Resort Changers - The Series ~ We still can't make up our minds!

Pas, I'm really glad you mentioned your feelings about YC CL, because I'm still tossing around the idea of changing my YC GV reservation to YC CL. I'd really appreciate hearing more about your experience.

So, as you all know, we love BC and recommend it routinely! It's one of our very favorite resorts and we've enjoyed our CL stays there. We had great BC CL stay in February - BC CL CMs like Neil and Brett made us feel very welcome and they both went above and beyond. We spent a lot of time in the lounge and were entirely comfortable throughout our 7-day visit.

In August, we stayed at BWI CL and BC CL around the same time as CR Fan. It wasn't BC CL's finest hour, and we did not spend as much time in the lounge. (Neil, however, was great as usual!) As I told CR Fan, I think our August experience was unusual.

For our split stay next year, we plan to stay CL at Poly, GF and BWI and non-CL at CR and BC.
The lounge was crowded, and unfortunately we were within earshot of several guest "poking fun" about other guests. DH and I were very uncomfortable. Plus the children's area was the opposite end of the tv, the tv was by a couch which had guests camped out (some in robes at 5pm :scared1:) watching football. Not a family feel IMO. AKL and SL were much more laid back and family friendly...again JMHO. I will add that the CMs were outstanding...I just wasn't happy with the other guests I think.

It's at Paradise Pier too!! I will have one in my room in 24 days!! :yay:
Yep the beachball was PP....my bad...but the lamps and decor are similar :woohoo:

I've been too ashamed to post my possible resort/date changes here because you guys are so busy with all your own resort changes and my "issues" seem trivial. I instead posted my "issues" to the CR thread. At least it was sort of CR related. I've only alluded to my dropping RPC on the GF thread because I don't think anyone there can relate to not "feeling it" for RPC. In fact, can anyone relate to that? I thought not.

So here's what's been going on in WDWKOOK's RC head:

It's the 25th anniversary trip this summer. I booked (and haven't changed -yet) AKL/CL for 3 nights, BWI/CL for 5 nights and RPC Deluxe room for 5 nights. DH said to book/change/alter/amend/modify/revise/adjust anything I want - within reason.

I'm leaning toward changing RPC because of the DVC construction view that we would possibly have. Deluxe room views are only a request. The only other Queen Deluxe view is pool/courtyard, which I don't like. I've also read that the beds aren't so great and if I'm paying a premium for RPC, then I expect a nice lagoon view and a great bed:snooty:. Is that asking too much? And, to be honest, I can't get excited about the GF. We've visited and dined many times, but I've never felt excited about it. Sorry:flower3:

I'm also thinking of changing AKL/CL because the room wouldn't be on the same floor as the lounge, which we prefer and DH has never been keen on AKL. DD and I stayed once, but not CL and we thought that DH would love the AKL food, but we could always just visit there to dine - no need to actually stay wayyyyy out there. Right?

If you're still with me here, thank you.

On top of the RC, I am also contemplating a date change. I know, this is turning into a total revamp. We're booked July 22 - August 4, but I booked it before I booked our 8-night WL spring break. So now I think I should spread the trips out some and change to mid-late August. We used to always go at that time, until last year when we tried late July so that we wouldn't have as much of a storm/rain threat. It worked out really well, but I fear my memory is warped because we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite for 11 nights:worship:. Also, with FD and the BB effective mid-August, we feel like mid August has been getting more and more crowded, but in July there's no BB or FD bookings. But, that has to be because it's so much more crowded since southern schools are still on vacation:confused3

If you're still with me, thank you again.

So here are my big winter of 2012 questions, my friends:

~Should we (I:rolleyes1) get rid of our RPC Deluxe room? And, if so, what should I replace it with? I could extend BWI, but since it's our first stay there, what if we don't like it? Or should I replace RPC with the CR BLV? We love the Tower, but back in 8-10, DD and I spent 8 nights CL and I thought it needed some improvements.

~Should I replace AKL with WL/CL which we know we love? Or should I reduce the 3 resort trip to two resorts?

Have I caused the thread to be closed:confused:
We love you KOOK  I have had 2 great August trips...HOT! but not crowded...mind you we were there during Irene so that might not count...but I agree about spreading the trips out a bit!

Now...RPC, I have a love for the Grand like no other..but even I am not feeling it this time :flower3: I think you should consider giving CR CL another chance...I KNOW WL is great, but you're going in April...So I think, and again JMHO :goodvibes AKL CL to CR CL to BWI CL :cloud9: But I definitely want to know what you decide popcorn::

Will it be edgier and with even more changes? :hyper:

:hyper: changes...of course there will be changes....

Okay... I'm still feeling bitter about the GF CM with the earbuds trying to chase me out of the GF lobby when I was getting pictures. (whole story in Wedding Journal). So I'm a bit turned off. I'm also seeing a lot of "wear and tear" in the room from the wedding boards (everyone stays there). I would be crazy if I paid that much a night to have nicks, broken Mickey lamp, cuts, dings and pen on the wall. With that said--I'm comfy waiting for a GF refurb or the villas. CR is my new love and I feel you should be there  AKL is farrrrrrrrrrrrr really far--like really, really, I cried on the bus at 1am from the MK far because I just wanted my bed. But at the same time--I LOVE LOVE Kidani Village. As for dates... August seems like it would be "less" busy than July. I advise Pas to stay at the GF because I know HRH loves it--but for the rest of us.... I advise we wait this construction out.

I'll PM my OB to you!

Thanks soooooo much!!! I love it!! It goes with my Pin that I got in November!!

KOOK:

1) There is no shame in posting this!

2) If I recall correctly, you've stayed YC CL. If that's right, can you share thoughts? I'm thinking about upgrading from YC GV to YC CL, but not sure.

3) What would you be most excited about? It sounds like it's not GF, CR or AKL, so maybe the BWI/WL split is a good fit. I love BWI and really like WL. Since you know you love WL, so it's something old and something new for you - and two resorts you're really excited about. I think late August is great - hit value season and lower crowds as kids start to go back to school . . . we've started planning late August vacations and really love them. Good luck!

 Had an AMAZING YC-CL stay in May 2010!! Grant you I think part of the magic was because I was really really sick and discouraged to travel by doctors--but the CMs went out of their way to keep throwing pixie dust at us. I loved the offerings in the lounge. We were the first door by the lounge, so we just ate in the room--plus I was kind of anti-social from not feeling well. I love the YC lobby, the closeness to the boat, the smells :) I think it felt more laid back compared to the BC lobby which is bright and loud. If you have any questions just ask :)

Oh no!!! Has pages of multi-quotes and poof!!!

Don't have time to go back so hope I can remember at least half of the posts!

Sheila and ??? Who else wasn't feeling well? Pas? Hope you are both feeling much better.

Linda ~ visiting grand-kids and DL sounds like heaven!! :yay:

Pas ~ I vote for Poly CL TPV all the way!!!:dance3:

I know I forgot sooo many posts, but must get back downstairs for my afternoon with DGD...and I'm already tired...she had a cold making her cranky and I've one making me tired.

Have a great afternoon...it's Wednesday already!!!!:grouphug:
Sorry she is cranky, I can relate...going to try a steamy shower now

Kook, my friend, never be ashamed to come here - you should know better! We love you and any and all changes and/or possible changes. :goodvibes

Totally understand not feeling it for RPC - each time I considered it, I could never bring myself to book...and I love the GF in a different sort of way.;)

So here's what's been going on in WDWKOOK's RC head:

Janet and I were just discussing this very thing last night. My Godson and I used to go every end of July/1st week of August and it was fine. I despise crowds, especially in hot and humid Florida and I have no recollection of terrible crowds. Granted, that was the early 90's and less parks...the last time we went that time was '98 and it was fine.

Way back when, before FD, other than the heat, the last week of August was a favorite time of our family to visit, but now I feat FD has made it crazy busy and I could not deal with massive crowds and heat...sorry to go on...

What about the first 2 weeks of August? FD does not begin until the following week, right? Or you could stay up to the day before FD begins. I don't think you'll find it too bad crowd wise that time of year.

Usually, I'm not a big fan of Tour Guide Mike etc (do not like paying for such info), but there is a free one like his info and might be worth checking the crowds for the last couple of years during the time you want to visit?

If you're still with me, thank you again.

IMO, get ride of RPC deluxe (not sure with what b/c I agree with you about CR needing improvements...refurb time me thinks.;)), definitely include WL CL because you enjoy it so much.

Sorry I am so useless!! :sad2:

What a memory you have - impressive:thumbsup2. Yes, 8-10 DD and I stayed at the Regatta Club when DH was deployed. We were supposed to stay 9 nights, but I missed the CR and after one night, I switched to the Atrium Club.

YC thoughts:

I had booked many months in advance, but we weren't greeted when we checked in at 0930. In fact, it confused me that we drove from AKL and no one told us what to do at the YC and the gate guard was unfriendly and seemed tired. I finally went inside and just stood there and looked lost until someone asked what we needed. I said, "CL check-in, please" and they pointed to regular check-in. Then a woman walked up and said she would escort us to CL. Finally! So a bit of a confusing start. Check-in upstairs went well and at 1000 there was no one in the lounge for breakfast so that was great. Our room request of no connecting door was granted which was great, but they upgraded us from GV and we instead had a view of SAB which I did not want because I like a very quiet location and quiet, it wasn't! This might sound petty, but I also hated that the windows in the hallways were all frosted so you couldn't see out of them. If you looked through the part that wasn't frosted, you could only see the awful roof:mad:. There also isn't really much of a view from the lounge and only a small balcony. I love the WL and CR lounge views where you have windows that look out onto a lake or park.

We did enjoy the food selection at breakfast, especially the hard boiled eggs and the food service area was clean, however, there was no place to put your dirty dishes, so it was a challenge for the lounge staff to keep up with clearing all the tables quickly. Also, the seating area is very small, IMHO. At least compared with WL (and RPC) it is very small.

I appreciated that I asked if they had Sprite Zero and they didn't, but later in my room, a CM left a 12-pack, I thought this was very nice.

We had breakfast the next day at a "normal" hour and the lounge was packed (this was August). I just wasn't very happy at the YC, but it's not entirely the YC's fault. CR was my DH's favorite resort and since he wasn't with us, I guess I missed it more. We only stayed 24 hours at the YC, but I would not book it again. Mostly due to the fact that we like a larger lounge area with more seating and a view. We're trying BWI for the first time this summer and I've heard that it has more seating than YC/BC and the CMs are very friendly. If it's like WL, then we'll love it.

If you're already booked at the YC, I would upgrade if I were you. If you hit the lounge at more off times, I think it would be better.

We love you KOOK  I have had 2 great August trips...HOT! but not crowded...mind you we were there during Irene so that might not count...but I agree about spreading the trips out a bit!

I really like that you think we should give the Atrium Club another chance:hug:. I wrote on the CR thread that if it stinks, we could always go to The Wave for breakfast, which we love or even Contempo. :idea:Should I just book non-CL BLV or is that not very anniversary-ish?

Well if you were to extend your trip into mid August you might have a better chance of seeing me, depending on the dates you will be at the BWI. I will be at the BWI CL from 08/09/12 - 08/23/12 and it won't be like that time in August 2010 when we both stayed Club Level at the Contemporary, then realized on here we had rooms next to each other and didn't know that.

Obviously I want to suggest extending your BWI CL reservation a lot longer, however like I said to you on the CR FAQ Thread I understand not wanting to do that since you never stayed there before. All I can do is post my great experiences staying there, although would it be fair to say my previous CL stays at the BWI are a reason why you reserved it?

Useless? Never:hug:. I've made up my mind to cancel RPC. I think I'm going to cancel AKL, too. I'm leaning toward replacing RPC with Atrium Club and AKL/CL with WL/CL.

Not sure yet what to do with the dates. I'm scared of those ravenous FD crowds, even though I'd have all our ADRs. If I try to go before FD starts on 8-19, then I'd only be moving our arrival date by two weeks, which doesn't seem worth doing. Will I regret going during FD? I felt like every August was getting worse with FD, but maybe it was just my imagination and I shouldn't exclude it from consideration?

That change sounds perfect - really it does!

I'm with you - definitely more crowds with free dining! The 8th to 19th might not be a huge change, but it is still moving it by 2 weeks and some FL schools will be back in session. and I think that would be a good time...after the July crowds, right in the less crowded time before FD begins. I think it is a great time to visit!:goodvibes

Just spoke with Janet...go for it, girl! YOU are the queen of RCers and our leader!!:worship:

Yes, you had a positive influence on my booking BWI:goodvibes. I never really thought about BWI before you stayed there and loved it. And since we both love CR so much, I valued your opinion of BWI. That clown pool always got in the way of my thinking beyond the clown pool. Then, when we took a room tour last summer, DH loved the management, the Epcot view and the room so much that we were sold.

Now that I look back on how much he loved our visit, I think maybe a BWI/WL split might be just perfect!

OMG guys, this is too funny, just now I received my first email from an IPO for our summer trip. It's from AKL and I thought they wouldn't contact me for another couple of weeks since we're not at the 6 month point yet. They are very efficient over there! But alas, I think I might be switching to WL:rolleyes2

Yes I would go with BWI CL over the Atrium Club, so a BWI/WL split stay sounds perfect.

You're right that even two weeks would make a difference in crowd levels, and probably no difference in the weather. I think I will change to August. Thank you so much for clearing this up in my mind for me:hug:

I think that's probably what I'm going to do then: Our favorite MK resort and our potentially favorite Epcot resort. And thanks to you, I know they have a Smith Machine over at the BWI gym!

Thanks for everyone's opinion on this. I'm glad I posted about it:grouphug:

Take me to your leader...

I need a link though:rolleyes1

Yeah, where is our elusive leader?:rolleyes1

Now that does sound nice - BWI CL is one of the few I've actually considered trying, especially a deluxe room (although BWI deluxe rooms do not offer the privacy of WL deluxe, but still fabulous).

And what's nice is that you'd be spending some time at an EPCOT resort and the rest at your beloved WL CL.

Sounds like the best of both worlds to me...and no concern about the condition of CR rooms...which are due for a refurb.:thumbsup2

She has to work tonight, so she should be napping, but was congested and gave that up. Do you suppose she's making a resort change? Speaking of which, will you all excuse me for a moment?:hyper:

Aw, hope she feels better. But we don't have much time...we need a new link.;)

Watching that countdown of yours for some changes...:surfweb:

You're right that even two weeks would make a difference in crowd levels, and probably no difference in the weather. I think I will change to August. Thank you so much for clearing this up in my mind for me:hug:

I think that's probably what I'm going to do then: Our favorite MK resort and our potentially favorite Epcot resort. And thanks to you, I know they have a Smith Machine over at the BWI gym!

Thanks for everyone's opinion on this. I'm glad I posted about it:grouphug:

WDWKOOK, you know I absolutely LOVE the GF but I think you are probably, making the right decision not staying at the RPC during the construction. I can't give an opinion on the other hotels but I have to say we are really enjoying the BC CL.

RCers & Minnie & Nana: Hi there. :goodvibes I just took a quick cursory look at what I've missed (what page is Minnie&Nana's dream :cloud9: vacation?) and I kept logged in hoping I'd have more time today to go back and read everybody's RCs today... but no such luck. I've missed over 15 pages of juicy stuff! Hopefully I can get caught up with you all later... :surfweb:

I'm off tonight and can make a new thread if Sleeping Pas doesn't wake up :rotfl2:

Headed to dinner and we'll see what happens :)

DH and I going to talk "Disney 2012" and burning our gift cards, lol.

You found my hideout, Jungle Cruiser:rotfl:. Thank you for supporting my changing from RPC and :welcome: to the thread:hug:. Is this your first post here? Hope it's not your last.

I just got off the phone with the WDTC and have a brand new rotating ticker - so it's official. Someone will be very happy to get that elusive RPC Deluxe Queen. I hope I can still stop by the GF thread - you guys are great:goodvibes
