Sorry, my trip report focussed solely on character interaction and I know some people are interested in knowing about restaurants etc. So thought I'd add a quick post about where we ate/what for those who are interested!

Friday

Rainforest Café

My regret is that we ate here on Friday night instead of popping into Café Mickey so DD could meet Goofy etc. as we never managed to meet them throughout the weekend. However, she loved the theming of the restaurant and we enjoyed our food.

Hubby and I both chose from the Cha Cha (?) 21.90e menu.
I had the chilli, and hubby had the steak (medium - which was very pink and bloody.) My chilli was okay, nothing fantastic and over-priced for what it was, not enough rice and way too many beans in the chilli. Hubby's steak, fries and sauce, he assures me (I wouldn't touch any steak unless it is burnt LOL) was delicious and it was a very good portion. I had the chocolate pudding desert which was DELICIOUS and hubby had the meringue which was very tasty.

DD had the childrens 12e menu and chose chicken nuggets with fries, followed by chocolate smartie mousse (Nestle is banned in my house, but it is so difficult to avoid in France and hubby isn't as ethical as me!)

The restaurant itself is fab, and our waiter was wonderful, very attentive and wonderful with DD, especially when she tried to say Merci! Next time, if it is another short trip, and purely for characters I would go to Café Mickey instead.

Saturday

Late morning snack - Cable Car Café

We had hot chocolates, donuts and cookies - delicious donuts. Expensive though 13e for 2 hot chocs, 2 donuts and a cookie!

Lunch - Auberge de Cendrillion

Amazing! We arrived at 11:45am for a 12pm booking and were first in the queue, the doors opened bang on 12pm and we were seated (without asking) next to the fireplace. It was really quite quiet, started to fill up around 1pm, I had a wander around the restaurant (chasing after a little girl) and the place to sit is definitely near the fireplace/dancefloor as this is where the Princesses enter. Character interaction was fabulous, and for any little (or big) girl celebrating a birthday this is the place I would recommend. A number of the waiting staff, plus Snow White and the Prince (this would change depending on the characters) walked across the restaurant singing and clapping with DD's cake, then posed for a wonderful photo. The restaurant itself is stunning.

Food
Prince's fruit cocktail - was really very yummy (non-alcoholic though)
Appetizer - cheese chouz style balls - very nice
Starter - Pumpkin soup; duck breast & chutney and smoked salmon with caviar - erm the soup was nice, but luke warm. I didn't try anything - it's just not my type of food, neither did hubby. The bread was nice though! :rotfl:
Main - we both chose the roasted rack of lamb with thyme flowers, vegetable compote and polenta. Was DELICIOUS! Definitely the nicest lamb I have ever had.
Desert - there was a creme brulee type thing, a chocolate case with rasperry and cream filling, and I can't remember what the 3rd thing was - which I didn't like but hubby loved and said it was the nicest pud he'd ever had!

DD had:
Starter - melon "soup" - she didn't like it, hubby did. Salmon paste (I think) with breadsticks and tomatoes with mozzarella. She ate the bread.
Main - roast fillet of salmon with asparagus risotto and carrot candy (filo pastry shaped like a candy sweet, filled with carrot.) She ate the bread and a bit of the filo pastry (despite loving salmon and carrot).
Desert - Cinderella's choc slipper, choc pud with Cinderella choc lolly and an ice cream cone with fruit sorbet. She ate the choc off her birthday cake!

It all looked beautiful and I am sure it was all delicious! Expensive at 64e and 28e for kids, but we saved ALOT by using the premium vouchers and well worth it for the experience! Hubby and I both had a glass of Rose and water and it was only 12e for the drinks!

Children get a souvenir menu, which has a colouring page on the back and a space for autographs - but no colours! No photos, wine etc. anymore but still fabulous!

Supper - McDonalds

Needs no review, it was very quick using the fast pay machines though! We were served in minutes despite the huge queues! Not too expensive either 17e for 2 large McChicken Meals and a happy meal!

Sunday

Lunch - Inventions Themed Sunday Brunch

Wonderful restaurant, we were seated with views of the castle, we were there for 1pm and seated second with a larger family in front of us. Character interaction was very good, and saw a birthday cake being delivered - Rapunzel, Flynn definetely joined in but not sure if Mickey etc. did. Didn't seem to have the impact that the birthday celebration did at Auberge.

Food:
4 buffet sections with starters, seafood, meat/veg/pasta/kids and desert. We don't like seafood so didn't eat that much but what we had was delicious.

Me - Inidividual ceaser salad (was okay), cooked meats followed by pasta, chicken korma (this was gorgeous), Irish Guinness Stew (okay - I've had better, but as this is my FAVOURITE food - it has to be very good!) veg etc. Desert - lemon meringue pie (again okay, my FAVE desert so it has to be good to impress me)

Hubby - I have no idea what he had tbh, apart from pasta and chicken korma, and he had a few deserts.

DD - chicken goujons, mickey shaped potato shapes and pizza. Desert - sweeties and jelly.

I think, if you are going here for the food, it's because you love seafood. We went for the characters, and I assume this theme was Prince and Princesses (due to Valentines Day being a few days away) but there was only 6 characters - Rapunzel, Flynn, Princess Minnie and Prince Mickey and Princes/Knights (whatever they were) Chip & Dale.

Good value, IF you like seafood, at 54e (ish) can't remember off the top of my head. We used premium vouchers, but were only allowed because we were mis-sold them. Usually they won't accept them for Sunday Brunch (although some managers allow you to use them at face value). TBH though - I felt slightly uncomfortable in here, couldn't seem to relax as it is VERY formal!

Didn't have wine etc.

Evening Snack - Casey's

Hotdogs, chicken nuggets and hot choc. Very yummy. Expensive - Hotdogs nearly 6e and CN were a whopping 7.60e.

Hope this helps anyone thinking about where to eat! I do have some photos which I will stick in a flickr album and post the link to tomorrow!

Thanks for the reviews :) I've added them to the individual threads too.

Interesting that Inventions Sunday Brunch seemed to be Prince/Princess themed. I know when they first started the brunch there they were changing the theme around but I thought it had more or less settled as a Lilo and Stitch Hawaiian one which I wanted to do. I'm not so keen on a Princess one so will have to watch the boards closely to see if anyone else dines there nearer the time of our trip.

I think this may have been due to Valentines Day being so close? I had heard that there was often a London themed one - with Mary Poppins etc?

McDonalds Fastpay machines are great, we've used them at the shopping centre by the Eurotunnel in Calais. We got our food before people in the regular queues had even placed their orders.

Being a natural panicker, and the sort of person who instinctively joins the longest/ wrong queue for anything...can you explain a bit more about the fast pay Machines at Mc D's? First I'm gussing they r in english and french? Second, once you have selected and paid, what happens next, do you get a ticket? is there a special counter to collect your food from?

Thanks!

As you go in the door there are machines all around you - you can only pay via card, and they are in english and in French. You just choose what you want on screen, pay via your card, get your receipt and go to the fast pay queue and hand it over and they will give you your food!

All the ones I've seen work as follows

You put your card in the machine, choose what you want via the touch screens (I don't know if they are in various languages as it's all pictures), check in the basket at the your order and add/reduce the quanties, and then you tape your pin code and pay.

You get a receipt that has a number on it.

You take this to a special dedicated counter and they look at your ticket or ask for your number and give you your food :goodvibes

Don't forget to either ask for your receipt back or tear of the order part as that's your card receipt also

You don't get two separate ones so if there's a pb later on it could be useful to have it :)

Thanks Rosebug this is really useful. We are definitely doing cafe mickey as done it before and kids loved it. Was considering inventions but youve confirmed my worries that its not worth the hefty price if you don't like seafood. We did auberge last time for DD birthday and like you say it was perfect would love to do it again but this trip is for DS birthday so no princesses for us! Might try cowboy cookout and need to choose one more .
2 sleeps soooo excited!
Thanks Kellie

Is this one of those where if you use a credit card it's a "chip and pin"? In the US we don't have that, so I doubt I will be able to use this option.

All these type of machines are chip and pin. You'd have to queue normally to the counter and pay there so they can swipe it in the machines and you can then sign :)

Thanks. I'm glad there's at least that option still! I've been hearing how I won't be able to use my card in a lot of places.

Carrie_Cat - I just have to thank you again - you are so helpful with my planning! You're a wealth of knowledge!!! :flower3:

I disagree. I'm a vegetarian & husband is a meat eater who doesn't eat fish, he'll occasionally order calamari but that's it. We ate loads of tasty food starters & mains, we were that stuffed we didn't even look at the legendary desserts. The omelette was the best omelette I have ever tasted. The character interaction was wonderful too. It was very civilised and you got plenty of attention and time. It was my favourite meal of our trip & definitely going back next month.

In fact we did the cowboy cookout tea party the next day & after we'd had earl of sandwich for lunch to keep us going & another one later that night as we were hungry, it would only of *** a fraction more to have done Inventions again . . . . the thought of which really annoyed me :laughing:

I need to work out how to load photo's on here, I have quite a lot do Disneyland Paris Food P0rn :lmao:
