Anyone else sick of the Yeti from Everest not being repaired? "Fix the Yeti" campaign

I guess I am the only one who does not think that the Yeti is what makes the ride. I really don't care if the Yeti is working. The going backwards part makes the ride for me and that last a lot longer than the swiping of the Yeti. Plus I can hear the Yeti and see her shadow so the effect is still there.
Why don't they leave her in the swooping position and just light her up at the right moment so it looks like she is trying to get you?

Question...how do we know it's a SHE?? It seems like it would be tough to identify what with all the hair and all. Could it be the angry disposition?

I'm just kidding...please don't kill me!

Truth be known, the yeti is officially considered a HE by Disney and the Imagineers that built him. Not that it matters to the yeti. ;)

Chant with me...

"We're ready for the Yeti, We're ready for the Yeti...":)

And in the immortal words of Roseanne Rosanadana ..... "Never mind ...."

HEY!! I thought it was on there!!! Time to go play with the sig

I tried but it said
"this is not a valid image file"

I do wish to join you campaign, though!

Really? I downloaded it to my desktop, then went to Tiny pics and put it in there. After I played with the spacing on my sig, it's on there (finally).

I truly believe that Disney, who holds themselves to a higher standard, should fix the Yeti that the entire ride is based on.

I really enjoy this ride, but i am willing to miss it once or twice to have it working properly.

Every ride eventually goes down for referbishment so why not repair it then.

A: What is wrong what the Yeti? (What caused it not to move)

B:And why would the entire ride need to be shut down for 2 years for 1 component to be fixed?

I'm feeling stupid right about now... build a new yeti and install it during a re-furb.

The rumor is that the weight of the yeti basically cracked the foundation that it is standing on. The continued movement could cause it to break the foundation completely and have it come tumbling down on the guests. Not a good thing, I'm thinking.

Fault...I would guess the engineers that designed the ride didn't use the proper calculations for stress and weight and came up with a non-working model. Or, I suppose it could have been the contractors didn't reinforce it properly. I doubt anyone will ever admit that it was their error.

Let's not be overly dramatic. It would not take nearly 2 years to fix nor would they have to completely rebuild the ride.

i've seen regular refurb take 3 - 6 months, i'd think a structural issue would be off the hook

bingo! the yeti is so heavy (20,000 pds +) it required it's own foundation. Could be issue with the foundation, hydraulics or even the actuators, disney tends to be mum on this sort of thing;) Im willing to bet if an 'easy fix' it'd have been completed already.

here's a good link in layman's terms jik anybody is interested in mt everest's construction

AKA the "Close Expedition Everest for the rest of 2010 and all of 2011 while they rebuild the entire ride" campaign?

This is what I was thinking. I'd rather have the ride available than down for refurb.

Then again, I'm not going back again for a few years after this year...

I agree that the yeti should be fixed. I understand that the ride would be down for a length of time, however Disney standards are all about perfection and this ride needs overhauled. It is my favorite ride, but I'd be willing to wait it out for it to be fixed. There is such a difference! Also, it probably needs a refurb anyway. Perhaps they could make it a bit smoother. I notice that the trains are not all equally smooth riding. One is smooth, while another is really rough. Why not fix all the problems and make it the fantastic ride it is supposed to be. Also, the Yeti is actually female. According to all the cast members, she is named Betty the Yeti!

I agree, Im willing to sacrifice Everest on my next trip if it means the Yeti will be returned to full glory.

"Regular refurb". That a little vague don't ya think? And yes, a structural issue could indeed be quite serious. But rebuild the whole ride to fix the Yeti's supposedly independent foundation and support structure? That simply does not compute.

They're willing to take TSMM offline for a month to put in some Toy Story 3 stuff. I'd be willing to lose EE on a trip if it meant getting the Yeti back. People say the Yeti isn't a big deal, but Disney isn't known for Audio Staticatronics.

I'm convinced that Disney WILL eventually fix the Yeti. But they are going to wait to combine the work with other refurb operations which could be completed at the same time when they are needed sometime down the road.

:confused3all attractions go down on regular basis for refurbishment, which range anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. It's necessary, along with pool refurb; just wish they'd give longer notice.

i'd be willing to bet it's more of an expensive/logistical issue holding back the repair or it'd have been completed by now. If a foundation problem, not sure how they'd work around the surrounding structure (the actual mountain) without causing more harm . good thing they have smrt Imagineers to figure it out.

As much as it pains me to say it, I would like to see it close down for as long as necessary to get Betty back to where she should be. I've done both versions of the ride and honestly, the swiping arm was just something to behold. So, I say a little pain for a lot of gain. Meaning, shut her down for a bit to get her right.

Count me in for this campaign! A refurb for this ride will be due at some point in the next few years anyway, so I would sooner have it done now and have the ride working to the imagineers full vision :thumbsup2
