santa after that, so we never bothered. DS was okay with Santa, but sadly we never bothered with a picture since it was just him.... although I think that DH did buy a picture one year.... but it was unplanned and DS had on holey-knee jeans and unbrushed hair!!

Hopefully the roads will stay clear for your Christmas Day travels. So glad that we don't have to do it this year!!

..........................P

We have snow on the way here - I am so glad we'll just be hunkering down the rest of the week. We had considered travelling, but I think it is a blessing that we are not!

Yesterday's unofficial QOTD of:

Are you going to work out on Christmas?

I am doing speedwork somehow tomorrow and then the long run on Sunday, likely on the treadmill again. Friday is supposed to be a 2 mile run. I think I can handle that!!! It's a crazy thing, but after 11 miles on Sunday, yesterday's 3 mile run was over so quickly!

Congratulations to all of this rounds BIG Losers! There were some truly amazing losses this round! Kudos to everyone who has participated in this round. We lost over 450 pounds as a group, and that is something to be proud of!

Bonus Round QOTD: We are almost at the end of 2009. Do you have one especially fun or fond memory and/or photo from this year?

I'm going to have to think about this one a little myself...

Morning all!! Merry Christmas Eve day!! I did my weigh-in this morning and I am pleased to report I am down 1.2 lb. What a great way to start Christmas Eve day!! That good news will really keep me motivated to eat right today and tomorrow. I'm sure I will gain a bit, but hopefully not more than 2 lb.

Yesterday's unofficial QOTD of:

Are you going to work out on Christmas?

I mentioned this the other day, but didn't get many responses. I was strongly considering trying to get in about 30 minutes on Christmas day, but the logistics were difficult to figure out. And truly... it would be nice to take the day off. So I am going to do a full workout today (90 minutes) and maybe another 90 minute on Saturday, so I can take Christmas day off, guilt free. Who knows, I may end up wanting to get in a quick workout later in the day.....

Bonus Round QOTD: We are almost at the end of 2009. Do you have one especially fun or fond memory and/or photo from this year?

Yup.... it was the ride home after DS's Robotics team won the first place overall Championship award at his regional tournament. DD pulled out her i-pod and connected it to the car stereo and put on Queen's "We are the champions" and we all (the four of us) sang it together at the top of our lungs!! DH and I both coach the team and DD is the team's unofficial big sister and cheerleader, so it was a victory for ALL of us. It was such a wonderful family moment!

Of course, I could come up with many more good memories.... DD and I met the crew from "Ace of Cakes" on our trip to Baltimore.... DS and I took our Mother/Son trip to Old Orchard Beach, Maine and rode the rides and walked the beach. DH had a HUGE victory at work and helped his company win back an ENORMOUS contract earlier this year. It was a great year.

My weight loss this year hasn't been huge, but it has been fairly steady. I had a few significant gains during the year (usually in connection to vacations), but overall it has been going in the right direction for most of the year. I really lost my motivation and will power over the Christmas vacation last year and it wasn't until late February that I was actually able to get fully back on track... so that was a HUGE waste of time there... but fortunately I was able to FINALLY get back OP and keep going with the loss. I really thought I would be at goal by the end of the year (heck... I thought I would be there by July actually), but I'm not and I'm okay with that. Slow and steady wins the race, right?? As of this morning I am 5.4 pounds away from goal. And I am ECSTATIC about that.

Well... I finally have time to sit and chat here, and it seems like everyone is gone.

For those in the mid-west who are getting PUMMELLED with snow... stay safe, stay warm.

I'm not sure I will take the time to hop on later, so in case I don't....

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!.................P

Bonus Round QOTD: We are almost at the end of 2009. Do you have one especially fun or fond memory and/or photo from this year?

Merry Christmas Eve to everyone!!!!
2009 has been a rough year for me, but they were plenty of blessings!
My two favorite memories were both in the summer.
The first was my summer trip to Disney World with my cousin and her girls. It was sooooo hot, but we had a blast. My little cousins (6&3) wanted to do the Kim Possible Mission in EPCOT. So we went to the kiosk and got our reporting times. We wondered around Norway and couldn't find the kiosk, it took us 30 min to find it when we did the girls had fallen asleep.:lmao: So, we tried again. This time in United Kingdom. We got our Kimunicators. Thye say i is suppose to take 30 min. Not with a 6 and 3 year old! Like 1 hr and half later we were done. 3o min, yeah right!:rotfl2: My cousin and I still laugh about that adventure!

My second favorite memory was running my first race on 4th of July. I ran with two dear friends and I felt so good afterward.

I wish all of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Molly :goodvibes

We have a good bit of snow today - I am so glad I went out last night before bed and shoveled off the 4" that had already accumulated on the driveway. I didn't do the walkway to the house, and let me tell you, that extra 4" of snow makes a lot more trouble with 4 more inches on top of it! My theory is this: Shovel 4" five times, not 20" one time. :-) I love, love, love that I can shovel the whole wide driveway including snow plow hill and walkway and not be winded at all! It took me an hour and 20 minutes - that snow plow hill is no joke - I was throwing big chunks of snow to the kids who were collecting them to build with.

Bonus Round QOTD: We are almost at the end of 2009. Do you have one especially fun or fond memory and/or photo from this year?

I feel like I've had an amazing year that has included a good amount of fun travel, some fantastic road races and also my overall physical transformation. I'm going to wait until after Marathon Weekend to post my before/after pictures, but I did find a silly one of one of my kids from our trip to Disneyland in September:

We had arrived at the Disneyland Hotel for the DL Half Marathon trip. Because of the time change, we were there around noon and our room was not ready. It was hotter than Hades outside! So we were waiting around in the lobby and all these characters come out to play with whomever was there. In California, apparently the characters are a lot more freewheeling than they are in Florida! My younger son was apparently not that impressed. He just pulled the cover down on the stroller and played his game. I realize the fact that he's old enough to have a game and be underwhelmed by characters might counter-indicate a stroller, but you know how it is in Disney - we were SO glad to have it that weekend! This picture just cracks me up, so I thought I'd share it:

Just a short hello to everyone and a Merry Christmas.

QOYD am I going to work out on Christmas?

Not in the traditional sense. Christmas Eve starts 3 days of non stop for us. My parents today, My dh's parents tomorrow and then friends come the day after Christmas. Christmas Day has been my holiday for dh's family for the last 15 years. I am usually busy cooking and cleaning. But dmil is not in the best of health and we made the decision last year to bring everything to them instead of them coming here. I have been shoping and cooking since Tuesday. I got off at noon yesterday and I didn't stop until 9 last night. I was up at 3 this morning and by 4 was working on things. I am getting ready to drive to my parents house to celebrate with my family and I still have some things to do tonight and very early tomorrow morning.

I will post a picture tomorrow for the bonus question. It is the picture we used in our Christmas letter. I am not at the weight I want to be but you can see dh and I were having fun and that is really what is important.

Have a great night everyone.

Merry Christmas to all of my WISH board friends! Looking forward to seeing you all back on the BL9 thread on January 1. That may be the time when I finally get back to working out. Was only up about 1-2 pounds since Friday with NO working out going on here. Enjoying myself but not going crazy!

Sunday is DH and my 12th anniversary so we are heading to Boston for the night staying in a nice hotel and having a nice dinner out on Sunday and a nice day on Monday wandering around Boston and having lunch together.

Girls are in bed. Hoping DD1 will be asleep by midnight! Got stockings to fill and waiting for :santa: to bring his gifts! Parents get back from church around 1:30 am. Hoping to sleep until 7 at least. Girls have strict rules that they are not to come into our room until 7 at the earliest. They can play with anything that may be sticking out of their stockings until then.

Time to start planning the rest of the night! Elves have it rough!

God Bless Us Everyone!

Good morning and Merry Christmas everyone.

I am just waiting here until the kids come down to open their presents. They should be up soon since they know we have to go to 7:30 mass (I'm the lector) and then we have to finish cooking and get to mil's.

Hope everyone enjoys the day. I will be back either later or tomorrow.

Just hopping on to say Merry Christmas! We had a nice leisurely morning opening gifts. We opened a few and then had breakfast and opened some more and watched a bit of the Disney parade and then opened more. DD indicated how much she liked the fact that we were taking our time instead of rushing through the morning. Nice that she is old enough to appreciate that.

For those familiar with my tree-falling saga of earlier this week.... DD found a replacement ornament on ebay for the 2005 Disney one that broke when the tree fell. She paid for priority shipping and expected it to arrive yesterday, but I guess it will probably be here tomorrow. I was so surprised and happy that she was able to find a replacement. Now it will have double-special meaning.

Merry Christmas!............P

That's wonderful about the ornament. Today went really well so far for us and husband was actually human. I let him put around a bit before I got up. Was happy to cuddle with the kitties. Watched most of the Disney parade. Didn't eat too much at the chrismas eve work spread-- there were a lot of temptations...didn't eat too much of my own cooking for samples either even though the meat cutters kept giving me rib eye to cook. It was extremely busy at work-- never had a busier christmas eve- didn't get off until 5:45 which is unheard of- we usually clear out about 4pm. Scored a few Holiday markdowns though- starbucks gift packs 1/2 off and such. Did great eating at my moms and didn't take home any leftovers with the excuse of snagging a Hickory Farms ham for $1.88 a pound :-)dancer:)

Now I have to go get ready for mom in laws but it looks like safe eating- sort of a buffet style people show up when they want to thing.

I got my oil spritzer! It looks like a really good one too.
Merry Christmas ladies...

Merry Christmas everyone! We actually slept til 7:30 today, it was nice!:thumbsup2 Popped in some cin rolls, had quiche for lunch...yum. Christmas dinner is our new tradition that I thought of answering a question for pjilla ;) - Family Favorites, so DH chose roast beef for the main, dd chose mac and cheese for the side and I chose choc chip cookies for dessert. Roast in the crock pot -super easy for me. lol

DH totally surprised me and got me a bodybugg for Christmas! :woohoo: I'm wearing it now...put in my plan, to lose 85 pounds by Oct/2010 (when my cousins from Scotland come over and we go to WDW) I can eat 1700 cals/day and burn 2700 - I wonder what a regular day burn is? I'm excited!!

QOTD...I had planned on a workout/walk today but time has slipped away. I had to work 2 hours today (boo!!) and we spent some time on the wii. Who knows maybe I still will. :lmao:

Favorite picture/memory of the year...I just can't drag anything out. My mom passed away in April and the joy was sucked out of my life for a while - sorry, not trying to sound melodramatic. I'm just ready for 2010!

Merry Christmas to all of my bl friends!:grouphug: The support, acceptance and friendship from all of you have been great!

To all of my friends who've lost someone close to them...let's remember the good times and love...:littleangel::hug:

Happy Boxing Day to those who celebrate it! And Happy after-holiday sales day to those who celebrate THAT! :lmao:

NOt much time to gab here. I need to help DD finish packing. Her flight leaves this afternoon and she only started packing about 9 pm last night. SHe is definitely NOT her mother's daughter when it comes to things like that! But I'm trying to NOT be my usual, neurotic, overplanning, OCD self about it. After all, it is HER trip and if she winds up in FL without clean underwear or shampoo, I guess that will be her problem! :confused3

I am pleased to say that I am (so far) back on plan. I had an OP breakfast and did 60 minutes of exercise today. I would like to get in another 30 minutes, but I need to get moving, get people fed, and help DD get ready to go... so if I get in another 30, it will be later in the day.

While I didn't eat with reckless abandon Christmas Eve/Day, I certainly did eat my share of goodies.... cookie dough, rice krispie treats, apple crisp... those were the worst of it. I stayed OP all day Christmas Eve, until dinner... and even then I didn't go hog-wild (other than two small glasses of wine). And Christmas Day I had planned and made myself some lighter choices for our meals (egg white crustless quiche, reduced fat cinnamon rolls, thin crust pizza loaded with veggies and a bit of light cheese), so I feel like I did okay, despite the wine, mimosa, and desserts. I will need to stay totally OP for the next few days, because we will be at my Mom's celebrating the holidays with my DB and his family from 12/30 through 1/3 and there will be LOTS of foods that I will have trouble avoiding!

I'm going to go hit the shower and help DD finish up her packing. Hope you all have a great day!......................P

:rotfl: You are right it's her problem - but having said that good luck not helping her!! You are funny. :)

You made some great choices and compromises on your eating and great job starting today with exercise!!!

Did well this christmas. Made a lot of healthier versions of favorites and made a ww pumpkin pie that was delish! Have a great day all!
