A Girly-Girl's Guide to Planning for WDW. June 2012 PTR! 6/24-DISNEYBOUND/Last Post

I used to have a Turbie Twist... pretty sure I don't have it anymore, but I'll have to get another one! I never thought about it being great for travel. Good tip about not wasting a towel to use on your hair! :thumbsup2

I love the mousekeeping and DME envelopes. We're staying offsite this time so we don't need any :(, but I'm sure your mousekeeper and mousedriver will love them. We always stock up on the ponchos also. We usually get ours from the Dollar Tree.

I am going around the same time, but i am going with my 8 year old, 26 and 34 year old sisters... oh, and our parents. i have been almost a dozen times and i am still getting great tips! I love the drink lids for the pops! i have an 8year old and never thought of it! Oh, I have gained weight the last couple of years (I am 36) and never knew about the bodyglide! i can wear shorts and dresses without issues?!?!?! that will change my life! keep up the great tips since i am preparing with you!

Ladies! I know that looking tan can make you feel like a million bucks. You feel thinner. You feel like your look younger. I get it.

As someone who is perpetually fish-belly white, I can't tan. I go from white, to red, to white again.

HOWEVER, even I like to have a little color. However, it's always a faux glow. ALWAYS. I've been in love with St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse and I will give myself a full self-tan with this stuff before I go.

You can buy it here: http://www.sephora.com/self-tan-bronzing-mousse-P261322

I am not going to give anyone a lecture about skin cancer (we know the risks, etc.) However, a lot of people aren't deterred by the risk of cancer.

So many women spend so much time and money trying to undo the damage they did in their teens, 20s, and 30s when they went out into the sun without sunscreen. They have all the signs of premature aging. Wrinkles, crows feet, marionette lines. All of it. And it's the kind of damage that is PREVENTABLE.

Please, ladies, where sun screen everyday. AND wear sunscreen in Disney World. I plan to everyday. Here's how:

First thing in the morning, I give myself a good spray down with the following:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock SPF 100+
DSCF1239.jpg

This bottle is too large to take into the parks (at least for me. If you are carrying a larger back pack you can fit this!). In order to reapply, I carry a bottle of one of these everyday in the park:

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sun Block SPF 55
DSCF1222.jpg

DSCF1221.jpg

I buy these from CVS. They are small and you can fit one in your park bag.

TIP: I actually set an ALARM on my phone every 2 hours to remind me to reapply. When my phone goes off, I stop in a shady spot and give myself a reapplication on all exposed skin (including the face!).

I have had sunburns on trips (Disney and not) and it's HORRIBLE. It's so important to me to not become burned.

TIP: I have used these before, and I love Neutrogena brand. I would not recommend buying generic for sunscreen. The inactive ingredients can make the product more runny or less able to absorb quickly. Also, I find cheap sunscreen tends to leave white streaks or a "halo" of white around your face or anywhere you apply.

They sell them at any of the normal drug stores (CVS, Walgreens, etc.) I LOVE them. I use one at home and I have one for travel. Mainly because I can paint my toenails, self tan, put on lotion, etc. all with my hair drying AND out of my face!

I love the mousekeeping and DME envelopes. We're staying offsite this time so we don't need any :(, but I'm sure your mousekeeper and mousedriver will love them. We always stock up on the ponchos also. We usually get ours from the Dollar Tree.

Good tip with the Dollar Tree! That (and any dollar store) is a great place to find cheapie Disney trip supplies. Some things I don't recommend going cheap for, but ponchos is one of them! Thanks for the compliments, BTW! Have fun on your trip!!

First of all, have a WONDERFUL time on your trip with the family! What a gift it is to be able to go with your loved ones!

I can take no credit for the drinks lids. I got those from my local AMC movie theater. Those lids are large and sturdy.

And with regards to BodyGlide the answer is YES! Shorts, dresses, and pants, NO CHAFING ISSUES! It's an A-MAZE-ING product. I don't even reapply throughout the day. I take a shower each night at Disney World (It takes me too long to get ready if I did it in the morning). I do make a point of taking a washcloth or tissue and wiping of the "waxy" leftover from the Body Glide, just so I get a fresh start the next day. It's NOT uncomfortable to wear and works!

Thanks for reading! Let's plan together!

I have NEVER paid for manual toothbrushes or travel toothpaste. In my daily life, I use an electric toothbrush. When I travel, I use my (absurd) supply of toothbrushes and travel toothpaste.

I get them FOR FREE from the dentist that I go to every 6 months!

New, Unopened Toothbrushes Received free from the dentist:
DSCF1224.jpg

Some New, Some Used Travel Toothpaste free from the dentist:
DSCF1223.jpg

And I just stockpile them. So for this trip, I am going to open up one of these new toothbrushes and on the end of the trip, I'll probably pitch it when I get home! If not, I might keep it for a trip in the near future (I'm worried about harboring bacteria, etc.!)

TIP: Bad breath comes almost entirely from the TONGUE. Make sure you brush your tongue for at least 10 seconds each time you brush. Especially if you snore (or just breathe through your mouth when you sleep), the acid, etc. from your throat and saliva "coats" your tongue at night. That's why it's SO important to brush your tongue in the morning especially if you're a snorer or breathe through your mouth at night. Also, bad breath can come from dental work (fillings, crowns, etc.) that are not properly cleaned and have trapped bacteria the in the crevices, etc.

I'm kind of a freak for fresh breath and a clean mouth (I'm 27 and never had a cavity).

My last tip: use an at-home teeth whitening kit a week before your Disney Trip. You will have the most sparkling teeth! I have used these and then went to the dentist about a month later. They thought I had them professionally whitened!

This by far the best out there:

3D-White-Whitestrips-Professional-Effects.png

It takes 7 days (once a day) and your teeth will SPARKLE. I have also never experienced any sensitivity with these.

As I continue packing for Disney World this June, I'm really glad that I've been breaking in the shoes I bought for Disney in late March!

We have a Crocs store in the mall next to my house. I went over there in March (a few weeks after I booked my trip), and perused their wares for something good for Disney World.

I finally decided on the Cleo II. Mine look just like this nice professional picture:

Cleo II by Crocs ($29.99)
Women-Petal-Pink-and-Lilac-Cleo-II-_11214_668_ALT140.jpg

You can purchase those here: http://www.crocs.com/crocs-cleo-ii/11214,default,pd.html?cid=62A&q=Cleo

I am SO glad I bought these! First of all, the difference between these, the Cleo II, and the Cleo I is that the Cleo II has two straps for over your toes. You can move the strap in the back to go in front of your heel or behind your heel. I like to keep it behind my heel (I think it keeps the shoe on better).

I have been wearing these EVERY weekend since I bought them in March (even when it was WAY too cold!). I love that they provide better arch support than a traditional flip flop. I also like that they are EXTREMELY lightweight. Also, I have worn these in the rain and my feet do not slip and slide inside of them like normal flip flops do.

I cannot do the socks and sneakers at WDW. It's too dang hot to wear socks! I need my feet to be breezy just like I need my hair to be up and away from my face and neck.

For a backup, I have a pair of these as well:

Patricia by Crocs ($41.99 online, but I got these on clearance at Dick's Sporting Goods)
crocs_patricia.jpg

These have a 2" wedge heel which does not make them ideal for WDW. HOWEVER, they are lightweight and comfy just like my other pair. I have also been breaking these in, and plan to only wear them to Signature Dining meals (they looks very dressy actually!) and if my Cleo II's fail me!

I will also be bringing a pair of cheapie Old Navy flip flops to wear around the resort/pool.

And if all else fails? I come prepared to heal my injured feet:

Moleskin (I got the Molefoam seen here at Walmart) and scissors
DSCF1225.jpg

The scissors are actually from the crafts department. I prefer these to the super small and dull scissors that come in travel kits. You need a sharper edge to cut through Moleskin!

If I feel a hot spot coming or get a blister, I will wrap my toesies in this stuff! (I will also use some Bodyglide for added protection).

What shoes do you wear in the parks? :wave2:

When I go to Disney World (or any travel, really), I like to have beauty and skin care supplies that keep me feeling and looking my best. A lot of the time people will use the in-hotel room supplies or cheap travel supplies. I recommend using products in travel sizes that you like and trust or make your own travel sizes of your favorite products using travel bottles.

Here are some of my favorite travel supplies for the shower and ones I will be packing for June 25! I will also tell you why I love and (it applicable) where to buy it!

(Left) Philosophy Field of Flowers Body Wash, (Right) Philosophy Amazing Grace Body Wash and Shower Poufs
DSCF1226.jpg

Philosophy Body Wash is a 3-in-one product! It is a shower gel, shampoo and bubble bath it works GREAT for all three! If I run out of shampoo, I know I have a backup with this stuff. I also LOVE the scents. I obtained these from kits from QVC and Sephora.

I always bring 2 shower poufs (travel size) when I travel. I prefer to use poufs with shower gels (I don't like wash clothes). I bring two, because sometimes these can unravel (especially the travel ones which tend to be cheaper) or if I just want a fresh, dry one as a backup.

Shampoo/Conditioner Option #1:
Herbal Essances Hello Hydration
DSCF1237.jpg

Shampoo/Conditioner Option #2:
Nexxus Therappe Shampoo & Humectress Conditioner
DSCF1236.jpg

Either of these brands are good. For me, it's important for my hair to stay very hydrated so it does not become frizzy in the humidity. Either of these shampoo/conditioner combos will give you a good foundation for that. You can purchase these at CVS.

First off, I agree. Philosophy body wash is fantastic for traveling.

Also, the frizz thing. I have EXTREMELY curly hair that get frizzy fairly easy. When ever i travel to a more humid area or its just summer I always use keratin shampoo and a oil called "absolute beautifying potion" it's made with rouccou oil and is made by Davines. Its WONDERFUL. It doesn't leave your hair greasy at all and works magic. pixiedust: I'm pretty sure they only sell at salons but I'm sure you could find it online. If you have lots of problems with frizz I deeply recomend it.

Do you ever think about what hairstyle you will wear around the parks of WDW? :scratchin Well I do!

It is a requirement that my hair is put back, away from my neck. My hair is so long and thick, it can make me feel SO HOT when I'm outside it it's not held back. For me, I wear my hair down 99% of the time. However, I wear it up when I will be outside in a hot setting for more than a few hours (AKA: Disney World touring!)

My favorite, go-to up do is the simple, pretty, and easy BUMPED PONYTAIL! I don't use a "bump it" or anything crazy, but I like my ponytail to have a little shape, volume, and style.

The bumped ponytail
142637513168301673_oEaSaDig_b.jpg

When my hair is still wet, I smooth on a dollop of this:

Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum
DSCF1238.jpg

I LOVE this stuff. First of all, it's meant to make your hair seem "skinnier." So obviously it's not good for people with thin hair. But if you have thick hair, it can be hard to straighten, curl, or style because it's so "fat!" This is just a great smoothing serum that makes styling easier.

Then I blowdry my hair. I always shower at night, because it takes quite a long time to dry my hair and just adds too much time to my morning routine (don't want to be late for rope drop!) Also, I like a little "dirt" in my hair when I style. I don't like styling freshly cleaned hair.

To make the bumped ponytail, I follow this fabulous video tutorial from MakeupbyTiffanyD:
http://youtu.be/gA_WduNP_qo
The best part about it? NO TEASING!

Love this look and think it's super cute for Disney World!

Is this it?

I think that this could be a LIFESAVER for ladies with naturally curly/frizzy hair. Oils and serums are wonderful vehicles for longlasting moisture.

I found Davines Oil Absolute Beautifying Potion here at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Davines-absolute-beautifying-potion-135ml/dp/B006TH5DUK

Thanks for the tip! I love Disney-themed beauty talk!

YES! That's it. I figured you could probably find it online. They make shampoos and conditioners also. But I've never tried them.

Hello from a Columbus neighbor! :) Cute trip report!! What school district do you teach in?

I teach at Licking Valley High School. The district is out past Newark, OH. I commute about 40 min to get there. It's right by the huge Longaberger Basket building!

When you're wearing shorts in the hot summer months at Disney and going to the pool, you need smooth skin!!

I usually need two options for shaving my legs and bikini area.

(Left) Venus Razor and Venus Divine refill (Right) Schick Quattro Razor
DSCF1227.jpg

I have an extra Venus Razor with refill packs for travel. I also have this Quattro one for back-up. I DO NOT use disposable razors. For me, they TEAR UP my legs and leave razor burn and cuts like crazy. I know Venus has nice disposable ones, but I find those to be way too expensive.

In order to keep legs smooth after shaving, the following shave creams are fabulous.

(Left) Satin Care (Right) Skintimate - Both in Travel Size
DSCF1234.jpg

I won't use bar soap like many women do. It tries out your skin so badly! However, I do use my Philosophy shower gel if I'm in a pinch (it lathers up so well). However, I always go back to the shave gels.

And for other pesky hairs, I use tweezers and eye brow shapers.

(Left) Eyebrow Shaper (Right) Tweezerman Tweezers
DSCF1249.jpg

First of all, Tweezerman tweezers are BY FAR the best tweezers in the universe. Yes they can be an investment compared to drug store brands, but I have had just this one Tweezerman for years and it still is awesome.

So if you need to shape up your brows or just find a random hair somewhere (yikes) you can pluck it out so easily.

As far as the eyebrow shapers, these are fantastic for the end of your trip (after 5-6 days) and your eyebrows are looking a little freaky. You can do this to get you through the end of your trip before you can get your eyebrows properly done.

I use travel deodorants. As long as it has an anti-antiperspirant I am fine. Here are two I picked up at CVS.

(Left) Secret (Right) Dove
DSCF1232.jpg

I know it seems like I have two of everything, but I am paranoid about going without something. So if I have one in my carryon and one in the my checked luggage I won't go without deodorant. And I will not go without deodorant. Ever!

Another important step is body moisturizer. This is VERY important on my Disney trip because body lotion prolongs your sunless tanner, which I will have my trip.

I have the following varieties ready for my trip:

(Left) Vaseline Total Moisture (Middle) Aveeno Daily Moisture (Right) Philosophy Field of Flowers lotion
DSCF1235.jpg

Any of these are going to work. If you have a brand you love, I recommend just making a travel size of your favorite by putting in some in a travel bottle.

I LOVE your PTR, I am feeling daunted with all of the girly supplies that I will need during my trip. I'm going for the first time during the summer months in the heat of August, glad to have found your thread! I was looking for a self-tanner, I think I'm too shy to go to a tanning salon to get a spray tan, I'll have to try yours from Sephora! Thanks for the recommendation :thumbsup2

It makes me so happy to hear that my PTR has helped you.

There is a video on Sephora's channel (find it here: http://youtu.be/MUq504A0KRU) where a model applies the St. Tropez bronzing foam all over. I found it to be very helpful! Even though the video is kind of weird (the girl is soooo tan already!), I found it very informative.

Waaah! So yesterday I discovered that my FAVORITE skincare line is discontinued! Has that ever happened to you? You have a product you love and a company up and discontinues it? So frustrating!

When I go to Disney, just like in my everyday life, it is very important to remember to wash your face every morning and every night. When you sleep at night, your body recharges it's batteries, and that includes through your pores. So it's important to wash off the "stuff" that's built up as you sleep. At night, it's not only important to wash off any make-up, but you also want to get rid of any SPF that can clog pores.

I always bring multiple cleansing options for multiple purposes.

(LEFT & RIGHT) Philosophy Purity Made Simple (Middle) Clean and Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser
DSCF1233.jpg

Philosophy's Purity Made Simple is THE BEST make-up remover. I use this at night to wash off the day's impurities. It does not sting at all. You can wipe this all over your eyes and no burning. The middle one, Clean and Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser is great for the morning. It unclogs pores and get you ready for the day. This is not an eyemakeup remover since it has acne clearing ingredients.

Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Wipes
DSCF1218.jpg

These are awesome for removing make-up as well. I find even the purity made simple does not remove all the eyemakeup and the wipes just make sure everything is gone! I use a wipe to remove eyeliner and mascara. I use purity made simple to remove everything else.

BTW, what happens when you've cleansed you STILL get oily? Bust out one these:

Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets
DSCF1240.jpg

Bring these with you into the parks. When you feel oily, use one of these. They are wonderful and don't leave any powdery residue.
