Biggest Loser Alumni Holiday Edition: past, present and future participants welcome!

QOTD for Wed., 12/29: Have you ever received a gift that made you wonder something like what is it? or what am I going to do with it? Tell us about it!

First CC I want to say CONGRATS on passing your tests.:woohoo: Im so proud of you!!!!

Second this is a great and funny question. I have enjoyed reading the answers so far. A few years ago a friend gave me 2 red leather boxes about the size of a check box with a fold over flap to close it. I still have not figured out what the heck they are for:lmao:

Bye everybody! I am taking my itouch, so I'll try to check in, but won't be able to do my multi-qotes!!!! Have a great one! Be safe, be healthy, be happy! love to you all!:grouphug:

taryn

Have a safe trip and enjoy yourself taryn. Leave all the worries behind you!!!!!

I am concerned because I have heard that even the main roads are terrible. I can't believe the mess.

Hey dona...how much snow did you end up getting? Sorry the roads are still a mess. I use to love snow when I was a kid but now it just creates more of a hassle when you have to try to get out and go places in it.:lmao:

I had a bad day at work yesterday that made me really, really angry all day long. Today is going to be more of the same. :sad2: And not a thing to do about it except get through it. I am trying to do lots of deep breathing and planning to run off this negative energy this afternoon. But still . . . :headache: Send some pixiedust my way, please! Thanks for being here to listen to me vent! :flower3:

oh geez what a day Lisa...sorry to hear about all the stress. I hope today goes better than you plan. Here is some PD to help you through.:wizard:

I thought with being home I would have more time to post and relax but my kids are keeping me super busy and by the end of the night quite exhausted. It has been fun spending all my time with them and not having to go to work.:cloud9: Today is another PJ day for us.:woohoo: Although currently my boys are dressing up like police officers.:lmao: They have such an imagination...I love it.:lovestruc I am trying to talk my parents into coming down for a little so I can go running the afternoon. I still havent been doing all that great with eating...just picking at everything. I cant wait until 1/1/11 to start fresh again. I will try to check back later but if not have a great day.

ps. Welcome back Rose! I cant wait to hear about your trip. We missed you!

Taryn--have a fabulous trip!

Lisa--sending happy thoughts your way today! Hang in there!

CC--did I see you passed? Congrats!!!

I have a lot of catching up to do! Where is Taryn with her highlights when I need her?:lmao:

We booked it through the Atlanta airport (from a to d terminal) only to find 5 minutes after we got there that our flight was delayed for 30 minutes. Finally got home last night at midnight. I feel hungover, and I didn't even have a drink!

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm off to get the team threads updated. Thank you Lisa and for everyone else who kept an eye on things for me.:goodvibes

I hope everyone is having a good winter break. To everyone with all the snow, could you send some our way? The mountains have plenty, but the rest of Colorado is so dry. We have been having to water our plants and trees to keep them alive. It is forecasted to snow tomorrow, hopefully we get some.

Without making too much of an effort, I have lost 2.5 lbs so far during this 2 week break. I am pretty amazed. I was sick for most of the first week and returned to the gym yesterday for the first time in 2 weeks. I did have a small gain over Christmas, but have already lost the weight and then some. I can't figure out this weight loss thing sometimes, especially the weeks where I get 5 hours of gym time plus eating well and lose nothing or have a gain. Sometimes I think I am eating too little, but if I increase my calories, most of the time I gain.

Rose-I hope you had a fantastic trip. I would love to see WDW at Christmastime someday!

Taryn-Happy Anniversary! Have fun!

CC-Congrats on passing your tests!

LisaH-Sorry you had such a bad day at work. I hope things get better.

Dona-I hope your area gets plowed soon. How frustrating! Here in Colorado, they have had lots of practice at snow removal so we are never stuck for too long. I think it helps compensate for the monster storms we sometimes get. It will make this Christmas memorable.

3 years ago, it snowed quite a bit on Christmas day (around a foot). We were planning on going to my parents' house for dinner (65 miles away). Since the road conditions were pretty bad, we opted to stay home. We spent the entire day playing with the kids and their toys. I didn't have to cook because we had so many leftovers from Christmas Eve dinner, we just ate that. We were all together, and the snow falling outside was beautiful. The whole day was simple and perfect, with none of the stress that often comes with fixing a big dinner. It ended up being a wonderful Christmas.

Hi, everyone! I am dreading my WW weigh in tomorrow, especially since I'd done so well the first 3 weeks of the new WW plan. I have been much better the past few days and today, but have not been reassured by what the home scale is showing. I am determined to have a net loss by next week the day we leave for Disney -- UGH!.

Welcome home, Rose!

Am swamped at work but wanted to say hello to everyone and I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone better during the spring challenge. :grouphug:

QOTD Wednesday: Last year MIL gave us 5 snuggies. I can't imagine why a family would need 5 snuggies. It's not like we all sit in the living room wearing snuggies :confused3 She's given me lots of size XL clothing even after I lost 50 lbs and was wearing a small/medium.

People have been wondering how much snow we have at my house. Here are a couple of pictures.

Dh and ds took a car to get new tires. It took them 45 minutes for a 5 minute ride this morning. When they went to pick it up it took them 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot and then another 20 minutes after that.

Ok, I don’t know what key I am hitting, but I have now lost 2 posts! Uggh!
Dona—OMG the snow!!:scared1: I hope there are no problems when it starts melting! How is the knee?

Here’s my day so far: Headache until about 30 minutes ago when I finally broke down and had some caffeine. New car battery installed—my 2007 volvo is now on it’s 3rd battery! Luckily it’s under warranty and luckily we didn’t have it at the airport last night when we got home! They checked and said it wasn’t electrical, just a bad battery. Still debating a trip to the Y, but I am really tired. I actually finally started sleeping in Florida after sleeping so poorly all fall, so I guess I am playing catch up still!

Hope everyone is doing well! Mrs. D—I saw you posted some stuff about running. Still planning on going back and rereading it and replying.

I have given up on catching up on the whole thread. Too much to do to get the spring challenge going! You all need to tell me if I missed anything important!

P—been thinking about you!

QOTD, Monday, December 27: With New Year's right around the corner, do you have a resolution that you'd like to share and if so, does it involve the next BL challenge?

I have 2 immediate goals: The first is to train to run my first half marathon in spring. I'm looking at either May or June. I'll probably repeat after that and do another in the fall with plenty of 5k's in between.

The second is to lose my final 10 pounds by that first Half. I think.
I'm doing WW and have been very successful with it. I've gone from size 16 to size 10. I'm pretty comfortable and like my body. I'm by no means a hard body, but am way more fit than at the beginning of the year!
Anyway, I haven't had an ultimate weight goal just taking it in increments. I don't "feel" like I'm at my final weight. But thinking about being almost 130 pounds just sounds too skinny. It would be at the low end of the healthy weight range for me and would make running that much easier (running is still a challenge to get/keep my body going, but I do love it). I'm just not there mentally. Please share your thoughts, experience, advice - I really need to get my head there.

Oh, and I do have one question - I do WW online and weigh myself at home. DH got a new body fat scale for Christmas (it's the only thing he asked for) and it's showing 2 pounds heavier than our old scale. How do I make that transition for my weigh ins? Just bite the bullet and add in the 2 pounds and have it look like a gain even though it's not?

Thanks all!
Here's some thoughts--first very cute running skirt!:goodvibes (Got to start with the important stuff!) As for the weight, a lot of us have adjusted our goals, some up and some down. We have talked a lot--and I am sure we will again about your brain having to catch up to your body and about how to handle comments--especially the you are too skinny comments. My initial goal was 150. That's what I weighed when I got pregnant with my son in my 20s and what I weighed at 30 (for about six months after losing a bunch of weight again). I never thought I would break 150. I went to maintain with a maintain weight of 147 in September and have slowly moved it down. My last maintain weight was 142. Not sure where I will start this challenge. My mind set on the whole thing is, that if I don't lose another pound I am ok with that, but I would love to see the 130s. For me weight is very tied up with emotional baggage, and I have to be careful or I start having ana thoughts. I tend to be a one extreme or another person--but I am learning that it is all a process, and I have learned to be patient and thoughtful about my health. Here's the thing, I know losing more weight will help my running--but will I ever know if I am at my final weight? Not sure. I think you are on the right track with just seeing how things go, and with having a concrete reason for wanting to go a little lower--better for your running!

As for the running the half--I ran my first half in September--and I ran the whole thing--didn't walk at all. It was a stubborn thing on my part. Since then I have been playing with intervals. Mike and I ran a minute every mile during the W&D. If nothing else I am a huge advocate of walkiing the water breaks, if for no other reason than to make sure you are hydrating enough. I think the big thing is to be open to try different things--run/walk intervals, etc. There are a lot of runners on this thread so you will get lots of support! I struggle with winter running--It's so hard for me. We trained in heat all summer, and I will take that over the cold anyday of the week! I just see it as a necessary evil--and I am really glad I have a race scheduled--because it is a HUGE motivator!

As for the scale--I don't know what WW will do? Can they just adjust all your weights up 2 pounds?

pjdlla,
Funny how kids are. Mine asks for help cleaning up her room then I go and she plays with everything she picks up and I am the one "cleaning". So glad I don't have to deal with snow shoveling or snowblowing but I do miss the fun aspects of it.

CC,
Congrats on passing the tests. Yeah its reassuring to have an idea what will happen next on workout dvds. I'm still sore from yesterday but may try some yoga tonight. Maybe the 15minute workout on Bob's dvd.

Taryn,
Enjoy your evening. Happy Anniversary.

MrsD,
Nice to get new fitness stuff especially workout clothing. I was looking but couldn't find much in my size at Target. One shirt was sleeveless would be okay for indoor but I chose new videos and hand weights instead. Funny how fathers don't seem to have a care to run out and spend that kind of money but mothers always think about other areas to put the money. You do DESERVE fitness wear. ;)

Dona, WOW that is a lot of snow.

Rose,
Here batteries only last a year or so no matter the car. So 3 on an 07 doesn't sound so bad to me.

Well I caught up a few pages at least. Maybe more later. I have to throw my laundry in the dryer. Need clean clothes desperately for tomorrow after workout. We have a time of use plan which means I run big appliances(except stove its propane) only in the off peak hours when possible to save money since the energy use is cheaper at those times. So I only have an hour and it will probably take 40 minutes or so to dry.

Hey!!! We are having a blast! Walked on the pier, played on the playground, went to "jiggly wiggly" for groceries, sandwiches for dinner, walked around the resort for a while. Going to play on the beach tomorrow, go to a magic show, listen to ghost stories(maybe) and go to campfire! Kids are conked out, so we are getting ready to watch TS3 and go to bed early!

Dona-shheeeeeezzzz. At the snow!!!! Be careful!!!
Lisa- hang in there!!
Kathy- hope your day went okay!
Lindsay- enjoy you boys!
Cam- good luck w/ weigh in. When are you going to wdw?
Cc- great Qotd! Gotta think on that one.
Rose- welcome home
Tracey -sweat away girl!
Everyone else---- hang in there! Hugs to you, my memory is short tonight!

I am caught up! And with work slowing down soon, I will be able to stay caught up (hopefully) from now on!

QOTD for Wed., 12/29: Have you ever received a gift that made you wonder something like what is it? or what am I going to do with it? Tell us about it!

This one isn't too bad, but my Inlaws got my DH this weird ball thing called a fushigi. Its a magic gravity ball that you spin around for some type of optical illusion. Its kinda cool, but I don't know what we're gonna do with it.

Growing up my Grandmother gave the worst gifts! We used to joke that her upstairs was a department store cause she just bought things and kept them up there until she thought someone could use it. She would give clothes that were completely out of style or the wrong size. She once gave my brother a jacket that not only didn't fit, it was my uncle's from years earlier! Its a great memory now.

My DH got me the Dance Central game for the Kinect for Christmas so I will have one more game for exercise on those snowed in kinda days. My MIL got me a mickey kitchen timer that I really wanted, but she didn't know I wanted it. That was cool. I also got some perfume, cash! and a $50 gc for WDW.

I tried to go in to Christmas Eve and Day prepared not to over eat too much. I was successful for Eve, but Day was my downfall. I just ate everything in sight! I had even got in a workout early in the am, but I ended up gaining a pound and a half. Sunday was difficult to get back on track, but by Tues I had lost it with out any exercise! Due to time, I will only be able to get to the gym one day this week.

We made our 80% bonus at work, and that means my bonus (after taxes) will be $400. Its $200 more than I expected. So my DH says to me that's perfect, now he can get me for my birthday what he wanted to. An IPAD!!!! We are going to get it tomorrow night!! (I get to get it early!) Apparently, he has been trying to figure out how to afford it for a few days now, and the extra in the bonus made it work. I am so excited!

Boo has her appointment to get fixed on Monday, so hopefully she won't go back into heat again before that. Once was enough! I just don't want to give her up for a night though. So to get as much kitty time as I can, she will be joining me and DH at my mom's on NYE day for some coin wrapping. I can just see how that will go. Stack the quarters, kitty pounces on stacked quarters. Repeat.

I spent some time yesterday getting some new recipes to try out, now that I will have time to cook again. Tonights was awesome! I made a veggie burger on a sandwich thin with sauteed mushrooms and mozzerella cheese. It was my first veggie burger, it was sooo yummy!
I also bought the chocolate lovers special k cereal and had some for desert. Also very good.
This will be a perfect snack the next time we go to the movies. We still want to see Dawn Treader. Tangled was awesome and Tron was ok. The special effects were cool, but the story was awful. My husband really didn't like it. I thought it was worth seeing, but not a 2nd time. The tron version of the castle was really cool though!

Yeah, Taryn! I need to sweat more and eat less! I feel like I'm PMSing early as all I want to do is eat! Need to get rid of that feeling ASAP! I'll probably do mile 1, 2 and 4 tomorrow on the BL Power Walk in the morning and drink lots of water. Hoping to not leave the house much tomorrow. Go to Wellness Center in the early morning and get trash bags and go to the dump around noon if we get all of our cleaning done. Hoping to get rid of a lot of things tomorrow to make room for our new stuff. I have to go to work around 5:30. My first client tomorrow night canceled. I just need to get the kids up in the morning and get them cleaning right away and not let them get comfy on the couch. I'll put music on the Karaoke machine that will hopefully help focus us. I'm getting the laundry done tonight. I'll fold it tonight and then we can put it all away in the morning.

TTFN :tigger:

Dona- holy snow. I hope it all melts soon without any flooding issues. Are you also suppose to be getting warmer weather this weekend. We are getting into the mid to upper 40's the next few days.

Taryn- Im so glad you are having fun. Your plans for tomorrow sound great. Sleep tight.

Tggrrstarr- a new IPAD:banana: how exciting. Glad you got your bonus!!!!!

Sorry to anyone else I missed I am just trying to go off of memory.

We did some shopping tonight. I had a 20$ kohls GC plus 10$ of kohls cash. With that I got 2 new bed pillows, a pair of slippers, a kitchen towel, and a pair of jeans. The jeans were only 13$ regularly 55.:woohoo: I got a size 12 which still were a tad tight in the butt and thighs but it will give me motivation for the next challenge. I have 2 pairs of jeans that I want to be able to fit in comfortably to take to disney with me in feb.

I got my run in today too:banana: I am now off to bed. We are traveling to visit my aunt and grammy tomorrow. They live about 1 1/2 hours away. We will stay there for a little and get back home before dinner. So i might not be on until later.

Take care!

Hi Everyone!

I am supposed to be asleep by now, so this will be very quick. Sorry-very few smilies.

I'm so happy to hear your great news!! Congratulations!

Thanks! Sounds like DH is doing well. Sorry to hear that he is still not so interested in healthy eating.

Crazy, busy here, but I wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS, CC!!!!! :yay:  :woohoo: You worked so hard and studied so diligently - you SOOO deserved to pass all three tests. I am so glad you did!

Thanks! Hope you had a great day! :goodvibes for weigh-in.

Not sure how long you’ve been doing Online, but you can do as Lisa suggested and go back and increase each weigh-in by 2 pounds. It just might take a while. Sorry I don’t have better news. :goodvibes

:cool1::thumbsup2Congratulations CC!!!!:cool1::thumbsup2

Thanks! I love PJ days too! :cool1:

Thanks! Hope you had a magical day too! :goodvibes

Hopefully he won't need anymore surgery and that he gets to eat more regular stuff soon

Hope so too! :thumbsup2 How is DS doing?

I loved the workout and look forward to doing the other 2 miles tomorrow!!!! I was sweating like crazy!!!!

Now I definitely need to buy that DVD! :worship:

CC Congrats!!!!That is a huge accomplishment

Thanks! What do you think of the new WW program? :)

Hi Taryn! Sounds like you are loving your trip! :cool1:

cc congrats on passing your tests.

Thanks! Wow! You have lots of snow! :scared1:

CC- Yay, you!! You're official!!:banana::banana::banana:

Thanks! Your answer to the QOTD has me :rotfl2:

DH's dad used to give him a squirrel feeder every year for Christmas -- we used to wonder how many squirrel feeders a person really needs! :lmao:

Hmm. Okay? to you. Sending PD your way.

Tracey: How is DD doing? :goodvibes

Thanks! And, again, umm? :confused3

CC--did I see you passed? Congrats!!!

Thanks! Your story about your run through the airport reminds me of the day I did that at the airport in Detroit. We had left San Fransisco just after power went out through most of the Northeast/North Midwest. We had no idea. Needless to say the person at the counter thought I was nuts when I asked if we missed our flight. Of course, it didn’t help that I was the only one running, so there was no “we.” :rolleyes1

CC-Congrats on passing your tests!

Thanks! :woohoo: for your loss !

That’s hysterical! :rotfl:

Rose:  on your rough times with your car.

CC,
Congrats on passing the tests. Yeah its reassuring to have an idea what will happen next on workout dvds. I'm still sore from yesterday but may try some yoga tonight. Maybe the 15minute workout on Bob's dvd.

Thanks! How did yoga go? :goodvibes

We made our 80% bonus at work, and that means my bonus (after taxes) will be $400. Its $200 more than I expected. :woohoo: for your bonus and the iPad!

And yet, I needed 2 posts...

I signed up for Weight Watcher's tonight. It is going to take me a while to sort through all the literature. I'm hoping to be all set to start on Saturday. I think this program will be excellent since I will need to be diligent about journeling, looking up points etc. I am 4.6 lbs above the high end of my weight range so my goal is to hit middle of my range. I'm pretty excited and motivated at the moment:thumbsup2

I keep falling behind! So far, I've managed to exercise about every other day - doesn't meet the goal I've set for myself, but its nothing to sneeze at and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Even more fun, my daughter and husband are now doing the wii games regularly too. The whole thing is becoming pretty infectious.

Magazines.com is having a sale today, so I got subscriptions to Everyday Food and Cooking Light (code: holidaymags will take an extra $5 off) - because I need to do way more cooking and less fast food from here on out. I love Tastespotting.com, but there are an awful lot of calorie heavy foods listed there. (holy cow though, its some amazing stuff for a foodie like me!)

All three kids got haircuts yesterday, and my daughter got strips bleached and then we dyed them blue, purple and red at home. That was her reward for getting all As on her report card and it looks really terrific. Ashler's ballet friends are back in town from all over the country, and they got together tonight and caught up with one another.

Keenercam - I keep hearing about these sauces, can you tell me more about them and where you got them from?

Flipflopmom - I'm so jealous of your HHI trip! (Happy Anniversary!!) I am ready for a vacation right now, and can't wait to start using our newly closed-on DVC. We're going to try to do 3 trips over one year, starting in July.

Octoberbride03 - I love your snow pics, and your dog is really cute!

Cclovesdis - Congrats on passing! Hooray!!

Tigger813 - Your game sounds fun, I'll have to look it up. We are huge fans of Set. Its great for all ages and my kids beat the pants off of me all the time.

SettinSail - Sorry you didn't make it to the mountains. Hope the downtime was nice too. I would love to see some of your needlework projects, if you have any pics.

I'm just thrilled that you got to see Ashler in the Nutcracker!

Rose&Mike - Hope you had a great trip!

Donac - My goodness, that's an impressive amount of snow!

tggrrstarr - OMG IPAD!!!! (insert jealous squeeee here)

So many of you are talking about exercise videos - can you all share your favorite ones? (especially for newbies like me, so nothing too punishing)

QOTD, Monday, December 27: With New Year's right around the corner, do you have a resolution that you'd like to share and if so, does it involve the next BL challenge?

My resolutions are:
1. Stay active on the BL threads
2. Lose 10 pounds through exercising 4 days a week & calorie counting
3. Make art regularly and sell it
4. Garden
5. Finish living area renovation
6. Build family website

QOTD for Wed., 12/29: Have you ever received a gift that made you wonder something like what is it? or what am I going to do with it? Tell us about it!

My mom has gotten hooked on buying art from Ebay. She has a ball doing it, and I'm glad that shes so enthusiastic about a subject matter that I'm involved in. That said, there is some really bad art on Ebay and I seem to get a horrendous painting every Yule.

This year was no exception - since we're into wine, I got a muted painting of wine bottle, glass, bread and cheese. The colors were muddy, the perspectives were ALL off, and the rendering wasn't well done or interesting enough to pull the image together. Now I sound like an art snob, but believe me when I tell you that it was really bad bad.

Hi Everyone!

I am way ahead of schedule this morning. I don't know what's been happening, but I'm actually waking up when the alarm goes off. And, I feel well-rested! I can't figure out what I'm doing right. :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great day!

We've already talked about resolutions, so
QOTD for Thursday, 12/30: What is one thing you can do today to make 2011 a great year?

Disclaimer: I am leaving this question up to you as to what it means. It's weight-loss related for me, but it could be anything to you. (Emotionally, physically, etc.)

My resolution is to get to my goal weight. That's less than 2 pounds per week by the end of BL 11, so it's very likely that I'll make it by next Dec. 31st. So, with that in mind, one of the things I am going to do is make sure to pack a lunch that does not need to be refrigerated. To do that, I'm going grocery shopping after work. I would have started today, but work is providing lunch today because someone is retiring.

I got my run in today too:banana: I am now off to bed. We are traveling to visit my aunt and grammy tomorrow. They live about 1 1/2 hours away. We will stay there for a little and get back home before dinner. So i might not be on until later.

:yay: for a run! You ladies are going to rock the princess! :cool1:

Enjoy your visit!

Glad you like it! :)

Cclovesdis[/b] - Congrats on passing! Hooray!!

Thanks! I like the 5-mile WATP (Walk Away the Pounds). I haven't been able to do more than 2 miles consecutively. Each mile takes approx. 12 minutes. Leslie keeps you moving. I have the BL Jumpstart one too. Some of the 10-minute workouts are better than others. I really like the one they call "Cardio with Weights."

I don't know if I've said this or not, but your kids are quite gifted! :cool1:

QOTD One of my goals for 2011 is to get more organized. I have been working in my sewing space this week to put things away and I finally found my table. I have thrown out two bags of garbage and another of paper to go to recycle.

Have a great day everyone.

QOTD for Thursday, 12/30: What is one thing you can do today to make 2011 a great year?
I can drink my water and track my food. If I can make the tracking a priority, I can get this weight moving. I also will no snack at work today, and just eat what I bring.

It's a very quiet day, only 8 patients scheduled but they are spread out through the day, so it will be a long day. We usually have 40-50 average, so it will be nice and we'll fill the free time with cleaning and organizing. I'm going in at 8 so my dis time is limited this am.

Love the snow pics maureen and dona. Dona, you got way more than we got. Wow!!

Lindsay- Whoo hoo on the run!! No running for me now in a week.:scared1:
Trying not to stress. I am going to join a local gym, and the one closest to me had a 30 /month special starting in jan, no joining fee, so that will be perfect for 2 months. Now that christmas is over, the princess will be here before we know it. Yay!!

Taryn- Glad you're able to pop in, and that you're having a nice time.

Deb- good luck with ww. I am sure you will do awesome. I love the looks of the new plan, and plan to follow it faithfully for the new challenge. I can picture you all with your snuggies watching tv. :rotfl: It does get cold in vermont.
